Regarding the business about a protest/riot/whatever you want to call it in Denver
Edited on Sun Mar-09-08 07:35 AM by aquarius dawning
I believe this is the original story that generated the idea that Obama supporters were planning to riot violently if they don't get their way. From the Huffington Post:

Some Apocalyptic Observations on the Democratic Nomination Fight from Here on Out

"A young friend who lives in a small town in a rural state sent me the following observation today:

If the Clintons push for the win in Denver, they're going to split the goddamn party down the middle. I read your chapter on 1968 Chicago, obviously. I'm of the generation who supports Obama. I know what we're like. Shit, I know what I'm like...

Rick, if the Machine tries to give the Clintons the victory at the convention, I swear to God, Chicago's going to look like a Sadie Hawkins dance. People my age are going to be throwing stones. We all have transportation -- cell phones -- disposable income -- the Internet -- free time -- and Seattle as our example. Part of me is scared of a riot. Part of me isn't. The nomination belongs to Obama. Do you think we're going to let the Democratic Leadership Council take it? "God gave Noah the rainbow sign. No more water, fire next time....

Not to mention that there's going to be a significant Iraq veteran contingent at the convention, ready to rock 'n' roll. We've already had planning meetings about it -- we're going about it the same way that we would plan any decent military operation...."

2. I'm sure they are. I hope they aren't being intimidated into voting one way or the other.
This is incredibly disturbing.

4. I trust they will make the correct decision.
If it goes to the Convention vote and one has both the Pledged and Popular vote lead, the choice will be clear. If that measure is split, it is a very tough decision. There will be intimidation from all sides.

29. I hope they are paying attenton to the strong support that each candidate
has. They need to carefully maneuver the resolution. I don't have the answer, I hope they can figure it out, without causing a rip in the Party.

I don't know what an obamaite is or what the are proposing, but I do know that Obama has over 12 million supporters, and Hillary has over 12 million supporters.

20. Facism=Corporatism=stifling dissent
Haven't we had enough of that from bushCo? And now corporatist HRC wants to annoint herself the nominee, and BTW - lets round up and jail anybody that objects, especially if they're black. How very democratic... :sarcasm:

21. when 50% of the popular electorate is split between two candidates, it's hard to make your case
that dissent is being stiffled by corporations. It's much easier to make the case that Obama supporters are (quite possibly) preparing to intimidate the convention members into submision which is very much consistent with fascism.

22. Would the Obamaniacs really do that?
I've always thought that Obama was too tied in
with Reeps and corporatists, and we most definitely
-are- a fascist nation.. so perhaps the fascism
has penetrated the mindset or collecive psyche in
a big way. Too bad.

And it's based on one email posted on the web. We have no idea whether the writer of said email is bullshitting or honest about what he/she is contending. But you, of course, are taking this slim morsel and running with it to make Obama supporters and Obama himself look bad. It's disgusting of you.

Furthermore, your wish to see another DUer violently mistreated by the police, is disgraceful.

I have nothing but contempt for your "efforts".

Oh, do you mean that the dog and pony show will be one like what nearly happened in Quebec?

I wouldn't put it past Bush, or Clinton to use agents provocateurs...

PERIOD.

But peaceful protests should be allowed. No more "free speech zones" and other nonsense.

14. We expect the GOP to steal elections ...
and I'll be goddamned if I'll allow it to happen within this party.

Obama has more delegates (and he still will come Denver, do the math)

Obama has more votes (and will continue to, going into Denver)

Ok, now the argument for Al Gore winning the 2000 election was that he won the popular vote. And the gop countered with the "electoral college" BS (and hurry up and certify Florida before we count Dade, Broward, & Palm Beach counties). Substitute "delegates" for "electoral college", and the Clintonites lose BOTH FUCKING SIDES of the debate as framed 8 years ago.

So we're supposed to roll over and play dead just because she's Hillary Fucking Clinton? Last time I checked, VOTES MATTER, especially for DEMOCRATS. If the party gives her the nomination, we're just giving the GOP a big "thumbs up" for the way they've manipulated, and yes, STOLEN elections in 2000 and 2004 (doubt we'll ever get a full, accurate account of just exactly what happened in Ohio, but that's another thread).

Everyone can get all up in arms about the potential for riots in Denver, but the bottom line is that protest is a healthy part of a free and open society, and is a perfectly legitimate means of addressing tyranny and oppression, which is EXACTLY what giving Hillary the nomination would represent. You cannot suppress the will of the majority of the party. You do, they'll be hell to pay.

Oh, and remember, Obama voters are on average much younger than HRC supporters. Prepare to get your walkers shoved right up your Depends.

18. That's what happened in 1968. Democratic voters were so appalled
by what happened at the convention that they either stayed home or voted for Nixon. It could happen again.
