Hillary for Supreme Court!!!!
I am not kidding - it would be the absolutely perfect position for a brilliant woman, lawyer, Senator, author, former "100 Most Influential Lawyers in America" .

I have no doubt that her opinions would be well-reasoned, socially conscious and just.

This REALLY is the position she was made for and I bet she would even agree.

51. No, but President Obama might and as anyone with
a functioning brain knows, it's HIGHLY unlikely that McCain will beat Obama. Only those who are operating out of blind Hillary partisan hate or are woefully uneducated or none too bright, think McCain has a chance against Obama.

5. You know, I really like Hillary Clinton
but the Supreme Court is no place for someone who has never served as a judge. I feel the same way about Edwards. Just because someone has been a lawyer does not qualify them for this position.

9. You interpret the law on the Supreme Court...
Being anything but appellate judge really doesn't qualify you for that lofty bench...

A common pleas or district judge is more of a referee than a jurist in the true sense...

I believe she would make a great Supreme Court judge...

Edwards, not so much...

14. Pretty much the same here. At least you should be a lawyer who's won some cases there...
Being a judge would be even better, but I can't help but think the experience of preparing, presenting and winning a case in front of the Supreme Court would be a really good prerequisite, simply because it would give you the perspective of those who would be presenting cases to you. I have to think that would be a real benefit to making sound decisions...

15. The history of the Supreme Court is filled with MANY who never served as judges.
Really. I don't see it as a major drawback.

A lot of the "work" is done by clerks who do the research. After that research and internal discussion and memos, the Justice reaches a decision. I believe they are all well aware that the weight of history and future scholrs will really determine their judicial legacy.

47. yes, many of the BEST justices never served on any court before
being selected. True, not so much recently, but the history of the court is certainly replete with non judges... and even one ex-President (Taft, I believe).

Not that it would happen today, but in times gone by I believe some have been appointed who were not even lawyers.

However, should Reid step down, there are many in line for that position before her. They would have to put aside their own ambitions. Some of those in front of her are actually just as well qualified for that as she is. Personally, I'd love to see Senate Majority Leader Barbara Boxer!

53. Yep ... About the Supreme Court ...
Impossible ...

Totally and beyond any reason ... The right wing would LITERALLY revolt, and I am serious ...

1) Hill is the anti-christ to these people ...
2) They view the Supreme Court as their privileged right, their means of doing a backdoor around consitutional governance ... They have LONG been frustrated that they have not been able to use it as their default means of having dictoral control of our government ...

The two points above would translate PERFECTLY into their modus operendi of going APE Shiite in twisting what THEY do into a life and death issue about the Ds - the story line ... The evil Ds trying to do an "end run around the constitution" to get the antichist embodied into a position to ursup the presidency ...

NO democratic president could withstand the furor of putting her up, and there is not an R senator alive who would vote for her ... It would be a complete disaster ...

I DO think she would be an outstanding senate majority leader ... A LOT tougher than Reid, who ahs been disappointing to me in that regard, but also with a real track record of being able to work with the other side ...

Im not so sure.

I think she wants to be a trendsetter for women, and on the USSC she would just be another woman in the court's history.

My guess is she either she tries to get on Obama's ticket to be the first woman VP, or she works towards becoming the first woman to become Senate Majority Leader.

Or she just retires after her term is up in the Senate to make lots of money with books and speaking engagements.

Considering that the members of the SC are perhaps the most powerful people in the country if not the world, and get appointed for life. In reality an appointment to the Supreme Court could be a step UP from being President for her. But I can see where you're coming from.

24. My suggestion was in NO WAY meant in a condescending manner
I meant it sincerely and I have suggested it before. If Hillary Clinton REALLY wants to mold and shape society, the Supreme Court is the place to be. I think it is a much more powerful position than a mere presidency which can only last 8 years at most.

Hillary is a youthful 60 - she could get at minimum 15 years of influence and probably more. I don't think their schedule is all that taxing and in fact, that's another matter all together.

President, AG, any other job.

The SCOTUS needs to stay clear of politicians for a bit. The last thing we need is added "activist judge" BS to further erode respect for the Court. The public already has a healthy disdain for the Court - ANY politician would just add to it.

There are plenty of qualified JUDGES of all sexes, races, etc that we could put on the Court and also plenty of valuable positions Clinton could fill.

Why...because she's not a judge? Earl Warren wasn't a judge when President Eisenhower named him to be Chief Justice...and I think we can all agree that Warren was one of the greatest Chief Justices in the history of the Supreme Court.

Hillary is perfectly qualified to be on the Court.

I've thought that if she's not destined to be President, she should be on the Supreme Court.

She would be on the Court for decades...and she would, indeed, be our voice on the Court for abortion, gay rights, constitutional issues, the environment. And I would love to see her tangle with the likes of Supreme Asshole Scalia. She would be more than a match for him.

I would be thrilled with a Supreme Court Justice Hillary Clinton.
