Call me an idealist or naive, but ...
Our country was founded by folks that were willing to risk everything to make a better life for those that would come behind them. The realistic sacrifices of the "greatest" generation were given to make a better, safer place for their children.

So I guess I'm saying that taking a risk on Obama is a patriotic thing to do. Voting for someone that has been willing to build his whole campaign on moving America forward instead of endless war or it's my (my gender's) turn seems to be what America is about.

1. Huh.. Why are we all always sacraficing?
When fat cats sit at the top 1% and watch us run around our little rat mazes? Fuck that the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness includes the right to a home, nutritious food, clean water/air, and healthcare... and that is a right to every human being.. not just a few lucky people in the world.

3. Quite familiar with the mythology of our history
But, it's the myth of America that makes it strong, not the reality. That's the point of this thread. We argue over the fine points of health care insurance and bringing the troops home in one year or 15 months. It just seems like this election more than any most of us can remember (and I remember 1960) is about the soul of our nation. We've had nearly 8 years of horrendous governance and erosion of our rights, I want something better. While he might be a bit light on experience, Obama has the message and built his campaign around our dreams. He might turn out to be only a charismatic charmer, but after this current malAdministration, that might be enough.

Edwards was my first choice, have always been a populist by nature, but could not get enough folks to join him to seize the reins. Obama's message is softer, with few of John's specific points, but think he'll come closer to working for the middle/lower class than the other candidates.

4. I think JRE said something to the effect ,that we need a president
who will fight. One that will not give a seat at the table to the greedy corporations. He said something sorta like the Dixie Chicks said "I don't want to make nice". John knew we needed a fighter and Obama is not a fighter he is a uniter. He wants to make nice with the very entities, that John knew you could not allow to have a seat at the table. In reality JRE and BHO were not very much alike at all. I was an Edwards gal in 2004. I was an Edwards gal in 2007 until he participated in the tag team on Hillary. I then became a Hillary gal with John Edwards as my second pick. The more I educated myself on Hillary, the more I liked who she is and respected her platform. I still really like JRE and am sorry he is not still in. I watched him start seeing stuff about Obama that he didn't care for. John started challenging Obama in his last debate. I think he saw the light. I still hope he endorses neither.
