Obama is one marshmallow, Clinton is two!
There is an experiment you do with little kids... you sit them at a table and put one marshmallow in front of them.. you tell them you must leave and if they do not eat the marshmallow before you come back, you will give them another one and they will have two... it tells about the child's impulse control.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deferred_gratification

Obama is the one marshmallow... his supporters get excited and want to jump on the bandwagon...

Clinton is two marshmallows.. she is worth the wait and in the end you get so much more...

Obama supporters claim he has momentum and will bring lots of young voters out for him.. but will they stay and will they be there for the long run? Obama is a Carter type president... nice guy and full of positive messages but not strong and not ready to handle the tough issues!

Hillary has the support of true democrats, working families, seniors who always vote, Hispanics who are the key to winning in many swing states... and she will keep the party strong by being a real leader who has the experience to get the job done! we need to not only win in 2008 but we need to have a strong president... not one who is learning as he goes... we know what happens to the party when the president is weak... they lose seats in congress in two to four years... Hillary can maintain the strength we now have. do not be fooled into thinking we are unstoppable! she is ready to lead. she has many military leaders who support her... we need to end this war and bring stability around the world... and restore our standing with other countries... we can't allow the republicans to call our party weak on National Security any longer! she is for "universal" health care... a core value of the democrat party! she is the one to get it done...

Hillary Clinton - worth the wait and double the pleasure!!!

I feel strongly about this.

Kids shouldn't eat them, or wait for twice the number to eat them, or anything of the sort.

Rather, they should be outdoors climbing trees, running through the hose, and building treehouses.

Here it is! Home made Hillarys! And from Martha Stewart no less...

INGREDIENTS
2 1/2 tablespoons unflavored gelatin
1 1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 cup light corn syrup
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons pure vanilla extract
Confectioners' sugar (for dusting)

Combine gelatin and 1/2 cup cold water in the bowl of an electric mixer with whisk attachment. Let it stand 30 minutes.

Combine granulated sugar, corn syrup, salt and 1/2 cup of water in a small heavy saucepan; place over low heat and stir until sugar has dissolved. Wash down sides of pan with a wet pastry brush to dissolve sugar crystals.

Clip on a candy thermometer; raise heat to high. Cook syrup without stirring until it reaches 244 degrees (firm-ball stage). Immediately remove pan from heat.

With mixer on low speed, slowly and carefully pour syrup into the softened gelatin. Increase speed to high; beat until mixture is very thick and white and has almost tripled in volume, about 15 minutes. Add vanilla; beat to incorporate.

Generously dust an 8 x 12-inch glass baking pan with confectioners' sugar. Pour marshmallow mixture into pan. Dust with confectioners' sugar; let stand overnight, uncovered, to dry out.

15. "not ready to handle the tough issues" Obama handled the "two marshmallows"
Edited on Sat Mar-01-08 10:56 PM by ProSense
and proved that they were fluff.

He even had Bill whining uncle today:

Rounding out a long day of campaigning across Northern Ohio on Friday, the former president told audiences in small college gyms that he's still adjusting to life as a candidate's surrogate rather than as the candidate. "I always have a little trepidation at these events, but I love doing this because Hillary campaigned for me from 1974 until I left the White House," he told an audience in Wooster. "She never ran for public office until 2000, so as you can see I'm still a few years behind I'm trying to make up."

At his fifth and final event in New Philadelphia, Clinton broke away from the podium and was a bit more candid on the subject. "She never held any elected office, until she was elected to the senate in New York in 2000," he said. "She was a public servant all her life, but has a very unusual life and I think one of the most interesting misconceptions that is put out there is that somehow she is typical politician and her opponent, who's been in a lot more elections, is different. She is a lifetime public servant, but a recent elected official, and a darn good one."

Obama has run in six elections in the past 12 years, including his state senate days and a run for congress against Bobby Rush. This is Clinton's third race, including her two senate wins.

Summary: Obama is more experienced at running a campaign and being an elected official.

18. I agree with you 100%.
One of the problems that I have with Obama is that so many of the primary votes he's getting, so I've heard, is coming from white males who intend to vote for McCain in November. It seems they hate Clinton so much and believe that she can win against McCain, that they want a black man whom they think can't win against a white man. I don't believe that is necessarily true, but if enough white people think that, then it will happen.

I don't care about the skin color and I appreciate both nominees, but I think Senator Clinton has the most knowledge and the ability to connect with the rest of the world as well as do a superb job for us.

Obama people are stuck in the excitement of the "now" and cannot see the long-term of the situation... they see the word marshmallow and laugh... it is an analogy... it requires deep thought to make the connection... not surprising Obama people think it funny!

it is a REAL stretch, and nothing in the "analogy" actually supports what the OP claims.

How about, somebody put a handful of marshmallows on a table in front of the kids and said don't touch them now, you can have them later. The, one by one, started taking them away. At the end of the hour, there were still a couple left.

Now, they're back, putting another handful on the table. Do the kids want to sit there and watch them all taken away again?

92. Last time out the Clintons promised a Democratic revival after
12 years of Reagan/Bush - and what we got was 2 years of Democratic control, followed by another 12 years of Republican congress, and that Democraticn leadership undermining the party through its DLC tactics, passing republican initiatives like DOMA, and NAFTA, and telecom deregulation - they laid it all out on the table then started taking it all back, saying "everything will be OK, but for now we will take away the rights of gays, and just for a while we will take away media responsibility, and it might not seem like much in the boom times so while you're distracted we will take away your manufacturing base and send it overseas..."

I'm not out to lunch. I can't fucking afford lunch.

a "shit" sandwich. Apparently you have and didn't enjoy it? I have posted several times and not once have I called your choice any nasty, uncalled for names. People who do this over and over on these posts really give me great concern about how mature they really are that they can't choose better ways to express themselves than by calling others names. It sounds so childish. Do you not know other ways to address your feelings that aren't offensive to others? Or do you care whom you offend? If the latter is your attitude, then I feel sorry for you. You have a lot to learn.

52. "Shit sandwich" is a phrase that means a really unpleasant thing to have to deal with.
Especially within the context of expecting/hoping for something better. For example, in 2000 Gore named Lieberman his VP candidate, thus serving a shit sandwich to the party's liberal base.

47. Bartcop's metaphor is "Let's Make a Deal"
I haven't always agreed with him, but he often has a lot of common sense:

"Have you kids ever seen an old game show called, 'Let's Make a Deal?'

Obama reminds me of that show.
America has a choice between the team that beat the Fascist dogs twice,
OR
they can have what's behind Door Number Two.

If you remember this show, sometimes the surprise behind the door was a new car
but sometimes there'd be a goat or maybe a pile of bricks or 20 gallons of milk.

Obama certainly may turn out to be the brand new car we hope he'll be,
but what if he turns out to be a goat?

Are we a nation of high stakes gamblers?
Are we willing to bet our future on what's behind Door Number Two?

(Monte Hall says: 'C'mon, gamble a little bit!
How bad could four more years of Republican rule be?')"

Neither Obama nor Clinton was my first choice (nor second, nor third...), and I didn't settle on Clinton until quite recently (I'm in Ohio). But at least with Clinton I feel like I know what I'm dealing with. Obama is a wild card as far as I'm concerned. No matter who wins the primary, though, I'll do all I can do get a Democrat in the White House.

62. I think you are mistaking Hillary for Bill.
I mean its like saying you know how Laura would run the country.

I actually think Laura might do a better job. I don't see how she could be worse than George.

91. I have been voting for (what i see) as the lesser of two evils since Raygun
I was young and naive once too. What turns me off nowadays is how fast a candidate goes to bed with the establishment. The analogies of people with fast shallow relationships and how they often turn bitter in the end somewhat applies here also. I lean Obama but the choice between a Democratic and other seems to be a no brainer.

75. Wouldn't Hillary be the first marshmallow though?
Since she was "on the table" first? The states without any impulse control held their primaries first and went for marshmallow #1 which was sitting on the table the longest (name recognition). The states that waited a little longer and held their primaries later have overwhelmingly picked marshmallow #2. :P

78. OB peeps are impulsive and lack the ability to foresee the future...
they are willing to "take the chance" and hope it is good...

HC peeps are not so easily tempted... and can see the benefits of the long-term...

I might bet that if you did some psychological testing... OB's peeps are impulsive... HC peeps are more rational...

86. Seriously though, which is more impulsive?
Choosing the candidate with name recognition who is already a "known quantity?" Or actually taking time to learn about the experience and positions of a lesser known candidate who has only recently emerged on the national political stage? You have it backwards.

Edited on Sun Mar-02-08 10:42 AM by dmesg
If either wins the nomination and the GE, he or she will be President in January 2009.

In what sense does supporting Senator Clinton require "waiting"? In what sense is supporting Senator Obama "immediate"?

Fluffy and full of air is she. Puffed up and sugar-coated. The bigger the marshmallow, the greater the number of calories. Should keep corporate lobbyists quite chubby for years to come.
