Kerry people (please read even if you hate me)
Edited on Thu Apr-08-04 10:00 PM by dsc
If you want a campaign ad for Kerry pony up for a tape of Prime Time Live tonight. The entire hour was about the appalling, and that is a kind word, health care our veterans are getting at Temple, Texas and Cleveland, Ohio. The ad, especially in Ohio, would be mega powerful. Pass this on.

1. I don't hate you
I've always thought you raised important points. I wish Kerry supported marriage rights for GLBT but our democratic nominee doesn't. I never expected to agree with everything our nominee does. I'm now in love with Kerry. Wasn't always, but now I am. I think I'm easy with this.

I watch the stuff on Prime Time Live. I think Kerry will win the Veteran's vote.

3. This issue speaks volumes about the regime.
I drive by the Veteran's Hospital every day and it is heartbreaking to see the homeless vets.

5. when Kerry talks about veterans and other military issues
he is at one of his best. you can tell how much the issues affect him and how important they are to him. he seems most comfortable around others military people even though some would think he would be the best around "intellectual" types. it would be a good thing if he would talk about this issue as much as he can and include it in almost every speech. and he should bring up the issue in an ad.he needs to make mention of himself being a veteran in those ads also.

8. Read it
And I don't hate anyone - and if I did there are a few people in front of you that I would poison my own karma hating first :D (fortunately for me they hate themselves so I don't have to)

9. I watched part of that last night
What a disgrace to our veterans. I hate to say I had to change the channel, it was just to heart wrenching to watch right before going to sleep.

My dad has often said he may have to give up his health insurance and go through veterans hospital. That thought scares me, but being self employed all of his life before retiring, he has been paying heavy insurance premiums for years. Now that he just has his social security he is having a rough time trying to pay the bills.

12. I know
He already would be using the Veteran's benefits if it weren't for meidcaid. To insure both him and my mom would be several hundred dollars a month. But my mom gets medicaid due to being in a nursing home.

17. Sorry about your mom.
My mom is in a nursing home too. I know how rough that can be to deal with. That is another area that needs help, with the nursing shortage and all, but I won't get into that now.

15. Is this the Republicans' fault?
Or would they just find a 15 year old vote from the senate where funding for veterans was tied up in a sci-fi weapon bill that Kerry voted against. Of course, he deplored the weapon and praised the veterans funding on the floor, but no one cares because he voted against it?

Seems to be the way they deal with "issues".

16. The GOP really shouldn't be talking about the past
Edited on Fri Apr-09-04 09:50 PM by Hippo_Tron
Because the simple truth is that while Kerry was making all of those votes that the Republicans doesn't like, Bush was sitting on his ass getting drunk and snorting coke. I think that when Bush brings up any vote of Kerry's from the 80's Kerry needs to respond, "Well George, if you want to bring up the past I think it's only fair that I ask you what you were doing while I was making those votes in congress."

20. This is only a sampling...There is more than this !
Edited on Sat Apr-10-04 10:21 PM by vetwife
The Congress has no power right now. I started a vets organizationin 2000. Under Clinton, things got done, slow but got done. He had Inspector Generals everywhere but once the repugs took over Congress he got ripped especially by the Gingrich Bunch. I could tell you some tales that would make your hair stand on end.
I went to Washington and sat down with The VA Headquarters.

I helped folks with claims and it would get done..Slow but done. Now, you can't get squat..And like I said, I could tell you some really good things that Clinton, Kerry Kennedy, Harkin all did while they had some power for the VA hospitals and Regional offices but once the repugs took over in 94..OMG.....It was like swimming upstream and not being a salmon. Electric shock treatments in 2001
at Gainesville VA...Shutting down Va's in New York and other places. Vets waiting for months and months to be seen. And mentally unstable shipped off to State health facilities with no food or bed for over 24 hours. And if you think all that is bad wait until you find out what I know about the Iraqi Vet and Enduring Freedom Vets..and what they can expect and what they are not gonna get ! Daschle would introduce a bill and it get buried.. Lane Evans of Illinois would do the same..Buried or lost in committe. Ridiculous !
