Poll question: What's the FIRST thing you want Pres. Kerry to do?
My favorite is to enact real election reform, including outlawing ballot less e-voting. I've got a few others high on my list. Add your own. It's time to dream the now possible dream!

1. Let's face it
they're all good things, and all things he's likely to do, but I really want a 9/11 investigation. I think it's vitally important something like that doesn't happen in this country again.

The most important thing is a 9/11 investigation, but I desperately want to make sure those Pukes can never steal another one.

42. My initial thought too.
Arrest Bush, Cheney, Rummy, Rice, and Powell and try them all for war crimes and treason.

Other important unfinished business that would be taken care of in a just world - which we'll never see:

Arrest and thrown the book at Kenny boy.
Conduct public 9/11 hearings.
Cancel the "Patriot" Act and "No child left behind."
Get the hell out of Iraq and pay war reparations.

I'll settle for knowing the bastards are out on their asses, though. At this point, anything Kerry does willl be an improvement.

8. I know the first thing he's going to do.
He's going to issue an executive order overturning Bush's edict that no money can go to any international health organizations that educate women on reproduction or adminster to birth control needs or abortion services.

Next he's going to give governments around the world exactly 100 days to open up their records and banking books to anti-terror initiatives that target their illegal funding. Just like he intended post BCCI. After 100 days he promises to start naming names. (And he knows exactly who they are and who they are connected to - This will insure headaches for the BFEE.)

14. Immedeatly resign and push for a new constitutional convention
To fix this broke ass sham of a democracy.

Only in America does bribery equal free speech.

Only in America can a child be denied health care due to poverty and then have the parent charged with neglect for not providing health care.

Only America has 50% of the people not caring who takes their money and sends them to war.

Only in America can a man say 'there ought to be limits to freedom' and then be elected president.

Only in America can an election be stolen in broad daylight with nary a peep.

The Constitution was a great document, but corrupt 'interpretations' and blind indifferance by Americans have allowed it to be shredded.

17. There is so much mess to clean up
but I agree that having a real investigation into 9/11, as well as Cheney's secret energy meetings that resulted in price gouging here in CA, should be a priority. Also, the repeal of the abortion gag rule that * implemented as soon as he took office. Oh yeah, health care is a MAJOR issue that he should definitely start on right away. And then the mess in Iraq.....oh my......poor Kerry.

46. Actually, it already WAS once, believe it or not.
Reportedly, it was through the Patriot Act that investigations of Mush Limpdick's illegal "business transactions" regarding Oxycontin were conducted. I'm not a big fan of this fascism being applied to things that have nothing to do with terrorism, but since Limpdick yelled on his radio show about "hysterical liberals distorting the Patriot Act", it serves him right to have it used against him.

28. Cancel the PATRIOT Act
The first thing that needs to go is that stinking pile of monkey dung BushCo foisted on an unsuspecting public in the gung-ho bloodthirsty months immediately following 9/11. That single "Act" has done more to destroy liberty in this country than all previous civil liberties threats combined.

Get rid of PATRIOT. If there are some "good" parts of this act (I'm very skeptical of that), then rewrite them into a new bill.

After that, Single-Payer Universal Health Care-- not "insurance"-- but a guarantee that if you live in this country you CANNOT be denied healthcare as a basic human right.

There's more, but you could probably guess those already...

If our votes don't count, we can't elect the right people to do all the other things that need to be done (and this has to become effective immediately so there is time for all states to prepare to stop ballotless voting for the next election cycle).

After an executive order banning paperless ballots, we must close the deal in Iraq, get out, and repair our alliances.

And start the shredding process on all the bad legislation * and pitbull Ashcroft has put into effect.

And then the health care and environmental and tax cut reversals, not necessarily in that order. Then 9/11-gate. Then Iraq-gate. But first thing is he has to clean up the anti-Constitutional mess * left us.

I don't know *what* he's going to do in Iraq itself.

and curb global warming. We need to reduce our greenhouse emissions exponentially or we're headed to a planet that's just as hot as an oven. What Kerry also needs to do after fixing up Dubya's mess is to put a lot of money into alternative energy research, perhaps through NASA or some other company.

The threat of global warming is serious and I hope that we all can realize that before it's too late.

66. Revoke the order providing for military tribunals in Guantanamo
Most of that named in the poll cannot be done unilaterally

However, I suppose Kerry could follow in Clinton's footsteps and revoke a particularly odious executive order. Bush has issued so many that it is hard to find just one that merits the honor.

I might suggest the Presidential order of November 13, 2001, authorizing military tribunals for the Guantanamo detainees. The proposed tribunals are secret, beyond public scrutiny. The defense lawyers must be approved by the government, limiting a defendant's right to council. The tribunals are questionable under international law.

This order makes a good candidate.

- REAL restraints on corporations (including revoking their personhood) and SEC reform.
- REAL enforcement of equal civil rights for everyone.
- REAL election reform (ban BBV, for starters).
- A BAN on any further GMO testing, planting, or marketing.
- A BAN on for-profit corporations running essential services, including public education, public utilities, and health care. (This would be AFTER the initial immediate rollback to pre-Bush status.)

That's just the beginning. Our new president and his administration will certainly have their work cut out for them. WE need to be united, patient, and supportive -- but not passive -- in encouraging the priorities and goals we want him to address.

On edit: Add the first and most important item after the arrests.

71. His first day in office, sign a bunch of executive orders a la Clinton.
Said XOs would reverse a lot of the bullshit XOs that Shrubby signed on *his* first day of office. There are far too many to list here, but you can probably guess which Orders I mean.

73. Abolish NCLB.
Oh, yeah. He likes NCLB. He just wants to "fully fund" it.

Looks like I'm out of luck the next 4 years, or 8 years, whichever way November goes, doesn't it?
