Unless Dems can get that under control you have no hope there, imho. If Kerry can get some kind of suit going against paperless e-voting you, Florida, and Georgia will have a good chance to go Dem. I think Texans are totally fed up with the rightwing.

Our voting tabulation systems vary by county. Since Texas' state government isn't quite as powerful as some places, there are a variety of vote-counting technologies in use. Some use optical scanner methods (With forms like the ones we remember from our SAT tests). Others use a cyber-contraption by E-slate with a dial and a couple of big buttons that looks something like an adult version of a Fisher-Price toy. I don't think anyone is still using punch tabs like the infamous ones of Florida.

I fear that the Right is going to be powerful in Texas for a very long time. It's going to take a Hugo Chavez/Huey Long type of political movement to rout the reactionaries. I may not be that radical myself, but who knows whether enough Texas voters will be furious enough to go that way?

I think Kerry, at least, might pull it off in November. DeLay has probably got an iron grip on his local machine, so I wouldn't give his opponent much of a chance. Still, it feels good to champion the right person, even when he/she is a long shot.

While I think there's a good chance that Morrison won't win, I'm planning to donate anyway. I'm from Austin, I've been gerrymandered into a particularly reactionary Republican Congressional district, and I think that Tom De Lay's politics are poison to the US body politic as a whole and the policies he supports are disastrous for the future of the USA. Win or lose, that's enough motivation for me to donate.

And for all I know, maybe enough disgruntled voters in the 22nd Texas Congressional district will turn out to send Tom De Lay back to Congress after the 2004 elections as a lame duck. The brewing corruption scandal might be enough to finally do the trick. Wouldn't that be nice?

I think anybody bucking Delay should get as much help as he can get from Dems everywhere.

Attorney for the enviroment.....Houston has it's problems there....He's whitebread bible belt, breeder material too. He's got a chance.....

Delay is going to be dragged through a Grand Jury regarding PAC activities in Texas over the course of this year. He is going to lose support in Sugarland.

If the people of Sugarland see a decent, honest, family-man alternative to this GOP sod, SOME of them WILL vote for him.

Even if Morrison doesn't win, Delay will have to focus energy on campaigning, which he hasn't had to do in over a decade, and at the same time keep a straight face under oath in front of a Grand Jury.

If Morrison can hang a big enough shingle on his door, 'they will come.'
