I just returned from the Bush Protest in Appleton, WI
He is speaking at our Performing Arts Center. There was a great turnout. I say about 800 to 1,000 people showed up. The police were real good to us and the crowd was loud and into it. It was 40 degrees and started to rain but the crowd stayed into it.It was all around a good protest.

13. AP reports hundreds of demonstrators turned out to protest...
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A36545-2004Mar30.html

Hundreds of anti-Bush demonstrators protested along his motorcade route, chanting, "Bush go home!" They held signs that read, "Bush: No Millionaire Left Behind" and "Help Create Jobs. Lay Off George Bush."

<>Lt. Gov. Barbara Lawton, a Democrat who supports Kerry, said Bush should address the loss of jobs since he took over the White House.

"Appleton, coincidentally, is the home of Harry Houdini," Lawton said. "We're wondering where the jobs disappeared to."

<>"George Bush again today blamed everybody but himself for the nation's poor economy," Kerry spokeswoman Stephanie Cutter said. "They have every excuse in the world for what's gone wrong and not a single solution to make it right. John Kerry has a plan to create 10 million jobs and put the economy back on track."

15. Yeah the PAC is right on College Ave.
Maybe two or three blocks down from the Richmond St. intersection. It went up in 2002. Gorgeous building, that Bush has now tainted with his stench.

6. Excellent!
It's nice to know at least 1000 other people detest him as much as I do. :) Were you even allowed close enough so he could appreciate the fact that there are people who want his ass out of office?

8. It was awesome
Easily close to 1,000 there at the protests' peak (it started to rain after Bush was already in mid-speech so the protest faded out a bit) but already the local paper is trying to spin it for Bush by lowering their estimates to 300-400 protestors which is BS.

Huge groups of people for every notable cause imaginable....

-Kerry Supporters
-Environmentalists
-GLBT Supporters
-Labor Workers
-Anti-War/Peace Activists
-Pro-Palenstinian Activists

Very large contingent of people from every cause.

Bush may have hid in his limo when he drove to the back of the Performing Arts Center, but he got an eyeful when he drove in front of us!

Not even putting my health at serious risk was going to stop me from getting Bush today (I have Pneumonia and we were out there several hours in 37 degree temps)...

14. It was great fun wasn't it?
Edited on Tue Mar-30-04 05:22 PM by Cheesehead
I was there, too. Maybe the best part was watching all of the Repugs freezing their asses off in the security line waiting for an hour+ to get into the PAC. We were having a lot more fun than they were for sure. Give me a B
Give me a U
Give me an S
Give me an H

What's that spell?

Liar!

12. The Police were real nice to us
The gave us as much room to roam as the SS would let them.

To poster above. Yes, The PAC is on Collage Ave. Where the 2 story parking ramp use to be. About 3-4 blocks from Richmond st.

16. The Media Whores at it again...
On the 6:00pm News on CBS and NBC they gave Bush's speech this lengthy segment featuring a mega glowing review and included making remarks about how beloved Bush was and the long standing ovations he received in the PAC (of course he's beloved, he only invited rich Republican campaign contributors). Then as if that wasn't bad enough...

There were maybe tops 20-25 Bush supporters at the protest and there were hundreds of us, yet somehow the Bush supporters were given more time on air than us and were given a chance to dismiss us as "uneducated kids who had signs made for us and were protesting for no reason" as NBC 26's report featured...

So much for Fair and Balanced... Even the local news is a whore for Bush.

17. I know RP
I knew they would ignore 800 people standing and screaming in the rain and cold so America will wake up. Everyone keep up the good fight, don't lose hope. Soon our voices will get SO LOUD they wont be able to ignore us anymore. I am 23 years old and i know this is my generations Vietnam and this is my generations Nixon. We will overcome!

BTW, i hope you don't get any sicker RP. Stay warm and have some soup :9

19. The media in Portland
ignored and minimized the anti-war protests until the numbers reached 10,000 or so. Then we were too big to ignore, especially on the weekend after the war started, when groups of people cycled onto I-5 to block traffic with their bicycles and staged a sitdown in the middle of the main east-west street.

And I second the advice to stay healthy!

20. Fight Back against the Bullshit Coverage!
I have to say that I was entirely pissed today by the Local Media being complete and utter whores to Bush today.

Some incidents that pissed me off:

-On the 6pm News ABC (WBAY) spent a ton of time giving glowing reviews of Bush’s speech and making him seem so beloved by Appleton because of the lengthy standing ovations he received. No mention that those invited were Bush supporters/contributors and no regular citizens who might dissent were allowed in. They also gave those maybe 20-25 Bush supporters more airtime than us in OUR protesting segment than US, and allowed the very few Bush people to call us uneducated kids who had signs made for us and are walking around for no reason” the news themselves discredited us saying “Many feel they don’t have the facts straight”.

-The NBC 26 6pm article also tried to point out the Bush supporters present and gave us a very short segment that demeaned our effort.

-The CBS (WFRV) 10pm segment was cut down to a few seconds and they then tried to lie and say that “there were 100” protesters there. (The same line was repeated in the WBAY clips)

-The Appleton Post-Crescent claimed there were only “300-400” protesters out. BOTH these numbers seem EXCESSIVELY LOW to me….

-The NBC 26 10pm article lied further by stating this heap of shit: “there were an equal amount of Bush supporters out amongst the protesters”.

This is a series of outrageous lies. I have walking Pneumonia and put my health seriously at risk to be there today in the 37 degree temperatures. Many of you missed a payday at work to protest this man. Our work should not be trivialized.
