I'll bet Hillary talks about BEING PROUD of her country tonight...
Saw a clip of a stump speech where she mentions how proud she is of the United States ~ and I can see her dropping it again during the debate as a tactic to get Obama to jump in defense of his wife.

For her sake and the sake of the party, I really hope she takes the high road!

And he don't have no stinkin Five Military Deferments like Dickie Cheney. So neener, neener, neener. I am totally PROUD of his heterosexual-lobbyist proclivities, which are kinda normal (for a republicon). Smirk."

2. That would play very well for Obama...
...gives him a chance to defend his wife publicly... which is chivalrous and will play very well among married women.

It is the antithesis to what Dukakis did in the 1988 debate when asked the question about how he would feel if Kitty Dukakis were raped. Dukakis blew it by giving a clinical answer with no emotion......

Obama will "stand by his spouse" and appear like the strong loving husband that he is.

I hope Hillary does this. It would be amazingly stupid of her.

stick a fork in her, she's done. She's only going to look like one thing in the debates, a loser. Watch how she tries to force her talking points to hit Obama tonight. I predict it will be very awkward for her.

if Obama gave her a map and compass. hilary marched herself out in front of cameras and threw John Kerry to the wolves ..Obama is standing much more in her way than Kerry was at that time in history.

hilary takes the down and dirty route cause she has nothing to offer but her hilaryland tricks courtesy of the one they owe $2 million to, no doubt.

8. So what if she does? I'm sure she is proud of her country and I'm
fairly certain I have heard her use that phrase or one very similar on several occassions.

It astounds me that the ommission of one word in a prepared remark by the wife of a candidate has garnered as much attention as it has. I would much rather see the candidates debate on real issues rather than on some small point that has been blown way out of proportion by the media.

you came up with the same take on that the other OP did. It's so freakin' obvious what hilary is doing. No way she deserves to be president after her stunts for the 8 years and the people she listens to did her no favors.

I know Obama has a cold so there could be better times to debate the inevitable one.

17. News from Michelle Obama event in Ohio
Article published Thursday, February 21, 2008

Michelle Obama wows Cleveland crowd

BLADE STAFF

CLEVELAND — Speaking before a crowd of 1,000 gathered on a near-downtown college campus, Michelle Obama Thursday afternoon painted a picture of her comfortable life growing up in a working class family on the South Side of Chicago.

Then she drove home the reason that the crowd gathered in the University Center at Cleveland State University should vote for Barack Obama to become the Democratic nominee for president of the United States.

"The life that I had is becoming farther and farther out of reach," Mrs. Obama told the obviously enthusiastic crowd.

In a speech that lasted an hour, Mrs. Obama spoke of her husband’s background and his work fighting for underprivileged people and traced the obstacles he has overcome in his campaigning and his fund-raising to be where he is now: on the cusp of being named the Democratic nominee.

She also spoke out against the war in Iraq and reminded the crowd that Mr. Obama had the courage to speak out against it in a tight race for his Senate seat from Illinois.

Finally, Mrs. Obama spoke about the importance of Ohio and its March 4 primary election.

"We know Barack can do well, but we need you praying with us, working with us, and standing with us," she told the partisan crowd.

Before introducing Mrs. Obama, Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson announced his endorsement of the Illinois senator.

69. I'd love for him to slam back with that, too. Most Americans are such scurrilous scoundrels.
Not.

Or maybe he'll wear a flag pin lapel tonight to dispel any rumors that he isn't proud of this country.

51. Well, if Michelle Obama has felt nothing but shame for America...
all of her adult life...I think it's perfectly fine to point out that NOT all Americans agree with her.

Michelle put her foot in her mouth...hopefully Senator Clinton will remind Americans of the contempt Michelle held for her country, a contempt that only now has been assuaged by her husband coming to the rescue and finally bringing about something she could be "proud" of. This is something that will come back to haunt the Obama's if Barack gets the nod.

If Hillary attacks Michelle for what she said, she will only hurt herself. After all, she was a candidate's wife once and had to endure nasty attacks. To do it to Michelle? Desipicable.

76. No. I'm just calling it as I see it.
Michelle Obama should be ashamed of showing such contempt for her country. I hope it is not forgotten anytime soon. The RW machinery will pick up on this and kick it around if Obama gets the nod. And they have EVERY right to do so. Not all Americans agree that there is NOTHING we can be proud of sans Obama in our country. This will go hand in hand with the picture of Obama with his hands at his sides before the American flag. Rightly or wrongly the images will come back to haunt his campaign.

89. Michelle Obama did not show contempt for her country. She omitted
a word from a prepared remark and some people jumped on it. The explanation given was reasonable and should be accepted for what it was: a slip of the tongue.

Then Barack can explain just what Michelle said and meant.
He can turn this around so it bites Hillary in the ass.

78. Oh, yes..."Machine Gun" Obama will stutter and stammer his way...
through an explanation and tell the whole nation why exactly Michelle has held America in such contempt until her Messiah came to the rescue and she, magically, "f-f-f-found something to be p-p-proud of".

because I know Hillary knows why Michelle said that. Hillary would be playing to the wrong crowd if she emphasizes the "proud to be an American" thing in the debate.
