My friend got a "Thank You for your contribution" letter from Bush...??
A picture of George and Laura on the front, With his name on the picture (4X5) and a thank you for your contribution message, sent to his address.

But he didn't and wouldn't contribute to Bush.

Anyone else see this?

1. Investigate! Possible campaign finance fraud
Someone might have used your friend's name to get around donor limits.

2. That's exactly what it sounds like.
He should find out exactly what they think your friend donated. Make sure he does it cautiously, though- you don't want to tip off the campaign that you're on to them, because they'll just find a way to cover it up.

15. You can search here
Just type in your friend's name (last name first), enter "Bush" as the recipient, select year(s) and you can see if your friend "contributed."

3. Wow, now wouldn't that be a killer thing?
If all of a sudden we found out that at least half of Bush's $150 million came from rich corporate donors who used regular people's names to skirt the law?

What bullshit.

4. We get that crap all the time.
I actually called the Board of Elections here after one letter that went on and on about registered Republicans like me, to confirm that I was NOT, somehow, listed as one. After confirming that I'm not, the clerk laughed and said, "They got you." It's a ploy. I don't think it's illegal, though.

We also get the photos regularly. I think we're on a list because of either our address (high income area) or spouse's job (exec at a big company). I enjoy writing "STEPFORD" on Laura's face and "BOZO" on George's when I'm really hard up for fun.

I always want to send this stuff back to them at their own expense, but the bar code on the envelope makes me wonder if they'll know it's me (yeah, I'm a little paranoid).

5. I'm not sure if there was an envelope with it, looked like a postcard
although I can't be 100% certain, I'll ask him. That was my initial thought also. I asked him if he voted regularly, thinking that they were targetting people that didn't, but he does.

11. Please write "return to sender /refused" on those pieces of mail and
drop them back in a box. Whoever sent them will have to pay to have them sent back. (You can also black out your name so the mail can't be returned to you.)It works. I do it with mail sent to my husband (who has been dead for 7 years) and anything else that I want stopped. In many cases, I write take off of mailing list, deceased person. After about 4-5 times, they stop.

6. It's an old telemarketing ploy
the script goes something like We just called to thank you for your help in the past....and want you to renew.....

Looks like the RNC has found a way to do it with the mail....isn't that mail fraud?

7. Happened to me too...
There are several official websites you can check (sorry, can't think of their names at the moment; google around) to see if you are listed as a donor and for what amount. Also check to see if any relatives (alive or deceased) with similar names are listed.

I never found my name listed as a donor, or any sound-alike relatives. I have no idea why I got a "personalized" 8 x 11 glossy photo of Bush in a bomber jacket giving the thumbs-up sign.

My one theory to date involves NewsMax. I signed up for their e-mail alerts (yes, counterintelligence work is very painful), and shortly afterwards the glossy photo arrived in the mail.

10. It's Fraud...
The crooked liers are receiving large amounts of money (from filthy rich baba bush mostlikely), and the only way they can claim the under $2000 amount, is to distribute the the money among people who did not contribute. I'm sure they're using lists of dead people and inmates throughout the country. Who the heck is going to check that. Besides, the crooked liers don't need to show the names of people contributing.

12. A good way to check
I agree it might just be a ploy, but you should check Opensecrets.org to make sure someone isn't donating in your name.

13. Reminds me of the letters that were written during the Iraqi
war. Just like when they faked the testimonies and signatures of the some troops during the war in Iraq. It sounds like another set up to me!
