Latest Polls Has Kerry Beating Bush in Ohio

By Blue Dog Rising

“Ohio, Ohio, Ohio” is THE battleground state for 2004, says Tim Russert of NBC and scores of other pundits. So what are we Ohioans thinking after the Democratic primary season and two weeks of brutal battling in the air and ground wars?

Senator John Kerry leads George W. Bush 45 to 41 percent in Ohio as of yesterday with four percent for “others” and 10 percent “not sure,” according to the latest Rasmussen Reports poll.

Moreover, only 32 percent of Ohioans give Bush “good or excellent” ratings for his handling of the economy while 47 percent in Ohio rank him “poor” and 18 percent give him a “fair” rating.

Bush ratings for “handling the economy” are a little better nationwide with 41 percent giving him “good or excellent” reviews and 42 percent ranking him “poor” nationwide. That is an improvement for Bush since the primaries ended. Rasmussen notes that, “It is possible that it will take a bit longer in states like Ohio where the Democratic competition actually took place.”

Right… and the fact that Ohio has lost more jobs than the other states under Bush doesn’t help Dubya much either.

Rasmussen is noteworthy because (1) it is the latest statewide poll on Ohio and (2) it is highly respected on Wall Street for its sensitivity to economic and consumer trends. Rasmussen polls Americans every night and boasts on its web site (www.RasmussenReports.com) of “developing the world's largest database of Investor Class survey data and are building the markets’ most extensive trend spotting tool.”

Blogger Blue Dog Rising may be better known to some of you as Brian Usher, a self-described "scarred veteran of 30 years in America's political wars...either fighting in the trenches or observing from the press planes."

5. Personally, I ignore Rasmussen's rhetoric. But, not their polls.
I tend not to ignore any of the polls, themselves, unless a specific poll is out of line with most of the rest of them.

3. Lets keep in mind....that Ohio is a must win state
for the Presidency. This field must be peppered with democratic grassroot efforts.
