Do you think holding the GOP convention in NY will backfire on Bush
and holding it so close to 9/11--it was obviously a move to cash in on 9/11 and they will do all they can to exploit that tragedy, but I've been impressed by how many of the families of victims of 9/11 have not hesitated to speak out against the administration and how they have tried to politicized what happened.

I think it will backfire big time. In retrospect, I think the Democrats did the right thing in not holding our convention there.

1. Huge mistake on their part
It's going to be a disaster for them.

2. I know for a Repug to think seriously is hard but
I would think by now, Rove should have got the word not to stage something at the 9-11 site. NYC convention center is one thing, but to go to the site of the WTC would blow up big time.

3. If Democrats don't overplay their hand, it will backfire on Bush..
If we overplay our hands and act a fool on national TV like in '68, it will work to his advantage.

7. Who acted a fool in '68? Besides Mayor Daley & the Chicago cops, I mean.
The dems and Johnson were in charge of the illegal, immoral war at the time.
Now Bush and the GOP has an illegal, immoral war on its hands like the tarbaby, and if outrage is expressed in the streets, they can accept responsibility for it.

9. This is my concern, as well.
If the demonstrations get out of hand, the GOP will scream like stuck pigs, the media will echo their screams, and the sheeple will blame the Democrats--and their nominee.

This must not happen.

4. It's not looking good for them.
and I suspect the Secreat Service is freaking! New Yorkers aren't known for being laid back and keeping their mouths shut. I can see the news now.....dozens of streets in NY shut down in an effort to insure security. NY workers really mad because of the disruption caused by convention. Thousands of buses filled with protesters cripple the Big Apple.

Doesn't sound like good publicity to me!

5. I think they will be nominating someone else-even so they
should probably just hold an internet convention.

I am getting the impression the Bush media has decided to actually report on the war and the wounded. If so, it means they are dumping him.

I am still not hearing defense of Bush from the high level, old time Republicans. They can't all be busy with impending indictments --surely a few should be stepping forward to say the War President is magnificent.

6. By the time of the convention, 911 and Bush's assinine response to it
will be the last things republicans want to be reminded of. He wanted to run on the war on terrorism and Iraq, and will not be able to escape doing so, as both spiral down the drain. New York, as it will turn out,is the worst possible place they could have held their convention.

However. I do not understand how having ours in Boston helps US. It should have been held in one of the battleground states...but not Florida, because of Jebs proclivity for dirty tricks.

Ohio would have been better.

10. is that cruise ship crap is still in the works, hell yea. if not, yes
That cruise boat thing of having all the guest stay outside of the city and in the ocean was ridiculous and would be media gold to exploit.

Even if they don't this is going to be a HUGE blunder. Once bush is continued to be skewered over his failure in 9/11 this will look cheap and political. Just look at the reaction from his commercial.
