Is 'sloppy seconds' a sexist and demeaning remark?
Edited on Mon Mar-17-08 05:23 PM by Whisp
I see that a Hillary supporter has used this to describe something distasteful to her/herself.

How does that sit with you, seeing as Obama supporters have been called sexists against Hillary simply because we don't vote for her because she's a woman?
and women who support Obama are called traitors and not real feminists.
so is 'ss' okay to use, as long as you are a Clinton supporter?

btw, I'm not even sure what this term actually means, except it is Very demeaning and mysognist.

===
on edit: to make it clearer for some jackasses here, the term to me was gang rape related, but I have heard other definitions of it - thus the 'i'm not sure what it means'

version,
in a gang rape, that term is used as for what the second man 'gets' from the assault to the victim.
and it is said in jest and jokery.

I'm sure there are other meanings, and that is what I meant.
what other meanings are there that this sort of word usage could just pop up in a totally non-related dialogue

2. Trditionaly, sloppy seconds is a term used....
when a woman has sex with one man, and then has sex with a different man very shortly after. The second man is getting "sloppy seconds" because she still has semen in her vagina.

34. Personally, I never really need to use the term.
I find the term really offensive and demeaning more toward women than to men.

When I have heard it used, it was used to insult the second man. The first man had clean sex and the woman got to fuck two guys. To further insult the second man, oral sex on the woman can be (and often is) mentioned.

But really, the offensiveness depends on context and audience. Some people believe that it is wrong for a woman to have sex with two guys, but great if a guy has sex with two girls. For me, that is sexism.

4. "Sloppy seconds"
A-hem. It has a meaning in the world of group sex. You see, those not first in line have to contend with the product left behind by the first. Hence, sloppy seconds, thirds, etc....

Doesn't have to be sexist, the term could be used in all male group sex as well.

Edited on Tue Mar-18-08 09:32 AM by endarkenment
No group sex does not in and of itself equal gang rape. The term in question certainly does bring that sort of sexual relation to mind.

Sloppy seconds reduces the person who is 'sloppy' into an object that is being used by one or more men for their pleasure, said object being less desirable after its first use. The scenario implied by this is one in which an alpha male and his cohorts are fucking a man or a woman in a sequence determined by their hierarchical relationship to each other. The alpha male is entitled to 'firsts', the others to increasingly sloppy Nths. The scenario is odious. It's archetype is gang rape. Thanks for asking.

27. Sloppy Seconds
I think the Hells Angels of the mid sixties were the visionaries that popularized the term, as a result of some of the consequences of their development of new breakthrough ways to have good clean fun. Unless, of course, you were a woman that associated with them at the time. I think they shared their women, and a Hells Angel's lady was expected to "pull a train" every now and then.

Edited on Mon Mar-17-08 05:08 PM by thecatburgler
Some of the worst sexists and sexism-enablers on DU previously have become staunch defenders of Queen Hillary. But when the topic is other women, the newfound sisterhood goes right out the window. There were a bunch of them weighing in with nasty comments about Spitzer's escort. Don't even bring up the women who alleged that Bill Clinton harassed them. They are lower than dirt, as far as the FFFHs are concerned. Thus, it should be no surprise that one would casually throw out a disgustingly misogynistic term like that.

but mention that feminism really is about ALL woman, whether you like or approve of them or not - whether you hate Ann Coulter or Monica's opinions, decisions, etc., they are still women and if you diss them based on gender or mysoginist rulings of the past, then you are Not a feminist but a two faced opportunist for Hillary.

51. I could see it as demeaning, I suppose, but how is it even remotely sexist? Is same-gender sex less
"sloppy" than heterosexual sex?

In the practice of heterosexual sex (when done correctly), is one gender left fresh and clean while the other is left "sloppy" afterward?

Assuming (as the OP apparently does and I do not) that the term relates to "gang rape," is one gender immune from gang rape while the other is not?

54. Sexist? Not at all.
It was explained further upthread what it is so I won't go into it again. No need.
The term--while being sexual in origin--also is used to denote taking something after someone has already used it.
You might try googling the term just to get an idea of it's usage...although I suspect that you won't because there isn't any outrage in it.

>>>snip
Posing a question to the White House press secretary, Scott McClellan, Mr. Roberts said, "Scott, you said that - or the president said, repeatedly, that Harriet Miers was the best person for the job. So does that mean Alito is sloppy seconds, or what?"

"Sloppy seconds" is a slang term that pejoratively refers to sexual activity with a person who has just been sexually active with a third party. It is often employed metaphorically as well, as in Mr. Roberts's case.

other any racially derogatory word they want. It is not considered demeaning if it comes from within the oppressed group. However, if a man calls a woman a bitch or a slut, she will slap him up side the head. That is why the SNL thing with "bitch" in it this weekend was not funny. It was not a woman saying it. When a man says it, the word sounds violent and woman hating.

Context counts.

Does that answer your question?

Anyways, it's a post encounter term.

Post male-male.
Post male-female.
Post female-female.

Second encounter (with the same person, or another) is sloppier.

Misogyny has nothing to do with it, at least, it hasn't since 30 years ago when humanity miraculously discovered that we could actually have sex more than once a day.
