For the radical fundies who are ushering in the Second Coming...
Edited on Sun Feb-17-08 04:21 PM by Emit
Wouldn't they welcome in who they perceive to be the anti Christ? I mean, this never makes any sense to me. They spread this outrageous crap claiming various politicians are the anti Christ, but then talk about how excited they are that the Apocalypse is upon us and they yearn for the day they will be whisked up to heaven. Don't they need the anti Christ to fulfill their prophesy?

I know, I know. There's no rationale that can be applied. But I have fundie relatives who keep passing me this absurd shit about our Dem candidates. It's truly mind boggling. Edited to add, I just keep telling them to vote for the anti Christ then if they are so excited about fulfilling their prophesy.

1. Ask them why they don't want to go to the Lord...
or whatever the hell the end of the world is suppose to do for them.

If a Democrat is the Anti-Christ, you'd think the would be excited about going "home".

2. Yes, thats why they support Israel too.
Before Armageddon can happen, the Anti Christ must conquer Israel. Then Israel must be destroyed in turn by the Army of Light.

If Israel ceases to exist BEFORE the Anti Christ comes, the Second Coming will never happen.

Christian fundamentalism is its own special kind of insanity.

3. Oh jeesh
that particular aspect didn't even enter into the discussion I had with my fundie relative...yet. I have no doubt it will if I choose to continue to engage in the banter with him, though. I guess I need to break open my Bible to get the scoop on Revelation, or at least do some Googling. *sigh*

4. In 2003, a fundy came up to our demonstration
and told us that Bush was the Second Coming of Christ.

6. Jerry Falwell said god told him the rapture would happen in his lifetime
Well, Falwell's rotting in the grave now, so I guess the rapture came and went. Maybe armaggeddon already happened, and no one noticed?

8. Sometimes, I think God just gets an enourmous amout of pleasure screwing with funies.
"Trust me, Jerry. You've got to make sure EVERYONE knows I'm coming back BEFORE YOU DIE!"

Oh, Peter! You'll never guess what I just told Falwell!

7. you may want to ask why
they "trust in God" yet are some of the most ardent supporters of military action, eager and willing to fund instruments of destruction but not opportunities to feed the hungry, house the homeless and treat the sick.

Why they support the "Death penalty" when the bible says God says "vengence is mine".

Why they don't want to "pay taxes"- and resent programs that benefit the 'least of these' who live among us, when over and over the bible says "Do not store up for yourself treasures on earth" or "to whom much is given much will be required"- or the command to "sell all you have, and give this money to the poor," if you really want to follow God.

people use all sorts of things to support their own desires.

I don't blame religion. It is only a 'tool'- Each one of us is responsible for our own individual choices.

peace~

9. Yes. I am reminded of this interchange between Falwell and Jesse Jackson
...

According to a transcript of Sunday night’s “CNN Late Edition With Wolf Blitzer,” Falwell, pastor of Thomas Road Baptist Church in Lynchburg, Va., defended the U.S.-led war in Iraq.

“I’d rather be killing them over there than fighting them over here,” Falwell said in a discussion with Jesse Jackson.

“Let’s stop the killing and choose peace,” Jackson replied. “Let’s choose negotiation over confrontation.”

“Well, I’m for that, too,” Falwell said. “But you’ve got to kill the terrorists before the killing stops. And I’m for the president to chase them all over the world. If it takes 10 years, blow them away in the name of the Lord.”

“That does not sound biblical to me,” Jackson said. “And that sounds ridiculous.”
