I can't believe that less than 10,000 voters are going to determine the delegate count in WY
With 96% of caucuses reporting, Obama has been declared the winner with a only 59% of the vote of less than 10,000 voters in the Democratic race in Wyoming. This is the most undemocratic result we could envision, and further proof that Hillary Clinton should be the nominee; Obama can only win small red states, that hold caucuses, and in which less than 1% of the state's population can get to the caucus site, and not be arm-twisted into voting for Obama.

What kind of democracy is this? :puke:

3. Educate yourself! The numbers you see are STATE DELEGATES AWARDED... no the number of ppl that ...
..attended the caucuses.

Multiply that number by at least 5, and you get how many people showed up.



I'm amazed that people STILL don't know how caucuses work.

The 7,500 that's being reported on CNN is the number of voters that showed up at caucus sites today.

As far as state delegates go:

Here's the most recent update on state delegates: Last five caucus results now coming in. Hillary wins Weston County. Obama won Big Horn and Johnson. Only Sheridan and Teton are left. The delegate count is now at 160 for Obama, 116 for Hillary, 2 uncommitted. Again, these are delegates to the state convention to be held in late May. CNN now projects Obama to win. Sheridan has 18 delegates and Teton has 17. The caucus ends at 6pm MT in Sheridan.

There are only 319 delegates to the state convention. What you said is true of Iowa and probably a few other states, but not Wyoming. Caucuses aren't all the same.

I think those are votes that translate into caucus numbers... the actual votes are much higher than that, I think. At least, that's what I took away from previous caucuses.

Any Wyomingans here? (is it "Wyomingans?")

Those are the actual caucus goers...

State delegates is what they call a person who attends a caucus...

The delegates to the convention are awarded based on how many "state Delegates" attend and vote for the candidate...

the 4,500 to 3,000 "score" you see on the screen is the number of delegates awarded to go to the WYOMING Democratic convention for each candidate.

It is THERE that the 12 pledged delegates will be awarded.... in June.


The numbers on the screen are *NOT* the number of people that showed up at the caucuses. 35,000 to 40,000 showed up today.

10. Let me clear this up... when it says Obama has 4500 to Hillary's 3000....
...that is the number of STATE DELEGATES awarded to each that will attend the Wyoming Democratic convention.


It is *NOT* the number of people that showed up for the caucuses. There is typically 5 to 10 times as many people at the caucuses as the number of state delegates awarded.


The numbers you are seeing on MSNBC and CNN and Fox are NOT the number of people who participated in the caucuses.

tens of thousands more participated.

But I have a feeling that there really were about 10,000 voters who attended the caucuses today. Which, when you consider Wyoming's political climate (and the general apathy toward politics held by most Wyoming residents), is actually a pretty big number.

I read somewhere that about 750 democrats took part in the caucuses in 2004. Of course, by the time the caucus rolled around that year, Kerry already had the nomination won, so there wasn't as much on the line. Still, it's great (and amazing!) to see that kind of turnout from Wyoming Democrats :toast:

let's optimistically say 60,000 voted in today's primary then it takes ~5000 voters to determine one delegate. In contrast it takes about ~10,000 voters to win one delegate in California. I'm living in the wrong state!

on edit I guess there are 13 and not 12 delegates for WY so thats actually 4600:1.

Barack has darker skin and that is a definite advantage in a state with so many ethnic voters.

WY also has so many young, urban, hip voters, which helped Barack.

And they haven't realized that their national security is threatened by someone who is not a muslim (as far as I know).

And it is a small state with delegates who don't really count - Hillary won the Soviet primaries in FLA and MI - much more important so never mind. :sarcasm:
