Anyone Seen today's anti Kerry ad -" WACKY "- re gas price and gas tax
Our friends in the Bush campaign, never ones to worry about nuance or truth, are on the air with a new television ad contending that Kerry has backed higher gasoline taxes 11 times and has supported a 50-cent-per-gallon tax increase that would cost the average family $657 a year, implying a bad response re gas prices.

The ad, titled "Wacky," casts Kerry's policies as a silent-movie comedy recalling the antics of the Keystone Kops.

One wonders if the media will feel any responsibility to explain on news shows by this is beyond exaggeration - and ignores Kerry's very real energy program.

Or Will they just pocket the ad dollars and say truth is not their problem?

1. Does
anyone here know what percentage of the price of a gallon of gas is federal tax? Also is there a Web site that shows by state the percentage of tax per gallon of gas?
Thanks

3. Yeah, that's it Bu$h, have everyone pissed about Gas Prices
that we've experienced since you've been in office, the highest Gas prices in history, not to mention, the Oil companies have also experienced the highest profits in history! Sure, I think Kerry's up for that debate, "BRING IT ON!"

You're turn Kerry...the accountability president won't even take responsibility for having the high gas prices in history. What exactly has Bush done for America then? Besides put us in debt, raised gas prices, moved jobs overseas, went to war in Iraq when it wasn't necessary at this point in time, raided social security, gave tax breaks to the rich, left many children way behind, declared war on civil rights, what exactly has this puppet head done other than sit in a chair and point his finger at Kerry or Clinton?

When Gas hits 2 bucks a gallon, Bush is OUT! Hey, why doesn't Kerry mention that Georgie boy gave Hummer owners a 100k tax break, Georgie LOVES gas guzzling big Texas style SUV's!

There's either two things happening here, either the repugs have totally lost their minds and are bringing up issues to bury themselves, or they've totally lost their minds and Bush is drinking again.

Bush gave Hummer owners a 100k tax break? Hadn't heard that but I'd love to see him get roasted on that if it were true.

5. Yes, of course.

Do you expect them to play fair? If yes, then I'm touched by your naivete... We should be hammering Bush on gas prices now, but I'm sure not seeing it. It's all Kerry's fault for raising gas taxes. That last sentence was meant to be a sarcastic joke, btw.

9. The media treats every Bush ad like a bigger news story than Clarke
Bush doesn't even need to buy ads, he should just send one out of the media every day - they will run it for free over and over again and talk about how great and true it is.

The bias in the U.S. media toward Bush is far worse than it was in 2000.

The right completely controls the U.S. media.

7. Well...
...did Kerry support a 50 cent per gallon gas tax increase?

If he did, he will just have to explain why and in what context.

If he did not, he can just make clear that Bush is a liar.

8. In a discussion on deficit reduction, 50 cents = 50 B, and has positive
environmental results via cut back in SUV's, dependance on mid-east.

But it was all discussion - and what he said was that he could see himself in favor of such a provision in a much larger bill.

It never reached that stage - no bill with that provision was ever introduced - so no vote was ever recorded.

So this makes him in favor of only using a gas tax to end the deficit?

God NO -

But our US Media will try to help the GOP sell that cartoon concept.

10. Tax break has Hummers rolling off lots and LINK

Buy a shiny new Hummer or a fully loaded Cadillac Escalade, then get a hefty tax deduction on the monster vehicle, all compliments of Uncle Sam.

Dozens of wide-eyed customers packed into the Valley's Hummer and Cadillac dealers on New Year's Eve to take advantage of a federal tax windfall allowing them to buy the oversize gas guzzlers and deduct the purchase from their 2003 tax bills.

Dealers said they were selling more than double the average daily number of the specialized vehicles, with much of the rush coming as their doors were set to close.

The deduction for business owners, approved in May by President Bush as part of his federal tax-cut package, gives a deduction of up to $100,000 for new or used vehicles that weigh more than 6,000 pounds. Aside from Hummers and Cadillacs, the choices ranged from the Dodge Durango and the Ford Expedition to the Lincoln Navigator and the GMC Yukon.

The deduction is available for tax years 2003, 2004 and 2005.

Dealers say the tax break encourages people to buy cars, which contributes to a healthy economy.

"Our customers are speaking to their accountants and making a good business move at the end of the year," said Greg Schamp, new car sales director of Coulter Cadillac and Oldsmobile in Phoenix. "It's a good time to be a Cadillac dealer."

11. I wish this would be all over the news...I was appalled when I heard it
Now you know why I'm outraged that he has the audacity to even mention GAS prices...he's directly involved in the increase and high consumption. Kerry needs to say this about Georgie.
