Four more votes for Kerry in Kansas
Both of the ladies who share my carpool say they'll vote for Kerry in November. One of them said her Dad in Iowa was very impressed with him because of the way he sat down with the vets at one appearance and wouldn't leave, even when his handlers wanted him to do so. Tammy also said that JK offered to get her Dad some names to help him get a new Vet center off the ground and then later followed through on that promise.

My other coworker said she voted for Bush last time, but he absolutely would not get her vote this time around. Same goes for her husband and 19 year old son.

Neither of these women is in my usual group of Dem activists and both are conservative Catholic ladies. However they are just as disgusted with Bush as any of us are, and at least one has a personal reason to vote for Kerry, as I explained above.

1. I wonder if Kerry could win Kansas? They are more Republican....
and pro-small government than they are right wing nutcakes.

Bush has pissed off his base.

3. I'm actually becoming optimistic that ...

...the Democrats stand a good chance of winning back the WH. November is still a long way off tho.

4. Cool. I am in Kansas and feel like a fly in milk: totally surrounded by
republicans.

5. What your friend's dad experienced is EXACTLY why Kerry won Iowa
so decisively.

The media wasn't really paying much attention while Kerry was visiting with smaller, more intimate crowds and winning the voters over by personal interaction and commitment to answering the questions that mattered in their lives.

6. Very good.
Kansas (I live here also) is full of people who are Republican because their parents and grandparents were Republicans, not necessarily because they've given it a lot of thought. There are also far too many right wing christian wackos here.

Will you be participating in your Congressional District caucus tomorrow? Which district?

9. No, too much else to do tomorrow
One of my friends (not the carpoolers) was elected as a delegate from Lawrence. There are a couple of Lawrence Dean people who are vying for a spot as delegate to the third district.

Are you going?

8. We voted in Sebelius.
Don't count Kansas out. It's a long shot, but lots of folks are angry here. Kansans are practical, salt of the earth people. It may be a hard sell, but many will either stay home or make a protest vote for Kerry to get even for the * con job regarding our economy and/or Iraqmire.

10. One of the most enthusiastic of our local volunteers
is a vet who voted Bush in 2000. I don't think the polls show the whole story as far as the level of discontent with Bush.

You know, if people walked, one by one, to the same side of a boat, at some point it would tip over on that side. :)

One by one. That's what it's going to take.

Talk to 'em, and get 'em registered, too.
