My first warning from the admins was for defending Howard Dean....
Edited on Wed Dec-31-03 10:13 AM by Rowdyboy
who is not even my first choice, against those who would portray him as Hitler. Though my language wa intemperate, I felt it justified due to the sickness of the image. The admins disagreed and I beg their pardon.

It was deserved because I unfortunately suggested he reture to FR. Sorry, but visuals of Dean as Hitler are bound to inflame people-even non-supporters of Dean.

The pic did not show Clark as the Fuhrer...it showed a picture of a cartoon Hitler surrendering with "Fuhrer 04" caption. The picture in no way was portraying Clark one bit, but rather using the pro-military sentiment to an extreme to make a point (it mocked a pro-Clark add, but didn't suggest Clark was Hitler). It was an artistic expression I feel is rather quite valid, and I will post it after every comment of webkev that I respond to.

It doesn't equate Clark to Hitler. It is a statment regarding what happens when people compromise their beliefs to choose a campaign with nationalistic/militaristic appeal that will reach the far right (or be within the far right allready). I felt a breaking point when people are defining "hero", "service", "patriot", and "duty" by terms which pander to the elitist who use the military as a tool of death and destruction, and then telling me I NEED such because they project their own empty nationalism onto myself. As soon as people stop picking candidates based on "electability" determined by nationalistic furvor, Im going to cede the point.

BTW, Im honored a few minutes of my time made such an impact. :)

4. Thanks for defending Dean
Some jerk posted a link to that pic over on the Dean blog, in an obvious attempt to stir shit up. It was an AWFUL pic, and I appreciate the fact that non-Dean supporters have spoken up against it too. Thank you.

7. Civil Disobedience
Sometimes its necessary to break the rules to do whats right, that is a warning I would take with pride. Just an FYI--don't be surprised to see this moved to another forum.

16. Exactly. You took a hit for the greater cause.
Unfortunately there are always some who don't take the time to look into a fabricated attack. All they see is some ugly post by a BLANK supporter, and they look to see whether other BLANK supporters approve, or if they are willing to take the ugly poster on. You did exactly the right thing. Thanks.

9. You're right. No Dem. candidate should be compared to Hitler.
I'm starting to think that a lot of the fighting on DU is misdirected anger. While we don't always agree on who's the best candidate, it isn't asking too much to save the anger towards the person who really deserves it...Bush.

When comments are made comparing one of our own team mates to Hitler, then the debate is no longer a debate. It's just absurd crap at that point.

I'm glad you were able to work it out with the mods.

14. Also, Dean supporters don't deserve to be compared to nazis either
but that doesn't stop some people here from comparing us to brownshirts.

15. By replying to a post that is
inflammatory it gets bumped to the top. If you leave it alone it falls of the page.

17. In a typical case yes
In this case the poster in question was going to a lot of trouble to represent himself as a Clark supporter, even using the campaign's name in his ID, and too many people were buying into it. One supposed Dean supporter (I am starting to wonder) picked up on what the jerk was doing and was spreading it around DU as something coming from Clark supporters. I hear it made it onto Dean's blog also.
