Does anyone in the media still refer to Bush as "popular"?

Remember how immediately post-9-11 Bush became a de facto "popular" president? Remember how we heard this endlessly for months?

Well, with his approval ratings down in the high 40's, I don't think this applies anymore.

Regardless, I STILL here commentators (all right-wingers though) refer to Bush as a "popular wartime president" and it bothers the hell out of me.

I think references to his popularity have dropped markedly, but they are still there (strangely enough). Anyone else still hearing this claim thrown out there?

If they say he IS a popular president, that's innacurate.

But that being said, every president has been popular at one time or another.

3. Interesting point! I've been seeing the trend go more towards

"...who describes himself as a wartime president", now that you mention it. One short step away from "controversial wartime president".

4. I think he described himself...

...not as a "wartime president," but as a "war president." The former is a C-in-C who leads the country during times of war, the latter is a yahoo whose only response to any situation is "Blow 'em up, hoss!"

Sounds like the first thing he's been accurate about in a long time.
