6. Good idea
Wouldn't want to start working to get Bush out of office a moment too soon now, would we.

Or maybe you're waiting until after the convention. Oh yeah, once a candidate takes GE federal campaign funding, we can't give anymore.

But you just keep waiting for perfection...

I come in with a positive (for me) and I am attacked. Seems like Kerry supporters want to alienate people that might come around.

Kerry still has a lot to atone for...I am trying...but your attitude is not going to help establish dialog.

In case you hadn't noticed...I never gave Kerry any credit. So this is a step for me...see greatauntoftriplets response below.

16. Par for the course...
I come in with a positive (for me) and I am attacked.

Surprised? This is Kerry supporter SOP!

I first thought that a lot of this behavior was coming from DLC types more committed to kicking progressives out of the Democratic Party than kicking George Bush out of the White House. Now, I think it's more a sense of insecurity among Kerry backers, wanting to believe that Kerry is The Everything Candidate For Everybody<tm>, so perfect that he cannot lose. It's a similar phenomenon to what you see in certain fundamentalist religious groups. Even the slightest lack of enthusiasm for Senator Electable reminds them of what they spend a lot of psychic energy trying to suppress, namely the realization that Kerry, like most politicians, is a flawed candidate. Whereas the rest of us may recognize this fact, and at the same time be committed to doing everything we can to elect this somewhat-flawed candidate (the only nominee we have, after all) over the infinitely-more-flawed (p)resident, for the most devoted, saying anything less than 110% favorable about TECFE<tm> is a little like suggesting to the aforementioned fundamentalists that maybe every single word of the Bible isn't literally true -- their reaction will be that you are really trying to destroy their faith in its entirety.

Kerry supporters: Don't worry so much! Even if we're not as enthusiastic about your candidate, we are going to do what we can to elect him. Insisting on a loyalty oath at every turn, though, is not going to help.

17. Bush or Kerry
That's the choice. I'm not known for pulling punches. There's no trying about it. There's no time for therapy. There's no time for spiritual journies. Bush or Kerry. It's just a very simple decision.

14. i've been slow to warm to Kerry, but...
...I have to admit I liked the way he shut down that jackass who was asking him about whether North Korea wanted him to win. He doesn't grab his balls all that often, so it was nice to see him tell that moron to basically sit down and shut the fuck up.

20. Kerry, being the nominee apparent, is doing what needs to be done...
at this point. Looking back to previous presidential races, it is obvious that the nominee generally gets to state points that he will run on. But there is an incredible amount of time between now and the election. Kerry must use discretion at this point in much of what he says.

So far, with the cues he's gotten from both Dean and Clark, he's shown that he can put bush on the defensive and can shut down his critics. This is going to be a brutal campaign, it's just starting, and the bush camp is going negative; that is virtually unheard of in presidential campaigns at this point. It shows me desperation in the GOP camp.

Now is the time for us to rally to our cause, the ouster of bush and his cabal. I fear that if this is not done, the next 4 years under bush will be so disastrous as to be irreparable for a length of time I care not to think of. As it is, it will take 4 years of extremely hard work for an incoming president to change what damage has already occurred.

I urge everyone to come together, do not let one issue, or two divide us. Solidarity is what will bring about victory. We all know that our values are accepted by the American people far more often than that of the GOP. Progressives work to advance society, neo-cons only want a return to the days of the robber barons and intend to establish a feudal state.

21. Well said rasputin1952!
This is not the time for petty bickering. It is absolutely essential that Bush does not get in for another term.

I've followed American politics for a long time, and am absolutely astonished that anyone could watch what is happening in the US and still even think of voting for Bush.

I hope that Kerry can keep hitting hard on the issues and gain a large base of support. A close contest, as in 2000, will only give * another chance to cheat.

So I very much hope that you will all rally around Kerry, forget your differences, and get Bush out of office.

28. Thanks freeforall, and thanks for the view from the Great North!...
I always enjoy getting views from other places other than what we get down here. The American media has become the bane of many. I have a SW receiver and occasionally get all kinds of great stuff!

I have no idea why anyone would vote for bush either. Everything he has touched turned out to be a disaster. American politics can be hard to figure out sometimes, but for anyone not to see what a piece of trash this guy is, those are the ones that scare me.

I am working on getting people to gather together and ensure our nation survives. There is but one way I can see this happening, and that is getting rid of bush, for us to think of anything else, is national suicide.
