Obama won Texas?
I was just listening to NPR and they were saying that it seems like (with almost 1/2 the caucus votes counted), that it will be Obama who won Texas (although they say it will be hard for him to change the perception).

Did anyone else hear this?

6. So the state will still go for her?
I knew about the delegate count, but NPR said it looks like he will win the state

8. Um, well, see there's a primary AND a caucus in Texas.
Together, they determine the outcome of the race. Quite frankly, I don't think the MSM should have been reporting any results while the caucuses were going on. It's not like the people at them had no access to the media.

her campaign's contempt for caucuses would have bitten them on the ass enough times for them to start taking them seriously.

20. The delegate count is what matters
whoever squeezes the most delegates out of a state should be the winner. That being said, I think this whole business of being crowned the winner is lame. There is no winner until the convention. This is just a way for the media to get more ratings.

7. Clinton's "win" was covered by the media inaccurately
It is true that she won the primary, but she did not win the state. That has yet to be determined. I was disappointed that they obviously told an incomplete story.

28. It's okay, just more egg for their faces come Friday when TX is called for Obama.
They're all going to look like idiots. They've barely even mentioned that TX had a Caucus, let alone that Obama is winning it handily.

18. But what determines the outcome of the state?
I would think both, but seeing as the primary results were so close and Obama has a steady lead it would be his win?

33. There was more than one event, so to categorize it as a "win" is just spin
obama won the caucus
clinton won the primary
obama won more delegates

clinton gets to say she "won" the primary because by all means the primary is more significant than the caucus.
obama gets to say that he "won" more delegates since the primary was so close and the caucus (appears to be) more in his favor.

clinton will get lots of airtime by being able to say she won the state of texas. it's a great soundbyte, and with 2.6 million voters casting ballots it is a symbol of the strength of her candidacy. but the fact that she got fewer delegates than obama in texas is something they won't be too happy about.

you don't "win or lose" a state when there is more than one contest going on. it's more complicated than that.

24. Official state return still have her with a 4 delegate lead from the primaries.
http://enr.sos.state.tx.us/enr/mar04_136_state.htm

The caucus results are a different animal. Only 41% have reported so far with Obama holding a 56 to 44 lead. But we may not know how many delegates are gleamed from them until the March 29 state convention and maybe not until the June convention.

He as a 12 point lead in the caucus. All indications are that lead will be maintained and probably increase. Add the delegates together and he wins Texas.

but Obama supporters cared more about overall victory and won the caucus and Obama will get more delegates.
