League Of Conservation Voters Rates McCain Zero On Environment

But surprisingly, Hillary Clinton finishes first out of three (Clinton, Obama, McCain) with a 73, which is still unacceptable. However, I knew McCain was a phony when it came to voting on the bills that were most important to the environment. The Republicans think they are going to put him up to now debate global warming / the climate crisis so he looks like he cares about it... well, this proves otherwise to me along with his plans for a "hundred years war" in Iraq. However, Democrats simply must do better than this as well in showing they really care and in not missing so many environmental votes if they really do. I'm disappointed that neither Clinton nor Obama could even rate above 80. And perhaps the "nuclear" issue that so many seem to ignore or accept is also a reason why. How can you run effectively on the environment when your platform is not much different from the Republicans?

1. It's then no wonder Al Gore didn't endorse any of them...
None of their plans are adequate enough to address the climate crisis as it needs to be now.

2. And also, the lack of response to this will prove Al Gore right about not running...
It would seem that people on the whole really don't care about this crisis if it hasn't touched them, and that it is just not considered important enough still in a political campaign that is more about ego than issues... but that thinking this year WILL be detrimental to the future sustainability of this planet. So glad he didn't run in this crap.

3. kicking since this is more important than some of the fluff that passes for conversation
John McCain was rated ZERO on the environment by the League of Conservation Voters. But I bet the Democratic "nominee" of this party will not even use that to their advantage because the party elitists will determine again what they can or cannot talk about. But then, I suppose if the Democratic nominee does talk about it against McCain it won't make much difference anyway since they are so similiar. And I say, both parties ignore this at their peril. Many more people are seeing the environment and climate change as the defining crisis of the 21st century and want it discussed with real action taken. So if the Democrats do not address this aggressively in the general election, I will sincerely think of not voting anymore on the federal level and will work to hold the feet of president to the fire regardless of party.

4. From the article:
WASHINGTON - Republican Sen. John McCain may warm the hearts of environmentalists with his call to urgently address global warming, but he didn't fare too well before the League of Conservation Voters on Thursday, earning a zero score on Senate votes the group sees as important for the environment.

The League, which annually ranks members of Congress based on their pro-environment votes, said that McCain was absent on every one of the 15 votes the group used to compile its 2007 ranking as he campaigned for the GOP presidential nomination.

Absenteeism also drove down the score for Democratic presidential contenders, Sens. Barack Obama of Illinois and Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York.

Clinton received a 73 percent ranking, casting "pro-environment" votes 11 times. Obama was at 67 percent with 10 pro-environment votes. But Clinton and Obama each missed four of the 15 votes tracked by the group, driving down their scores compared to previous years.

McCain was among seven senators given a zero score, meaning they were absent or voted against the environmental position on all of the issues being tracked. The votes ranged from approval for an increase in automobile fuel economy and imposing new taxes on oil companies to offshore oil development and prioritizing flood-control projects.
