Just saw a Bush ad from 2000...

Just saw a Bush ad from 2000...

Just thought I'd mention this:

I have over 200 VHS tapes that I made when I last had cable and a VCR. I have atleast a couple dozen Sunday Fox lineup tapes from 1999 and 2000 - Simpson, X Files etal. I would switch over to the "Practice" (NBC) at 10 (PST) and tape that also and that's when I saw it. This is a new episode so it had to have aired in Sep or Oct after he won the nom.

Here is the ad verbatim,

Man's voice: "As Governor, he took on the education establishment and demanded high standards, phonics, and charter schools."

Woman's voice: "He fought trial lawyers over lawsuit abuse and beat them."

Man's voice: "While Washington was deadlocked, he passed a patient's bill of rights.

Woman's voice: "He challenged the status quo and reformed welfare, strengthened juvenile justice laws, and cut taxes by 3 million dollars. Governor George W. Bush, ..."

Man's voice "...a reformer with results. He will restore integrity and values to the White House."

I watched the show (The Practice) for the next 30 minutes and didn't see one Gore ad.

The episode itself was about the defendant screwing over the lawyers and one of the DAs expressing himself in the light that he was a crusader against the "bad bad" defense lawyers - as a side note,

1. Gore didn't run ads in California either, but Bush did
aren't you in washington state ? as long as the gore campaign's internal polls and other polls showed gore leading the state there was no need to spend funds there. the bush campaign has much more money that they can spend on more places. gore's campaign was more limited. and al gore ended up winning california and washington state.

3. Can't you run advertising on ALL NBC stations...

by advertising on the NBC network rather than on each individual affiliate. In other words, by running an ad during a first run episode of a hit TV series like "The practice" they could literally canvas the country during a high volume television watching time. Sure it would cost cash, but it would be worth it by advertising on a high numbers show like "The Pratcice"

4. well
al gore did still end up winning california and washington state anyways. i don't think 1 ad would have made much difference considering the amount of ads bush was running. the money would be better spent in states where the candidates are close.

7. I agree. Bush probably did...

curious though to know whether Gore thought his state was such a win-win that he decided not to advertise - it is HIS home state and theoretically he could consider it like Washington State and California and not worthy of spending the money.

Anyone know?

2. "Reformer with Results"
HA! that's like "compassionate conservative"

After McCain trounced Bush in New Hampshire, on a reform platform, the Bush/Rove team came back in South Carolina with that slogan.

Bush has never been compassionate, & he sure ain't no reformer!
