9. How best to contribute

I don't know all the rules about contributing. Is the maximum that an individual can contribute $2000 per year per candidate? Can each spouse contribute that amount?

When is the best time to give? I'm getting lots of e-mails and letters and calls, and I plan to give, but like most Democrats I don't have endless resources, and I want to be sure that what I give will be used wisely.

Is there anything else I should know about making contributions?

11. I'll try to answer your questions

First, I checked your profile and you live where there will probably be an upcoming Kerry fundraiser. I'll check for you, if you want. I know there's one in SF in 12 days for large donors.

Kerry needs money now. The sooner he gets it, then the more ads he can run. Bush will have way more than Kerry but Kerry is focused on fundraising now.

Each person can donate up to $2000 from their own funds. A couple can donate $4000. Once Kerry accepts the nomination and federal funds, he cannot accept or use anymore individual donations. So all of us have until July to give what we can.

You can donate over the internet. You can mail a check in. You could call the Kerry headquarters in SoCal and ask when the next fundraiser is.
