Senate Race in Colorado.... Miles vs Salazar
I saw a question about this in Politics, and posted an answer, but realize that few people read there.

Wish I had posted this before the caucus... it's an eye-opener:

Mike Miles Ken Salazar
Iraq Opposed Supported

Tax dollars for religious/private schools

Singlepayer health care

Presidential Endoresement
Howard Dean Joe Lieberman

1. Hi Kanary
People's attitudes are kind of frustrating. There were only 5 people at my precinct caucus and I was the only one who voted for Miles. Everyone else said that they really liked him, but went for Salazar anyway, even the other two people who went for Kucinich for the Presidential vote. The line seems to be that Miles is really great but Salazar is the only one who is electable. I find that kind of questionable, the Colorado Democratic party has been having a pretty difficult time coming up with electable candidates for national office these past several years. I guess I'll believe it when I see it.

I will of course support him if he is the nominee, but with about the same level of enthusiasm that I've had for other candidates in the recent past which is not much.

On the plus side, I get to be a delegate for Miles at the Boulder County assembly on May 8th. That should be interesting.

5. Sounds like a constant loop replay of that "electability" theme
Just like elevator music, it isn't going to play well in the long run. As you said, the enthusiasm is missing, and that doesn't help get the votes.

I'm really glad you were able to stick with your conscience, and vote as you believed. I'm definitely disappointed that Kucitizens would fall for that "electability" stuff. After all we've been through with that, it certainly is odd.

At least you have a few weeks to "work on" the other delegates... :)

Good going, crunchy!

:toast:

Kanary, wondering if there was any flirting going on... hehehe :)

9. I'm actually not sure they were Kucitizens.
I think they may have been, like me, originally supporters of other former candidates, who were not ready to just fall in line behind Kerry quite yet, and wanted a chance to cast a vote that really meant something instead of just being a rubber stamp.

And no, no flirting, not with this group. :-(

Maybe at the Mike Miles meetup.

2. Oh, please. Let's not be all one dimensional here.
Ken Salazar is a great candidate. As for a single payer health plan, it's not realistic. Affordable health care, universal health care, well, that's a lot different.

If we keep thinking in either or, left or right, right or wrong parameters, we will go exactly no where. I think we are better than that.

And context matters. Get a grip.

3. Yeah, OK, whatever,
anyway I'm already stuck being a Mike Miles delegate, so your good advice is coming too late for me.

It's kind of funny, first on this board, I get accused of being a closet Republican because I support Wes Clark, then I get accused of being a one dimensional lefty because I support Mike Miles.

Actually, I'm just a hardcore militarist who can't resist a West Point grad.

6. LOL, I'm called a republican a lot, as well.
And Miles seems like a good candidate, but, hey this is El Paso County. The Dems I've met seem to have silver hair or teach at Colorado College. But the tide may be turning in some measure thanks to Mike. We need more voices like his. Ken has been a long time low key presence here. Folks respect him.

It's great to have more than one good choice.

4. Telling me to "GET A GRIP"
is NOT the way to have a real discussion.

I've had it with the demeaning terms. You want a discussion, then try some courtesy.

Keep going with your "electability" tack, and we'll watch the Dems keep losing.

Or, maybe you like all the losing the Dems have been doing.

7. Then refine your "eye opener".
The way you posed the issues was not exactly a way to invite discussion.

10. Who is talking about an *attack*?
Relax. This isn't that big a deal. In time this will have worked its way out. And I think the dems will win. We usually do.
