TRANSFER OF POWER WILL NOT STOP THE BLOODSHED IN IRAQ!
(Congressman Dennis J. Kucinich debates Republicans on
National TV-Urges Democratic Party to take a stand!)
April 8, 2004 TODAY

Campaigning in Portland Oregon Congressman Dennis J. Kucinich warned voters in the remaining Presidential primaries that the June 30th transfer of power from the US-led Coalition Provisional Authority to an interim Iraqi government is deceptive and will not end the nightmare of bloodshed in the region.

Debating Republican Deputy Majority Whip Mark Foley on national TV from a studio in Portland, Kucinich warned that the arguments used for keeping American troops in Iraq are the same kind of arguments used to keep us in Vietnam. “We’re getting into this deeper when we should be constructing a plan to bring the United Nations Peacekeeping forces in because the UN is the only way out. We could be in a war which could last ten or twelve years. The Democrats should be taking a position challenging this administration for taking this country into this war!”

The four-term Ohio Congressman issued a statement from Oregon explaining the deceitful posturing the Republican administration is trying to sell the American people in the so called “transfer of power” expected on June 30th. “There’s not going to be any difference in our military posture on July 1st after this so called “transfer of power” takes place.” Kucinich says Deputy Defense Secretary Paul Wolfowitz admitted this in comments to reporters at a House Armed Services Committee last week. “The level of violence aimed at our men and women will increase as American soldiers are seen as an occupying army because the US led Coalition Provisional Authority has the final say in the new leadership of Iraq.”

On CNN Kucinich debated saying, “History is repeating itself. When the British Empire tried to occupy Iraq during World War I the religious factions in the country eventually joined together ousting the British and costing thousands of lives.”

Earlier this week Kucinich debated California Republican Congressman Dana Rohrabacher on MSNBC urging the Democratic Party to take a stand against the continued occupation of Iraq. “My position in this race; I’m like a little tugboat that’s trying to pull a big liner called the Democratic Patty to get it out to sea so it can sail successfully to victory. I don’t think it can do that if it’s staying in the harbor quibbling about whether to take a position on the war or not.”

1. "We're not in the Olympics now in Iraq - we're at war,"
he said, urging people to consider the ongoing conflict as a serious issue in the election. "My presence in the primary gives people a chance to voice their desire for a new direction in Iraq."

"What do we get when we win?," Kucinich asked. "I don't think people in America want to trade a Republican war in Iraq for a Democrat war in Iraq."

2. What a great metaphor!
Dennis the tugboat, trying to haul the massive party ship through traffic in the harbor, out to sea where it can operate.

Thanks Dennis, for your steadfast willingness to take a stand when courage is required. Thanks for pointing out that you are working forthe democratic party. Thanks for all you are doing.

:loveya:

5. Tugboat powered by the people
who believe in Dennis and his message.

I was asked recently why i was still planning to attend my state's convention as a Kucinish delegate.
Oh jeez, there's no one answer, is there?
Reading thru my local paper today i came across an add in the paper,
Elderly woman in(name of town) requests bottles and cans, returnable, to help out with expenses.
We're spending billions fighting an illegal war for Oil,
while this elderly Lady, and millions just like her, struggle daily to survive.
Dennis recognizes the suffering and pain, the need of faceless,
and continues to fight for them.
I will proudly do the same.

6. This fight doesn't end on November 3. It just starts a new chapter.
Glad to hear you're going to your state's convention as a DK delegate. I'll be doing the same in MN's CD-5 and also at the MN state convention.

No matter who wins in November (Kerry or Bush), we'll still have to fight for what we believe in:

* Single-payer, universal healthcare,
* an end to the war in Iraq,
* a fully-funded FREE public education, preschool through college,
* an end to corporate control of our country and economy,
* repeal of the PATRIOT Act,
* cutting waste in the Pentagon budget.

Neither Kerry nor Bush are in favor of these positions. Which means that we won't stop fighting for them.

Our state-based group is already planning our next steps: we're screening candidates at all levels for endorsement, and we're lining up races where we can make a difference.

The convention is not the end-- it's a new beginning. And no matter who wins on November 2, we'll still be fighting on November 3.

7. Accurate portrayal of reality, buddhamama!
Yet, elsewhere on this forum, the DLC "talking point" is still made that the safety net is JUST FINE. IT's there for peple who "truly need it, just not a way of life anymore".

So, thousands will die so that we can learn that the safety net has, indeed, been shredded.

That's why my efforts went to Dennis.... I truly believe he's the ONLY one who really understands that.

I also believe he's the ONLY one who will grieve for the people lost in the coming cuts.
