You can call it whatever you want but it's a fact.
HRC did not do what she had to do last night. I met with a group of very accomplished, busy, engaged women tonight and they were not impressed with HRC's performance last night. These are basically Republican women who run their own businesses. They basically think she came off as a whiner and he came off as a statesman. They are going for Obama. I pointedly asked if they had thought about Obama's race (we're in NH, by the way) and they said that it had never entered their minds. That is very important! They see Obama and not a black man, but as a leader and I suspect that some of these gals have seen about 3 black people in their entire lives. The most interesting part of the conversation tonight was that they basically said: "we don't know if he can really deliver...we hope and pray he can...but we're willing to take the chance." Amazing!

This is a report from the ground in New Hampshire.

2. It is really amazing, isn't it? Maybe Hillary miscalculated the
capacity that women have for hope and the intollerance they have for whining.

3. I can't explain it, but they are incredibly not for HRC
Not just "no thanks", but real deep-seated dislike for her.

But they think BO could get their vote if he continues to inspire.

10. You said Repub women. It seems Repbs have a built in hate
for any Clinton. They never really check out the facts they think they 'know' everything without checking for themselves.

18. Well, here in Vermont
I only know one republican. All of my friends are progressive dems. All of them are voting for Obama, and no one has expressed any hate for Clinton.

8. Think about the types of women that make up Hillary's base
not terribly well-educated, over 50, probably people who have worked blue-collar jobs their entire lives. Maybe that message resonates with them. But it doesn't for some of the rest of us and it should have dawned on her and her clueless campaign managers by now taht she has to appeal to a far broader audience than she is connecting with and last night's debate did nothing to advance that.

4. I was an Edwards supporter who reluctantly came over to HRC
Mainly because I thought she was a known quantity and I believed (and still do), she would be up to the job. I thought his experience was just too lacking. But I decided to watch the debate last night with as open a mind as I could, and I thought that he looked much more a leader. Whether he can do the job or not is another matter, but I do believe he's smart and diplomatic - something that's been sadly lacking for nigh on 8 years.
It's all perception when someone runs for president. We all know the story of the 1960 debate between JFK and Nixon. People who heard it on the radio gave the debate to NIxon, but those who saw his pasty sweaty face on TV (he was recovering from flu), compared him to the tanned beautiful JFK and said he was the loser.
Hillary unfortunately didn't look as good.
I hope he's up to the job. (But I do know Republicans would walk barefoot over hot coals to vote against Hillary).

5. I watched the debate twice last night
and took a break from DU to get my mind clear on what these two were really saying. While I like Hillary (and God knows I've taken up for them) and I DO think she's qualified on merit and experience, it became blatantly clear last night that she allows her emotions to dominate her judgment. I think Bush does the same thing, so it's not a "woman" thing. (here they come...)
Everytime something doesn't go the way she thinks it should go, she stomps and shouts a "how dare they," not realizing that others have a dog in this fight too. I can't stand that scolding tone she takes to belittle and intimidate her opponent.

Whether people want to admit or not, Obama does come across as a statesman and he seems to have come into his own. He has more intelligence, experience (at least he's been to foreign country unlike Bush before he became pres.) and calm demeanor than Bush ever did. It's such a stark difference. We want a fighter not a screamer.

7. can I ask you if you are sure that
you think Hillary lets her emotions dominate her judgement, or if she is ..... (I don't know how to say this) ... or if she is just more ? intense? in a somewhat agressive way?

I have real issues with this part of Hillary myself. It ISN'T because she is a woman- (I am too) there are many people both male and female that have that kind of ....intensity... that just doesn't work as well a leadership role (in my experience).

I also have a very difficult time with leaders who use the 'shame' meme- and sarcastic mocking- these can actually abusive behaviours,( something that people often learn through having suffered it themselves)

Hillary's policies and experience are reasonable. Her intelligence, energy and focus are exceptional. Still, personality does figure into this more than most of us realize, or like to admit.

My question (in case I've lost you in my babbling) given what you said, do you think that she makes decisions based on emotional responses, or that her strong emotions are sometimes very visible, and seem to overpower her message. ??

I'm asking because I'm interested.

thanks

peace~

9. very interesting questions...
I think that her "emotional" responses are visible and that overpowers her message. I think she's actually been pretty measured about what she's saying every step of the way.
