Key Maryland Hillary supporter conceeds: Obama will be the Democratic nominee
Now we're seeing Hillary's own "base", her key supporters on the ground, peeling away & throwing in the towel.

Too bad Hillary appears to be too steeped in denial to do the honorable thing and listen to her own supporters,
rather than desperately lashing out vindictively against Obama.

Dispatch from Maryland

Kathleen Kennedy Townsend, a supporter of Sen. Hillary Clinton, spoke at St. Mary's college in Maryland last week and offered a very frank assessment of the state of the Clinton campaign. A Political Wire reader emails a summary:

"Townsend said she expects Sen. Barack Obama to win the Democratic presidential nomination and that Clinton is finished. She believed that the Wisconsin results demonstrated that Clinton's coalition (voters over the age of 50 and those earning less than $50,000) had fallen apart. When asked why the Clinton campaign had failed, Ms. Townsend had plenty of opinions and she placed significant blame on Bill Clinton and his racially tinged statements in South Carolina. She also felt that Clinton made a tactical error in making "experience and inevitability" her central campaign themes. Townsend argued that Clinton had little more experience than Obama and far less than candidates such as Senators Dodd and Biden. Additionally, making the inevitability claim hurt her when she lost Iowa... Townsend then lamented Clinton's decision to go negative and question Obama's readiness. She said that she called the Clinton campaign and advised that they 'go out on a high note' but her advice was politely dismissed."

3. Her brother RFK jr. supports Hillary too.
Which I've never understood, unless they bought in early on the "inevitability" presumption.

8. I think they bought it lock stock and smoking
barrel. I hadn't realized the depth of that inevitability meme when I heard RFKjr endorsed hilary and now the ones who endorsed Obama early are lookin' really courageous.

12. I loved seeing that video of Ted singing the song in spanish at recent Obama rally -nt
It strikes me as odd that RFK's kids would be for Hillary, when Obama's much closer to the RFK legacy IMHO.

19. as is Teddy and Caroline .. thing is...
I find it odd that RFK's kids support Hillary, who's less aligned with RFK's legacy than Hillary IMO...
esp. since Teddy, Caroline, Rory and Ethel are supporting Obama ...must make for some interesting
discussion at their family gatherings.

4. Sounds like she thought it out and gave them sound advice.
It's a shame Clinton would rather go out in flames with a little grace, then to take advice from her cherished supporters.

10. This, plus I heard within her own national campaign, her supporters are even spit
on the question of seating FL and MI delegates at the convention.

21. Being part of the Kennedy clan may be part of the reason she's "seeing the light" ..
since the Kennedy's all now are supporting Obama, except for her and RFKjr.

32. I was shocked as he said the way he sees it...
...it isn't even close anymore. That was just before Wisconsin. Even beyond the enormous momentum, he saw from the Potomac Primaries that Obama was dipping well into her base. He's a die-hard Clinton supporter (both of them) and thinks Hillary nearly walks on water.
