It is time to "define" McCain
All of us have a responsibility to try our best to define McCain before the media puts a lockhold perception of maverick and straight shooter. Instead of pissing at eachother in our own tents we should be concentrating on pissing out of our tents together (LBJ reference). This is a crucial time where perception will sway the undecided and uneducated voters. It is very important for all of us to discuss the negative things a McCain presidency would bring to America when we are discussing politics with friends, co-workers, etc. Lets define him before he reinforces his current "image"!

unless you're considering a broader definition of torture (like all war leads to torture of some sort)

180 on everything he has said to this point. Keep up and watch who you're saying is lying.

26. I haven't seen an explanation on his abrupt about-face, but I'm sure he
thought it was a throw-away vote, because Bush will veto anyway. He's trying to build his right-wing credentials and has sold his soul in the process.

27. yuck. add soul-less and sell-out to the list.
Maybe the strategy is to keep the GOP'ers at home!

Good grief, spend a few days sick and tuned out of the news and you miss torture victims switching to torture advocates!

29. I think both Dem candidates need to grab this one and run with it. McCain has
left himself wide open on this one and needs to be hammered on it. Not only is he wrong on the issue itself, it proves that this is one man who will compromise his morals and values for political expediency. It's an easy take-down and both Obama and Clinton need to call him on it ASAP.

14. Forget McCain. We should ignore him. Focus on what Obama can do.
If we can make this election about Obama and what kind of leader he can be McCain will be marginalized. No need to pick fights with McCain. It will just give him free publicity. Drown the sucker out with Obama stories.

15. The Repig Media Has Already Convinced Most of the Country That McCain is a Saint
They are under orders to use the words "maverick", "moderate", and "straight shooter" every time they talk about him, and the endless repetition has had the expected effect on the television audience.

We have an uphill battle fighting these memes.

How do we do it?

Making sure a lot of people see this would be a start:

21. McLame: Flip-floppin', Bush*-Huggin', Fundie-Brown-Nosin', War-mongerin'
Edited on Wed Feb-13-08 11:33 PM by app_farmer_rb
McLame: Flip-floppin', Bush*-Huggin', Fundie-Brown-Nosin', War-mongerin' Clueless Mothafucker who would be harmless enough if he was playing checkers in the back of the barbershop and spouting his old-man-out-of-touch-with-reality opinions. But he should be allowed no closer to the levers of power in this society. Ever. His campaign promises to extend and exacerbate the mistakes of the *-pResidency are some of the few political promises I am willing to accept at face value (and REJECT at the ballot box).

I am certainly not against old people, and I honor the many elders who share their experience while also keeping their ears open to new insights, but I am reminded of a joke from Reagan's 2nd term. The comedian (can't remember who, or I would give credit) said (roughly), "Ya know, Reagan is 72 years old now. That's something else. My grand-dad is 72 and he can't be trusted with the TV remote, but somehow it's OK for Reagan to have his finger on the button?!?"

Though McCain is less culpable than Bush in it, the context still has a big "squick" factor.
