This year's "Al Gore is a Liar" mantra is....
"John Kerry is a flip-flopper."

And I predicted it six months ago.

I knew that Kerry's votes would get him into trouble. I knew that the Bushistas would nail him on every inconsistency, and the media would take up the cry, and before you knew it, John Kerry would be branded as a politically craven, no-principles flipflopper. The "liar" bit is yet to come.

Now, I'm not saying Howard Dean would have fared any better. Dean would have been "crazy", "insane", "mean", or "angry." Edwards would have been a "trial lawyer." Clark would have been "a Clintonite."

It really wouldn't have mattered who got the nomination.

But you'd think after all these years, the Democrats would get the picture that this is how the Republicans operate, that the media allows them to do it, and yet still -- here we are, playing defense. And the convention hasn't even happened yet.

Does this party WANT to lose?

1. YES, IT IS ALREADY IN MOTION
I'm not sure if it will work. Bush has done flip-flopping that is actually KILLING PEOPLE (nation-building comes to mind). Kerry needs to hit back HARD on the fact that Bush is so stubborn he stays on course EVEN WHEN HE HAS BEEN PROVEN WRONG OVER AND OVER AGAIN.

2. So when's he going to do it?
By the time Kerry gets back from Idaho, the phrase "flip-flopper" will be inscribed into the brains of swing voters.

I am so sick of watching this party make the same mistakes over and over and over and over again...

We can sit here and talk about Bush's corruption and lies till the cows come home. If no one believes it, and the Republicans can continue to make their lies about our nominee stick (especially when our nominee keeps digging his own grave), what does it matter what the truth is?

14. I am with you, hack
we've got to be very, very agressive and constantly point out what a bunch of crooked liars Bush Inc. is. Kerry did good when he did not back down from saying that but Democrats - not just Kerry - need to get moving NOW. Kerry cannot do it on his own and without the help of the corporate whore media we have to HELP OURSELVES.

3. I heard the 'Dean meme' this morning.
One of the marching morons (I forget which one and which show) said about Dean:
Anger is not a plan.

I'm sure that would have been SOP in a Dean-Bush* campaign.

BTW, Weld tried this flip-flop crap against JK in '96. It didn't work.

I suspect that BushCo wasn't prepared to run against JK until now. They had to act fast; therefore, they turned to Weld.

4. Is Kerry a flip-flopper?
Let's ask outselves that before we consider a defensive strategy.

17. Did You See Jon Stewart A While Back?
He had dueling clips of Bush-

One Bush saying "I don't believe in Nation Building"
Other Bush saying "We need to rebuild Iraq"

It was essentially Bush running against himself.

The crowd laughed like Hell! Thank God Bush is toast.

6. Bush's flip flops
Bush's flip flops

So Bush has a site somewhere that tracks Kerry's "flip-flops". Reader TK probably spent three seconds coming up with this list of Bush flip flops. It's not like they're hard to find:

Bush is against campaign finance reform; then he's for it.

Bush is against a Homeland Security Department; then he's for it.

Bush is against a 9/11 commission; then he's for it.

Bush is against an Iraq WMD investigation; then he's for it.

Bush is against nation building; then he's for it.

Bush is against deficits; then he's for them.

Bush is for free trade; then he's for tariffs on steel; then he's against them again.

Bush is against the U.S. taking a role in the Israeli Palestinian conflict; then he pushes for a "road map" and a Palestinian State.

Bush is for states right to decide on gay marriage, then he is for changing the constitution.

Bush first says he'll provide money for first responders (fire, police, emergency), then he doesn't.

Bush first says that 'help is on the way' to the military ... then he cuts benefits

Bush-"The most important thing is for us to find Osama bin Laden. Bush-"I don't know where he is. I have no idea and I really don't care.

Bush claims to be in favor of the environment and then secretly starts drilling on Padre Island.

Bush talks about helping education and increases mandates while cutting funding.

Bush first says the U.S. won't negotiate with North Korea. Now he will

Bush goes to Bob Jones University. Then say's he shouldn't have.

Bush said he would demand a U.N. Security Council vote on whether to sanction military action against Iraq. Later Bush announced he would not call for a vote

Bush said the "mission accomplished" banner was put up by the sailors. Bush later admits it was his advance team.

Bush was for fingerprinting and photographing Mexicans who enter the US. Bush after meeting with Pres. Fox, he's against it.

You guys want to add to the list?

7. "Bush's flip flops"
And don't forget:

Bush say's he's a "uniter not divider", then he unites the dividers.

Bush says he "trusts people, not Washington", then trusts only the people in Washington.

8. This is so incredible
...to me when one considers Dubya's record of doing the exact opposite of what he says or simply saying things that aren't true. Changing ones opinion on things is not 'flip flopping'.....its the mature, adult thing to do when one considers all the facts. The problem with the Bush Administration is one is never sure what they are endorsing until after the fact because the facts up front were lies to begin with!!!! Heck, people in their own party are flip flopping away from some of Bush's policies.

9. Sort Of
I think "flip-flopper" is only one part of the case they're making, but the larger case is about being "Untrustworthy." That goes to national security issues, and FEAR is the great campaign platform of the RNC.

13. I said when Kerry announced they would use this handle..
against him. Other people said it too. It's not really media-driven. That's all I'm going to say on the matter in this forum. God forbid the media should troll and print something damaging to Kerry by me.

18. Yes, and the only way to counter is to point out how Bush is
Edited on Sun Mar-21-04 02:12 PM by Gloria
not only a flip flopper himself, but an outright liar.

"Humble foreign policy" becomes the arrogance we have now

All the underfunded initiatives--"All talk, but then no action" which is like a flip-flop

You get the idea...The material is there....The Kerry campaign should get off their butts and start hammering this home in every speech and in every ad.

Kerry can get up there and speechify til the cows come home. This campaign will not be about policy, it will be about calling Bush out for what he is....a liar and a crook. Kerry doesn't need to soften that message...he just needs to constantly point out all the many ways in which this is true!! Remember, frame everything as if the electorate is in third grade....words, then concrete images of Bush lies...ie...on the environment....stats on new asthma cases along with video of gasping children.....

Go for the jugular.
