FWIW... The Wright thing isn't sticking, from personal experience.

Our babysitter's mom is scared of Obama because "he's a Muslim".

I said, didn't you see his preacher on the tee-vee this weekend?

She also said she and several of her Republican friends registered in the Ohio primary to vote for Hillary. I said "Limbaugh, eh?" and she nodded her head.

For her, it was out of fear that Obama would become president, and because of his Muslim upbringing (she conceded that maybe he's Christian now), he can never be trusted, because the Muslims are out to destroy America.

I said, I'm Jewish and I'm not sacred of 'em. Jeez. And as for Obama, I've been following his career, and his words and actions simply don't back up your fears.

The conversation moved on, but hopefully it gave her some food for thought.

1. I haven't heard anything about it from people around me.
Several people asked me how the campaign was going and congratulated me for winning a delegate spot, but no mention of the preacher.

2. Another reason it won't stick...
Some people have lives, unlike us - LOL...

And when i say lives, I mean new episodes of Top Chef, Big Brother, Idol, Lost, etc...

4. I think you are correct. Here on DU we tend to be more informed
about many things that most of the people of this country are just too busy trying to survive to hear. My kids asked what I thought and after hearing my statement dropped it. It may be a good thing to get it over with now. This Muslim idea about him is more of a problem than an angry black minister in America. It comes up way too often.

5. The Wright issue is with us as long as Obama is in the race.

6. However, it will not count all that much when we are facing McCain
with his crazy ministers. Many a rw preacher has come right out and condemned America in very similair terms to Wright. That is why McCain was so quick to speak up for Obama. He wants the issue to be ignored for his own sake.

7. You assume that the media will be fair
When has it been fair? They help elect Republicans.

Shit, that is ALL they talked about at the hospital I work at today. I didn't even have to say a word, just sat and listened. The Obama supporters are jumping off like that O-bus was on fire and headed towards a cliff.

9. that's been my experience as well
I went to my parents' house on Sunday for my brother's birthday. In attendance were:

  a) My mother, a big time Clinton supporter.

  b) My sister and brother-in-law, who are mostly apolitical but also a little "un-PC".

  c) My conservative, talk-radio-listening sister-in-law.

At Christmas, my mother went off on Oprah for endorsing Obama and for being "biased towards blacks," and the other three voiced their agreement. Needless to say, I was dreading Pastorgate coming up, but to my relief it didn't.

I also didn't hear a word about Wright at work in northeast Philadelphia, a white working-class stronghold.
