94. You'd have to watch the debate to get that. Most SNL people probably didn't
so between that and Tina fey openly shilling for Clinton, you have it coming across that the media loves Obama and has given him the benefit of the doubt in the last debate which is FAR from the truth!!!

Obama people, the fix is in. You see the media boosting Hillary today. From showing her tirade a million times to talking about Tavis Smiley even though black leaders agreed with Obama's decision on the leadership conference, etc... YOu will note that there was zero media coverage of all the Clinton attack mailers in response to her tiraded today.

I am so afraid that once again, we will not have a decent candidate to vote for come November.
The powers that be want the Clintons and I'm afraid they will do everything they can to get them.

Its going to be no holds barred going after Obama the next few weeks.

45. Oh please, I just ate.
He's VERY much a typical politician, and he's a mere mortal.

This all gives me a very bad feeling: such irrational adulation and ignoring of his faults and mistakes does not bode well. It's simply human nature in play here, and having flown so very high, he's bound to have an Icarus moment at the hands of the unwashed.

It's great to sense such enthusiasm as he engenders, but so very much of it is baseless.

He's an okay guy when compared to most other politicians, but he's no altruistic beacon of sublimity, and those who insist he is set us all up for a big fall.

A little bit of cool rationality and perspective are in order.

91. Yeah, but never THIS extreme
There were Deaniacs and Clarkizoids who brooked no dissent and spoke in heroic terms, but NEVER in such grandiose and even religious hyperbole. The most nauseating of the Clintonites have scoffed and jeered with inevitability, but there's never been such a sense of other-worldliness or historic grandeur spouted about her; she's been hagiographed as an exemplary mortal, but that's about all.

This current wave of rapture scares the snot out of me; that's the kind of blinkered recklessness that dismisses tactical missteps and strides forth with nothing short of crusading zeal.

Lest we forget human nature, it's pretty obvious that the more irrational and exhuberant the love for an individual, the more vindictive and fired-up the opposition, and the sheer giddiness of some of his support just invites derision. The reactionaries will be hot out of the blocks the moment he's confirmed as the nominee or nominee-apparent, and it's easy to characterize lefties as dangerous, impractical and deluded children. It's REALLY easy to do that when we're actually acting that way.

Sure, other candidates have sparked extremes, but the worst of this guy's accolytes take the cake, the bakery and the truck that delivers the loaves and fishes.

62. It is funny for that reason....
It pulled the lid off what everyone sees happening, but no one can quite articulate--and it did it with humor. No one wants to hear a scold, but the same message, delivered with humor, RESONATES.

Mindless adulation, not much substance.

You know the saying, the truth shall set you free?

See if you can catch it again--it really was rather 'liberating.'

This is the best show I've seen in a while.

I remember, eons ago, laughing at one that included a NAVY commercial that started out "Port of Call...Bayonne, New Jersey...." and showed the "glamorous" life of a Navy Sailor. That one made me laugh like hell, too, and this sketch was as good!

36. The skit was hilarious but
it's a shame they don't have any black people who can play a black person.

When I heard earlier this week that they were scrambling to find a black actor to play Obama, I thought, "If you had bothered to include more than one black person a year on your show, maybe this wouldn't be a problem."

so they don't do any skits that would need any black cast members. They usually carry at least 2, but Finesse Mitchell was dropped before last season because he never got in any skits.

Ever since Tim Meadows left it's been like that.

71. The black comedians tend to move on to more lucrative, less physically taxing gigs after awhile
Who can blame them? If you can make more for doing less, it's crazy not to...

Tracy Morgan, Kenan Thompson, (who is still with the cast), Maya Rudolph (whose mom was the wonderful, late, great Minnie Ripperton), Finesse Mitchell...those are the more recent members, so they haven't been without black/biracial ensemble players. I remember the days of Garrett Morris doing "News for the Deaf" and that was many years back!

I don't think they ever worry about matching race to character, though--otherwise you wouldn't see Maya doing Donatella Versace.

86. Are you a total ass? Lazy BLACKS????
The black actors tend to be overused in SNL sketches--they get more airtime, more sketches, more characters, more costume changes, and they BURN OUT. The up side is, they also get more EXPOSURE, so they're offered other gigs, either TV (Tracy Morgan, eg) or film (Eddie Murphy et al) that pay more and don't require that week in/week out grind.

You are really SICK. LEAPING to a "worst case" conclusion--did you strain something with that massive leap?

You couldn't do a better job of getting it completely fucking wrong if you tried.

But then...ASSuming will do that to you. The operative syllable being ASS.

99. That's not an excuse. You can say the same thing about the white cast members but they still manage
to hire plenty of white people each year. And the black cast members have generally left because they don't get any airtime and the skits they are given often just have them behave like buffoons.

They just don't bother hiring black actors. Period. One or two black actors per season - actors whom they hardly give any skits or airtime to. It's disgraceful.

97. They haven't had a black woman cast member in a couple of decades
Edited on Sun Feb-24-08 09:40 AM by EffieBlack
It's nauseating to see the one black actor they use each year having to dress in drag whenever a black woman character is called for.

Sad.

76. I thought it was hilarious.
And true. People see reality through humor faster than they do when they're being lectured.

And Tina Fey's Weekend Update (Bitch is the New Black) was right on the money, too!

102. With all the great black comedians SNL has featured ...
over the past 33 years, you would think they could get somebody to play Sen. Obama.

Garrett Morris
Eddie Murphy
Tim Meadows
Tracy Morgan

Just to name a few. I'm sure I'm leaving some out, but I just woke up. Tracy Morgan may actually be INSANE, but he is the funniest man on the planet, IMHO. Every time I see a "Brian Fellows" segment, I laugh so hard I can't breathe. Kenan Thompson (sp?) is about 2x times too big to portray the rail-thin Senator from Illinois, not to mention the fact that I'll never forgive him for what he did to Fat Albert ... ugh.

I haven't watched SNL in a while, I'll have to youtube that clip from last night....
