If you don't know this, you really need to grow up, think, read and open your eyes.

It's what WE are all about here at DU.

Argue with me on this one, and you REALLY, REALLY are fucked up, trust me.

1. Is suggesting that the government created AIDS to kill black people also loving your country?
I have to get these new definitions down.

you have a quote that talks about truth. And yet you ignore lies and distortions when it suits you.

To attack me and suggest that I need a brain transplant, because I don't believe that AIDS was spread by our government, is not democracy or truth. It is ugly. I can disagree with you without you dehumanizing me such that it is ok for you and your cohorts to attack me.

5. I think if we had the whole story on some of the things some part of our government
was responsible for we'd all die of shame.

I don't know who created aids but I do know that there are some gov. officials sick enough to want to torture human beings to death.

cuz in the 80 it was just a "gay" disease and it was somehow holy punishment.
and on edit i'm sure they don't give a shit how many people it kills now.

14. In the 80s, when it was a rare, gay disease, it was already
ravaging central Africa. Were the CDC and WHO really completely unaware of it?

12. Is it that hard to believe, coming from a government that deliberately
refused siphilus treatment to thousands of southern blacks, so they could study the progression of the disease?

9. The opposite of both love and hate is indifference.
A good position to be in particularly when it comes to things like "country".

10. No one seriously involved in DU should pretend not to understaqnd this point.
You hate certain of the country's actions, and if they are not corrected in generations, you have to start holding much/most of the country responsible.

11. Alright, let's play the logical exercise on this one because this merits debating.
I understand that you say hating is similar to loving in that if there is somebody you love who starts doing things you hate, then your anger toward them is intense. After all you care greatly about them and they are doing things that offend you greatly, which causes you to suffer from extreme consternation. Alternatively, it is possible to simply hate a person or object that you don't care for. For example, I hate the KKK and I hate Dick Cheney. They represent everything I can't oppose. I do not love them.

And yes, I understand your point fully. It's trite, but I understand it.

That said, the fact that a person may be moved to disappointed rage over a country he loves doesn't mean that it is impossible for anyone to hate their country.

Lots of people do... and in a lot of different countries.

So it's handier to take words for what they mean. One owes the speaker that courtesy.

I find this constant, "What he meant was..." theme we hear about everything connected to the Obama candidacy to be similar to scriptural interpretation. Maybe somebody, somewhere, someday will just say what he means the first time without all this mind-reading and Talmudic-scholarship style parsing.

That would be cool.
