Poll question: Is this forum counterproductive to the election of a Democratic President
Edited on Mon Mar-24-08 04:57 PM by andym
Given the voting on this poll
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=132&topic_id=5234704
which finds that this forum is considered a cesspool by 84% of it's members at the moment.

I think it would be interesting to see if this forum's own members believe that this forum as currently constituted is counterproductive to both the Democratic party and the goals of progressives, because it serves as an attack echo chamber for both campaigns, their supporters and other groups who have other goals.

So Is this forum counterproductive to the election of a Democratic President?

If it is counterproductive, should it be closed down or possibly changed in some more constructive way. Please offer suggestions.

5. Fortunately, the whole US is not aware of DU's existence right now.
We are not showing at our best.

6. I've been here for over 6 years, but I'm not foolish enough to believe
That we're influencing national elections.

I come here for the open exchange of ideas, the current news and events, and the camaraderie. For those of you who have only been here since the start of primary season, I promise, that's what DU is usually like...unlike the sewer it has become.

8. DU gets this way at times.
At least it's confined to GD-P, which you can "turn off".

10. There is a lot of information in this forum that supports and
reinforces the need to elect a Democratic forum. What is negative is the dumping on both candidates in ways that would bring smiles to the faces of Repugs. I think it has been particularly vicious with respect to Hillary.

11. It just a message board
It's like saying a sports-oriented board is hurting a particular team.

When all is said and done, it's merely a bunch of keyboard jockeys squabbling. Not much earth-shattering comes of it.

12. I think it has only minimal impact in the big scheme, but however small it may have some.
Edited on Mon Mar-24-08 06:36 PM by andym
I think it has only minimal impact in the big scheme, but some of the people on the board are activists who are working to influence voters off the internet. So this board may affect their enthusiasm down the line.

How many directly affected-- at most 100's? several thousand?

How many indirectly affected through those who read are contacted by those directly affected???
Will that make a major difference? Probably not, but will it have some effect? Perhaps a small one, but is even a small negative effect desirable?
