Obama's ability to see problems as interlocking SYSTEMS really impresses me--
he does not use a cookbook (sorry, pun not intended) of solutions for individual problems. Instead, he clearly sees that economics, social problems, poverty, education, crime, etc. etc. are all related, and his ability to weave solutions that simultaneously attack each of these elements is unique among our current candidates, and rare in general.

1. "his ability to weave solutions"
Edited on Wed Mar-19-08 03:41 PM by depakid
If he has that ability, I haven't seen much of it demonstrated.

But, your main point is well taken....

6. Obama could be our first quantuum systems theory president
quantuum systems theory = theories of interactions between "systems" (systems can't be understood or analyzed by its parts)

:bounce:

Thanks for posting, excellent points.

7. You put your finger on something I've been trying to express for a while.
For example, his health care plan includes points we don't necessary think of when we talk about health care, such as reducing exposure to lead and mercury. His rural plan includes providing information and assistance to commercial farms that want to convert to organic farming methods. Organic methods produce more nutritious food, preserve the soil base, decrease water pollution and I would guess probably help fight global climate change through less dependence on fossil fuels!

8. If our problems are truly an "interlocking system"
I'd like to see Obama's solutions demonstrated more clearly.

His speeches and understanding of our problems is outstanding, no doubt. I now want to see more specific solutions that work in the real world. This world is far detached from the ideals we aspire to achieve.

YES WE "probably" CAN..... but how specifically???

11. You obviously see the light
Show me...

As an Edwards supporter, my focus wasn't on Obama. And now with Edwards gone, I'm listening with a different ear..

(is this the kind of Rudeness I need to get used to from Obama supporters at DU?)

9. Methinks it's called "Solving For Pattern"
a phrase coined up by Wendell Berry over 30 years ago.

Google the words and you'll see what I mean.

He's smart like Bill, and is proving that he has equally keen political instincts.

... hopefully his instincts, curiosity, and analytic skill will encourage him to jettison Goolsbee.

16. We are facing an unprecedented number of critical issues as a nation,
many of which are very tough to solve. We need our best minds working on them.

So far, we've had minds that are narrowed by ideology, greed, or corporate ties. This has to stop before we have more Katrinas and Iraqs in every policy area.

17. Gore and Kerry had that ability, too. THAT is the type of wonk I appreciate - the BIG PICTURE
wonk where nearly every issue is connected for the simple reason that they are.

This is exactly why we need open government nourished on transparency and accountability - because the advancement of every other issue depends on it.

20. Obama has the courage to tell the truth about the problems and the solutions.
He is not a typical politician who tells people what they want to hear. He has the courage to tell the truth!
