Spitzer revelation---True Rovian tactics
Let there be no doubt about it---the expose of Spitzer's connection with the prostitution ring is the Republican Party using its infamous Rovian tactics. Those who have accused Hillary Clinton of using tactics a la Karl Rove don't have any idea what a true Rovian tactic is. This investigation and report on Eliot Spitzer is a stealth attack. It leaves the Republican presidential nominee looking clean. By attacking a prominent Democrat and, mind you, a superdelegate supporting Hillary, the Republicans are poised to erode the voter's confidence in the Democratic Party. It's meant to bring back into the American voter's conscienceness Bill Clinton's dalliances and have the practical effect of cutting into hillary's superdelegate support.

5. Spitzer wouldn't be impeached! There are 150+ Dems in the NY legislature &
only 40+ Pubs. HOWEVER, I suspect Spitzer will resign.

14. What's your point?
It hurts the Democratic Party. It also hurts Hillary in a particular way. But it hurts Obama and every Democrat running for Congress as well. You didn't seem to understand what I posted.

8. A Rovian tactic that could have been avoided...
...if Spitzer had kept his pants zipped?

I don't think Rove leaves things like that to chance.

16. It all has to do with WHERE investigations take place
WHO is investigated and how freely the federal investigators provide information to the media. This is what is controlled by the Republican Party. Do you really believe there are not many politicians that pay for sex?

9. Two problems with your theory
1. Spitzer had conducted just this kind of investigation a couple of years ago. You have no evidence that it was directed at him in particular.

2. If what you say were true, it would make far more sense to hold the indictments back (in order to gather more evidence or some other pretext) until September or October, when it would do a lot more damage to the Democratic candidate.

If Spitzer resigns, his Lieutenant Governor is also, I believe, a Hillary supporter.

10. here's the proof of what you say
Catherine Crier noted last evening that gratuitous, salacious content was added just for its impact on the press. The part about "unsafe" sex is what she referred to, in part.

This was a hit. Yes, he was wrong. (I'm not going to say "guilty" because he's been charged with no crime.) But the RUSH to judgment, the Ken Starr-like wording, the public shaming, the media blitz.

It was a hit, and a warning.

15. All the johns in the Democratic Party
All the Dems pushing for investigations and impeachment.

These criminals will stop at nothing, and while Bush is still in the WH and in control of the FBI, DOJ and the federal courts, they'll likely go on a binge and destroy as many Dems as they can before Bush leaves.

19. Cops can't be everywhere at everytime
If it's politically expedient, GWB's federal investigators will look the other way. Now that the General Election is coming up, you can bet their attention will be focused on the Democrats and not on Republicans.

11. You mean Mrs Clinton didn't release this info to clear her way to be NY Governor?
That would give her someplace to land after she loses to BO, and provides executive experience for a Presidential run in 2012 or 2016. It makes perfect sense so it must be true.

12. If you give him the ammo, Rove knows how to shoot
You are right about how they will use this, but the bottom line is, it isn't a fabricated story. I find it hard to blame Rove when we hand him the club to beat us over the head. If you want to be a crusading politicians, you will probably have to give up hookers. Sorry, but them's the breaks.

25. I think this predates Rove ...

I would call this Machiavellian. Whatever the case may be, Sptizer did the deed and he got caught. In the process he seems to have exposed himself to charges of the Mann act and also to money laundering charges. I think he'll beat everything but the solicitation charge (DC). But in the meantime, he'll be politically crippled similar to Bill Clinton except he actually committed a crime.

He's done, stick a fork in him.
