Kerry Sends Clark Stumping Through Swing State OHIO
A Message from Wes Clark
March 12, 2004

With the results of Tuesday's primaries in Texas, Mississippi, Florida, and Louisiana, and after a spirited series of primaries and caucuses in more than 34 states, John Kerry has clinched the Democratic nomination for President of the United States.

Never before in history has our party stood so united, so determined, so early. Never before has our party been so ready, so soon, so confident in who we are, what we believe, and how we are going to make this great country even greater. And now, with John Kerry, we are ready to lead this nation forward.

I'm proud to be standing with John Kerry -- a real American patriot, a true statesman, a great leader, and the next President of the United States. I'm doing my part to make sure that he wins this fall, including making calls, appearing on news shows, and reaching out to voters. Over the past couple of weeks, I've campaigned in Georgia and Kansas. Next week I'll be campaigning for John Kerry in the key swing-state of Ohio, and I'm looking forward to helping much more in the weeks and months to follow.

And I'm proud that so many of you are standing with us to fight for America's future. The response from friends like you, and millions of other Democrats, has been overwhelming. Throughout my campaign, and especially over the past few weeks, I've witnessed first-hand in people everywhere the passion and enthusiasm we need to change America.

You have already played a critical role in this great national debate: you got me into this race, you carried our message throughout your community, and you supported my campaign from beginning to end. This process of debating the issues, motivating grassroots support, bringing new people into the party, and choosing our nominee has been great for the Democratic Party. And now we will close ranks behind John Kerry, committed to do all that we can to win back the White House this November.

But we still need your help -- today, this week, this month, and through November -- to elect John Kerry this fall. Here are just a few things I'd ask you to do:

Join your local Kerry 2004 Meetup. Bring your knowledge and experience in grassroots organizing to the next Kerry 2004 Meetup on Thursday, March 25th. Your work through local Meetups played a critical role in our campaign, and they will be important to John Kerry's victory this fall. We will win this election one community at a time, one vote at a time, and Meetups can really help.

Visit www.JohnKerry.com. Learn more about John Kerry, his stands on the issues, and how you can get more involved in his campaign.

Get involved with your local Democratic party. Help organize local outreach events and voter registration drives.

Reach out to friends and family. Talk to everyone you know about the importance of this fall's election, and invite them to get involved with you.

Stay tuned for coming news about my future plans. I'm finalizing the details on these activities, and I'll be telling you more about them in the next few weeks. We'll need your help to take action at a local level and across the country, supporting John Kerry and Democrats everywhere in bringing a higher standard of leadership to America.
As always, thanks so much for your continued support. I look forward to working with all of you to elect John Kerry this November and make America an even better, safer, stronger, and more prosperous nation.

Best regards,

Wes Clark

8. I'm a total Clarkie too...
but I'd rather see him either as Sec'y of State or National Security Adviser. He'd have more influence (probably more so as NSA) and/or a higher profile (esp. as Sec'y of State). Whatever Kerry has in mind for Clark, it should be announced sooner rather than later. It would certainly fire me up!

10. He would change the face of
the Vice Presidency, and be set to be President (which is why we drafted him). He won't be able to do that as SOS, even though he is supremely qualified for it.

43. Veep would be best.
I'm not counting on it or getting my hopes up, but I absolutely think he would be the strongest choice for the ticket.

And I don't at all think he would be too old to run for pres in 2012. Not at his level of fitness and youthfulness. Face it, whoever Kerry's VP is will almost certainly get the nomination after Kerry's terms are up, unless it's someone really old like Graham.

I still nurse dreams of someday seeing Clark as President.

It's really nice to hear from him again, I really miss him. I'm looking foreward to your report after you see him.

16. Not SecState and definitely not NSA
Secretary of State requires Senate confirmation. We can count on the Repub Senate "targetting" at least one major Kerry nomination. Show of force, to put Kerry in his place. I believe Wes Clark would be the one. Way too much hostility on the part of Repubs who think they should own the military vote.

NSA is a demotion. Remember, Colin Powell held the postion as a 3-star. Which is not to say Clark wouldn't take it anyway, if he thought it would serve the national interest. But it's really not that important a position. They just give Condi Rice a lot of visibility for political reasons. She has no power.

Maybe Director of Central Intelligence? Now there's an idea I hadn't thought of before. Boy would he be good.

I still think Kerry needs him as VP to win in November, but that might not be a bad alternative. Just in case Mr. Kerry hasn't been reading our messages. ;)

44. Remember, if you want to
encourage Kerry to think seriously about Clark on the ticket, then be sure to log any donation you make to the Kerry campaign at this site,

http://www.wesclarkdemocrats.com/

Even if you never supported Clark for president, but just want him chosen for running mate, this is a good way to encourage it.

I will be making my first contribution in a few days, as soon as I'm solvent again.

32. Not presumptive at all
Wes Clark is on John Kerry's team. Has been, formally, since Feb 13th. Kerry has asked him to speak in his place at various state Democratic functions. I don't think there's anything in this letter that says more than that. Even the letterhead is just Clark--compare that to the one that the Kerry campaign sent out to all their own registered supporters. Even Judy W recognized how much the letterhead made them look like one presidential ticket, even if she did try to make it look like Clark had put it there.

41. no, no, no,
sorry, i'm not always good at clearly expressing what i mean. if it wasn't clear, what i meant was not that he was being presumptive, but, rather, because of the we's, we'll's, us's, and the bringing a higher standard of leadership to America, he wasn't being presumptive but, rather, was giving us subtle hints of things to come.

48. The Clintons
support Edwards...big time.

Whatever Wes has is cooking up will be fine with me. I believe he really liked the global village aspect of his campaign and wants to extend it. Good.

Holbrooke will be at State, Rand Beers will be NSC. Those are very safe bets.

Wes Clark likes team efforts, duh! He is asking us to build and form a cohesive team with one mission, get the asshole out of the White House. Our country, the one Clark loves, is in danger_the worst it has ever known. After 58 years he formally joined a party, and the Democratic Party has a member who will work his butt off for them. He always thinks in terms of "we." That is why he is a leader, this is not about him.

WE are very lucky.

I tell myself not to count on anything, and that it's probably not going to happen anyway, but I already know that I will feel devestated once again if he is not chosen.

I'm doing my best to brace myself for it.:-(

Can't find any stats on-line, but I'd estimate he's at LEAST 5'9", maybe 5'10". That's not little. It's the national average, maybe a little above average for Clark's age group.

Besides, what he lacks in height, he makes up for in build. Very trim but powerful. Standing next to him last Friday, "little" was the farthest notion from MY mind.

Fwiw, my husband is 5'9", and probably about the same weight. Not proportioned quite the same. But I guess he'll do.

3/11 about Clinton in the Bronx.

There's a sentence in there about how Clinton talked with Kerry on March 3 about the VP spot.....

Clinton is on the record that without national security credentials, any Dem will LOSE to Bush. So, wouldn't it make sense to load this ticket with as much national security as possible?

Not only does Edwards NOT have this, but he was in cahoots with Shelton to try to discredit Clark. So why would Kerry choose him? Kerry also has said his VP needs foreign policy experience.....

and frequent visitor to the Buckeye State, I hope EVERYONE within range will get out and see Clark as he stumps for Kerry.

Once you do, you'll know why those of us that have had the privilege are rooting so hard for him to be VP. He is, without question, the best there is.

Besides, what else is there to do in Dayton? :)

62. If Cheney has to debate Clark
I think he will take a pass, & stay home to count his Halliburton money instead. That will cheer him up!

69. Wes has done an amazing job
inspiring his supporters.

This week, a small number of our core Clark Supporters will be meeting with the core Kerry group here. We'll be talking about the role that the Clarkies can take in the upcoming campaign.

I NEVER would have thought that I'd be participating so soon in the Kerry campaign. I didn't think I'd be able to feel enthused and energized about anyone but Wes. But when I see Wes putting his heart and soul into supporting Kerry, how can I not try to live up to that???

73. I am not a Clark Supporter
But I have said from day one it is going to take Kerry, Edwards,GEp.Sharpton and Clark to win the election. I think we are going to see most of them somewhere in the Cabinet

74. Story about the campaign auction in Little Rock
Saw this mentioned on the CCN blog:

http://www.wreg.com/Global/story.asp?S=1707974

snip

About 300 people packed into the fourth-floor offices at historic Union Station that served as Clark Central for five months. Some were Clark supporters, others were adding to their offices and still others hoped to make money reselling the items on eBay.

Campaign budget director Andy Kessel says he estimates the auction could raise about 15-thousand dollars. Kessel said he wants to raise half a (m) million dollars from the auction and other fund-raisers to cover debt from the campaign.
