Bill Clinton said Saturday in Mississippi that a joint ticket between his wife and Barack Obama would be an “unstoppable force.”

The former president is the latest Hillary Clinton backer to stoke speculation about the two rivals joining forces once the dust settles on their heated primary race.

“I know that she has always been open to it, because she believes that if you can unite the energy and the new people that he’s brought in and the people in these vast swaths of small-town and rural America that she’s carried overwhelmingly — if you had those two things together, she thinks it’d be hard to beat,” Clinton said at a town hall meeting in Pass Christian, Miss.

“But you look at most of these places — he would win the urban areas and the upscale voters, and she wins the traditional rural areas that we lost when President Reagan was president. If you put those two things together, you’d have an almost unstoppable force,” Clinton explained.


I know that this could be a trick and is an effort to try to get people to vote for Clinton with the idea that they get Obama too as VP but as an Obama supporter, the fact that Bill Clinton does acknowledge the incredible candidacy and potential of Barack Obama is meaningful. I'm glad he doesn't want to destroy the democrat's brightest and most shining light anymore. I have to say that Clinton's connection with Reagan democrats and Obama's connections with African Americans, independents, the young and crossover republican voters is incredibly potent. I can also imagine Bill Clinton helping Obama to hone his poliitcal skils and cementing the dmeocratic machine for him for his 2016 presidential run. Bill and Hillary could tutor Obama on their amazing political skills and foreign policy as well. If Obama ends up losing the nomination (let there be no doubt that I still strongly support him), a joint ticket is great consolation.

If this is a trick, on the other hand, and she says she's going to pick Obama and then picks Bayh, I'll be enraged. The idea of the next state of the union gives me chills too.....Imagine either a woman or African american at the podium giving the S.O.T.U., and a woman speaker and an african american or woman vice president sitting behind the president. It'd be amazing.

Part of the reason that I support Obama so much is that I didn't really believe she'd pick him as VP and she'd go with a DLC type. Knowing that the Clintons are political animals, however, I am starting to think that they think a Clinton/Obama ticket would be politically advantageous and I could settle for that.

That said, still, go Obama all the way!

Obama should actually point this out. She's trying to say he doesn't meet the commander in chief threshold in the morning, and then floating the idea of him as VP in the afternoon. Wild.

that is awful, and would make Obama the status quo guy, plus the invisible VP. He is winning, and must be viewed as the Presidential candidate. I would not even want Hil as VP unless deemed absolutely necessary.

I hate having Obama on the ticket as much as you hate having Clinton, but, it's gonna happen.

No Hil on the ticket unless the party elders give him no choice but to include her.

Contrary to that dickwad's opinion, there are many that will never vote for a Clinton/Obama ticket and it's an utter crime for them to tear Obama down on side and ask for his supporters to back Hillary on the other.

I'm sure many are optimistic that all wounds will heal after the convention. I just hope that we are being realistic about that.

Many of the attacks that our candidates are leveling on each other would have been done by McCain anyway. The problem is that now when he does them, he will have cover against charges that they are baseless partisan attacks. He can just say "I'm just repeating what Hillary said about Obama" or vice versa.

bill is simply trying to diminish Obama as a presidential candidate, try and get waverers on board by dangling Obama in front of them, and help his wife with AA voters. And he's wrong about the rural vote. Obama won Iowa, CO, AK, ID, VT, ME and many other rural states- and he won the rural vote in those states.

I don't think it would necessarily be a wise move on his part, as it would put him under the shadow of the Clintons.
The vice presidency would blur his own policies, make it more difficult for Obama to draw distinctions between he and
the President, VP's are supposed to be loyal to their president.

By 2016, when he would presumably run himself, he'd be running on the 8 year record of the administration- still not completely his own man at least in the eyes of the electorate.


Ironically, accepting the vice presidential nomination is only definitely a smart political move for Obama if McCain wins this year, as it would show him to be a team player yet still be able to cut out on his own in 2012.
