30,000 people at Obama rally in Austin?!
http://blog.texansforobama.com/

Austin, we did it again. We might have just pulled off the biggest rally in the country...again! And this time, we had only 24 hours notice. Incredible!

We'll never know the exact number of people who came to downtown Austin tonight to cheer on the next President of the United States. But no doubt, it was a Texas-sized rally!

We had 6,000 people in the holding pen near the stage. We had about 15,000 more people stretching south down Congress Ave, and another 10,000 stretching east up 11th Street. The crowd was so big that we had to put up a giant jumbotron on 10th and Congress so that people could see Barack. Our campaign headquarters is at 9th & Congress, and the crowd stretched all the way back to our office. Unbelievable.

Thanks to all our volunteers who have been working hard since 4:00pm to make this rally a success. This people-powered campaign has inspired a new generation of activists, and we're going take back the White House in 2008.

We'll post pics soon.

Wow...

And I don't want to lose the election this fall.

And, to date, that's where the party is headed.

Just because you don't like my message, you don't have to personally attack me.

I am taking issue with the candidate, but no one on the board (except the freeper infiltrators)

And I know enough to know that the pukes want BHO in the fall.

55. That's your opinion, not fact, and I think you're wrong.
I think for the party to lose the GE, HRC would have to be the nominee. That opinion is shared by a whole lot of other people. I believe Obama will handily win the GE.

My opinion isn't fact either, and I don't pretend it is like you're pretending yours is. The only real difference is that the numbers make my opinion a far more likely scenario than yours.

People LIKE Obama - a picture is worth 1000, 10,000, maybe 30,000 words. In all my life, and I'm not all that young, I've never seen anything like it. Those people VOTE. 10, or is it 11, primaries now show that. My own 27 year old child has never voted in a primary before, but she did this time. I've never voted in a primary before, but I did this time.

It's too bad that your candidate isn't winning, but you really need to, in her words "get real". The arrogance of insisting that you know better than SO many people is something you should probably work on.

Hillary Clinton would get the repuke vote out like no one else. Maybe, just maybe, you're not the smartest person in the world. Maybe all of the people who support Obama want a Dem to win the GE, and maybe they might be just as bright as you are, or perhaps, even brighter. I'm sure you think that's not possible, but really, it is.

Maybe your post shows that you have made it personal between you and her.

But that's none of my business.

Maybe it's cool to stick the knife in on a post - happens all the time here. No biggie.

But I do know this.

I am and have been heavily involved in the party at a local/regional/state level and there is no enthusiasm for him here - in a blue state.

It's going to be tough to get people out door-to-door in the fall. That's just the way it is.

I smell the Nixon Landslide on 1972.

Do you honestly think Hillary has a distinct advantage over Obama in Michigan?

If Romney was the Republican nominee, I would have been afraid the rethugs would take Michigan. I think we will have a fight on our hands in that state, but both Obama and Hillary will win it in the general election.

For Mrs Clinton:

Gov. Jennifer Granholm (MI)
Hon. John Cherry (Lt. Gov)(MI)
Sen. Debbie Stabenow (MI)
Rep. Sander Levin (MI)
DNC Joel Ferguson (MI)
Rep. Dale Kildee (MI)
Rep. John Dingell (MI)

That's pretty much the head of the state party except for Carl.

An Obama v. McCain match up doesn't bode well for Democrats in Michigan.

McCain won here in 2000 against Bush and lost in the primaries to Mitt, but some cross-overs went to Mitt, too (to mess with the pukes).

For Obama, it will be extremely tight.

Clinton and Gore both won the Tri-County areas of Detroit (but Macomb County is increasingly Republican now) - Wayne County may go to Obama and Oakland County may split. And along the I-75 corridor, to the North, Dems usually do well. But that all can be easily cancelled out by the upper state vote (predominantly and historically Republicans who are fed up with Jennifer).

Couple that with what I am hearing, and it will not be a given for Obama here in the fall to say the least.

Mrs. Clinton would definitely have a better time of it.

Obama's going to win Virginia, Colorado, and Missouri, which would cancel out a Michigan loss.

Of course, Obama's going to win Michigan too, and re-energize the Democratic party in this country possibly to its highest point since FDR. But you'll have the internet to keep you company!

76. An "honest" assessment of "what will happen" is by definition impossible.
An "honest" person would admit that he or she cannot see the future.

The fact is that you have no idea what's going to happen; you merely like to tweak and needle Obama supporters.

That's fine as a hobby; I would simply ask you not to make it your calling, however.

85. What no one here understands is that IF Republicans do that they lose the right to vote in R races
We have more than just the presidential choice to vote on. We have important state and local issues being decided on March 4th. Some counties have contested sheriffs races, there's county attorneys, constables, district attorneys, etc.

Most voters don't want to give up a chance to vote in the very important local races just to smite Hillary.

Take me for instance. Since I'm voting with the Democratic ballot I don't get to vote on our new sheriff. It's only on the Republican ballot because all we have are Republicans running for that position.

Metal detectors, electronics were checked. Screeners were TSA. There were Secret Service and police around, but it didn't seem oppressive.

Beyond 100 yards, there was a section that did not have to pass through the metal detectors. I have no idea what security was like back there. I went through security to get closer.

36. He's drawing general election crowds in the primaries
It makes me very happy to see what he might be able to do in Pennsylvania and Ohio come the general election if he is nominated. :)

43. That's mind boggling.
The only thing Hillary could get 30,000 people to is an announcement of her withdrawal from the race.

51. Somebody should tell the UT Newspaper to Shove it.
They bitched that Obama had ignored Austin. Maybe they should check Obama's schedule before they write such Bullshit in their bitter Endorsement of Hillary.

78. But will they be back in November? Where have they been the last eight years?
Edited on Sat Feb-23-08 12:13 PM by RestoreGore
Easy to get dragged into the hype and the "excitement" of the moment. Whole different story once the rallies are over. And if all these people want change, where thehell have they been the last eight years? Why aren't they out in the streets protesting this damn war? What bs.

79. Wow, I think that's a record
I think that's the biggest number I've heard of so far at an Obama rally.

Was Kerry even drawing crowds that big in October of 2004?
