Clinton, Obama Supporters Say Fight May Hurt Party (Bloomberg News)
Feb. 17 (Bloomberg) -- Supporters of Senators Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama say they are concerned that a protracted Democratic presidential nomination fight over delegates may hurt the party's chance to win in November.

Obama and Clinton are vying for votes before Wisconsin's Feb. 19 primary, and are gearing up for nominating contests in Ohio, Texas and Pennsylvania. With the pledged delegate count close, they are also sparring over whether so-called superdelegates, members of Congress, governors and party leaders, are free to back either candidate.

``The goal is that at the end of the day we don't have such an internecine battle that we lose the general election,'' New York Senator Charles Schumer, a Clinton supporter, said today on NBC's ``Meet the Press'' program. ``We are on the edge of victory here.''

Senator Dick Durbin of Illinois, an Obama supporter, said that if the convention appears to have been decided ``in the backroom'' by the party elite, ``that isn't any good for the Democratic Party.''

1. Do we not have any faith in our own system?
If neither has the delegate totals before the convention, of course it should go to the convention.

A six year old could understand that.

We have a system. IF this situation, then this action. It's our system. Have we no faith in it?

3. Yes. And I betcha that a 6 y.o. also knows that whoever is significantly AHEAD in "people delegates"
should be declared the WINNER.

NO "insider" backroom deals that FLIP the popular vote will unite the party. Bank on that! :grr:

4. The winner will be the one who reaches the pre-determined number of delegates.
Not the one who is ahead. Were you making this argument when Hillary was ahead? I doubt it.

6. Bullshit! The winner should be the ONE with the highest delegates/popular vote.
I'll be damned if The American DEMOCRATIC Electorate will give up their VOICE to *PARTY ROYALTY.*

You want all HELL to break loose, then let the democratic *insiders* (Super-delegates) select ***OUR*** Democratic Nominee.

If the Super-delegates go against the WILL OF THE PEOPLE DELEGATES, there will be hell to pay! :nuke:

11. They didn't set a certain delegate count to determine the wininer for nothing.
wtf?

Lemme know when Kerry and Kennedy throw their support to Hillary reflecting the votes of the people in MA. We can talk then about who sd's should be voting for, ok?

12. I say again, if "the party elite" (super-delegates) SELECT our Nominee over the people-delegates ...
there will be HELL TO PAY! :nuke:

5. I will say on the record now that if HRC wins the popular vote and pledged delegates
she has my vote.

If she overturns them with arm twisted SDs and the MI/FL delegates, I stay home in November.

If she wants to divide the party, she can do it without me. We will have 4 years of President McCain to rebuild it.

7. Exactly! If HRC and her surrogates *cheat to win* I'm (and many others) not voting for her.

8. Bullying is always ugly, and the Obama campaign is taking
lessons from the neo-cons, or orders, I'm not sure which.

10. Only in an Clintonian "Orwellian" Mindset would honoring "People DELEGATES" be considered bullying.

14. Don't worry, after the fiasco in florida with the DNC
Florida is definitely going red. It seems democrats aren't as excited here as republicans who actually came to the state and campaigned.

13. NO! I like the way things have developed and the message of HOPE both bring!
It does NOT have to be this way, all this in-fighting need not be the way for us dems. America is fast becoming aware now of the great potential it has in both of these candidates. If enough of us who feel as I do will just come out of the closet on this, our message will get out even more. Yes, there are the flamers on each side for these two senators. MOST do those flames for one simple reason: A love for AMERICAN! If we did not care then we would not get so damned ANGRY! We ALL have this in common. I say turn that love around, stop being fearful and the anger will subside. THAT LOVE FOR AMERICA CAN be our strength right now when America needs that very strength.

I applaud BOTH candidates and their supporters for bringing the message of HOPE back to America. Let us continue to do this, let us show the world that politics as usual here in America is over with. Take the high road here my fellow DUers: Find ways to support each other, we are NOT the bad guys, we CAN do this! If you have to, FAKE IT!

Obama supporters: You KNOW you will need the Clinton supporters to get that win America so desperately needs should Senator Obama get the nomination. Stop driving your allies away, instead bring us back together by showing your support for Senator Clinton. Prove to her supporters that YOU will be there for them and for America if Senator Clinton gets the nomination. STOP TAKING POT SHOTS AT HER!!! If you do this now, it will be far easier to gain that support YOUR candidate WILL need should HE get the nomination instead.

The bottom line here is America and America's severely wounded democracy. Let us come together to rescue her. Let's stop acting like repugs who can only act out of fear and let us show the world that DEMOCRATS can act out of HOPE. BOTH candidates are giving us and the world that message of HOPE. If we keep running with it: WE WILL CHANGE THE WORLD.
thank you :patriot:
