Clinton/Obama may be the only viable option
Edited on Thu Mar-06-08 06:53 PM by UndertheOcean
Sadly...

Think about it , it is MOST likely that we end up with the same alignment of Red/Blue states as manifested in 2000 and 2004 , and so again it will come down to one or maybe two swing states....

Ohio's demographics favor Clinton ..Florida's large Cuban American population too.

Without carrying either Florida or Ohio it will be very hard to win the GE ,So It is not important who is ahead right now , what is important who has a bigger chance of winning swing states .. regrettably it's Clinton.

Either way, if this primary continues like this then we are royally screwed come November.

sigh

4. care to explain why ?
I don't think the red states of 2004 will be turning blue soon. Maybe in 10 years , but not so soon.

the person who wins the nomination, should be able to chose his own Vice President. :)

By the way...2004 is light years from where we are today. I believe this election will surprise everyone. Nearly 80% of the people are just as sick of the NEOCONS WARMONGERERS as we are. This election will not be the norm.

That is the reason Senator Clinton is fighting so hard for it. This is her best shot.

Edit: I too am an Obama Supporter

23. just not a very GOOD Obama supporter.

If it's all about potential match ups with McCain, Obama has the better chance of winning the electoral college than Hillary.

Ignore how well each did in some primary or other. Those are primaries... and they do not translate to the GE. Polling data on a state by state basis with Obama V McCain and Clinton V McCain have consistently shown that Obama does better. Why start with a top of ticket that does worse and has little opportunity to change peoples opinion of her (she starts out with higher negatives)?

27. Her and McCain's main advisors are joined at the hip
Both Hillary and McCain's advisors work for the same
company. owned by Mark Penn, who is Charles R. Black Jr boss in business.

Charles R. Black Jr is John McCain's chief political adviser and advises Bush and
the GOP.

18. Its been all over Air America radio, too - Rachel Maddow & Stephanie Miller &
Richard Green. Thom Hartmann is the only one holding onto some perspective -- Obama would be nuts to sign onto such a thing when he is clearly winning the delegate race. Clinton knows she is losing and that is why she is talking about such a ticket. Obama is winning and that is why he is saying, very politely, that it is too early to talk about a VP.

14. I am tired of this damn Dream ticket talk. The answer is HELL NO!
And I am sure many Clinton supports are also tired as well.

any of the 2 remaining candidates going to the others VP slot equals betrayal and will likely split the party.

Edwards is the only VP that can bring a good ticket into the white house in my view. He is well known and well liked by members of both camps.

31. Just another 8 weeks.
Should have been this week, but now we have to play out the game till the end.

At that time it will be clear that Obama will have the pledged delegate lead, a raw vote lead, more delegates in the various committees at the convention. The last statement is important... should FL and MI not agree to a do-over caucus, then his delegates will control the committee that decides whether or not to seat the FL and MI delegates (part of those "rules" that Dean kept referring to).

This will be obvious by Puerto Rico.

The super delegates will finally put and end to this by approaching clinton and informing her that she will lose on the first ballot. And we will have a nominee and a normal convention.

19. Give it up, more HRC spin. Learn to think for yourself, please.
And give this a read, too: http://www.newsweek.com/id/119010

Why should negative, whining, twisty Hillary who couldn't even manage a decent campaign be at the top of the ticket? Why should she be on the ticket at all? I don't feel sorry for her and Obama needs to put someone on the ticket of his own choice, preferably someone who is a national security expert or brings in a red state or both.

20. Cuban Americans will vote en masse for McCain
When it comes to Florida, the ship has sailed. Crist is extremely popular and will carry McCain across the finish line no matter who is running against him. I'd prefer an Obama/Richardson ticket and take my chances on Colorado and New Mexico.

22. Only if Clinton agrees not to run again in 4 years if they lose
That's the only way Obama should even consider stepping aside despite a lead in pledged delegates. That way it's a win-win for him - he gets to be VP for 8 years and then run with more experience under his belt, or he goes back to the Senate for 4 more years, bolsters his legislative credentials, and is the presumptive frontrunner in 4 years.

But let's see how he does in PA...if he wins Pennsylvania, it's a moot point. She's finished.

28. Clinton will NOT beat McCain in FL
Obama probably wouldn't either, unless he selected Bob Graham as his VP. Florida plays to McCain's relatively few strengths. In case you haven't noticed, the Cuban population is solidly Republican. The Democrats will not pick it up.

Bill will make sure Obama is locked in a closet after the GE. We have never had a spouse of the President as a former president. What are the ground rules for a VP in that arrangement. Better an older male who isn't going anywhere. Bill will be the shadow VP.
