Nader Wins Endorsement From Reform Party
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20040512/ap_on_el_pr/nader&cid=694&ncid=2043

WASHINGTON - Independent presidential candidate Ralph Nader (news - web sites) has been endorsed by the national Reform Party, giving him ballot access in seven states, including Florida and Michigan, party leaders announced Wednesday.

Nader spokesman Kevin Zeese said Nader welcomes the support but plans to continue running as an independent. He said Nader would decide on a case-by-case basis whether to accept the ballot lines in each state.

"This shows that Nader can garner support from across the political spectrum, including conservatives who supported Bush in 2000," Zeese said. "The naysayers who said Nader could only get liberal votes are being proven wrong. Conservatives are upset with Bush and looking for an alternative."

Reform, Green, Independent... Nader is a political slut who will lie in any bed that will have him.

I hope the members of the third parties know just how deeply Ralph will respect them tomorrow.

7. According to their website....
Balancing the budget, campaign finance reform, overhaul the tax system, etc. They have ranged from libertarian-leaning to hard right over the years. Buchanan ran on their ticket last time, didn't he? so maybe an endorsement by them would pull some more conservatives that don't like Bush

15. Oh so they supported Buchannan in 2000? Then they are true to form
which is making sure a conservative is elected.

14. Wouldn't work. Egos would crowd out oxygen in room
There's no way you could get Ventura to play second-fiddle on ANY ticket-- the man's ego is way too huge. Also, Ventura and the MN Reform Party broke w/ the national Reform party in 2000 over Buchannan. The MN Reform party became the "Independence Party", and still has a couple elected officials in MN.

And of course, it would be technically impossible to have a Nader/Ventura ticket because there's no way you could get both men in the same room. The sheer size of their egos would crowd out all oxygen, and everybody would suffocate.

I saw a similar event happen when Sting played an indoor arena here in MN. It was a catastrophe in the making. Thankfully, he didn't sell out the venue, so there was still a little room left for air-- but not much.

5. Ohdearlord....

Ahhh, the Reform Party. We don't really have any principles. Don't ask us about our platform. Trust us. We know how to make life better.

Now swallow this pill and take deeeeeeeep, relaxing breaths.

23. I thought our principle was: It would be cool if Ross Perot were presidet
Oh well, ever since he decided not to run, so much for principles.

8. So who are they going to find to be Ralph's running mate?
This should be a real treat watching them try to match up someone like Neil Boortz with Ralph. Talk about odd couples.

12. I define Nader as a "political terrorist"....
he has no chance of winning but could possibly cost Kerry the nomination. If Dumbya gets back in again, things will continually get worse and it's Nader's hopes that people will be sooo fed up that they will vote for a 3rd party candidate. Just my opinion. NADER SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!

13. Will Nader Accept It?
Does he really want to be associated with the group that ran Buchanan for President? He must have SOME conscience.

17. So can I just say it: Nader is a egomanical idiot
Seriously - does he serve a purpose. And can Nader supporters vote for a man running on the same ticket that ran a neo-con like Pat Buchanon?

Anyone still supporting Nader is an idiot. Sorry, that's how I feel. I'm tired of folks telling me that they're voting their "conscious" because that's bullcrap. Vote your conscious for local and state party races where the outcome will NOT affect the free world.

We need John Kerry as our president and I support Kerry 110% not because he's "Anybody But Bush" but because he's a damn good candidate!

What does the Reform Party stand for? :wtf:

Can anyone find ANY common ground between these three Reform candidates?

This is insane.

20. From Buchanan to Nader?
What the hell is it with that party? They have no platform. It's sad, because I really liked Perot; he was a fiscal moderate and social liberal.

22. Was a member of the Reform Party once
back in the late 1990's I was fed up with the shenanigans going on with the Democratic Party here in Orange County, Florida. I couldn't even think of becoming a Republican and I knew that the head of the Reform Party was from Florida so I called the man. He was from a little town over near Tampa and he put me in touch with the "coordinators" from Orange County. These two people were absolutely clueless...everything was a conspiracy. I know a lot about marketing and PR and I offered to help do the newsletter and put notices in the paper. No, if we did that "people might show up that we don't want in the Reform Party". We never met at the same place twice (ala Arafat probably) for the same reason. We had no telephone lists, no funds nothing. Then comes the election of 2000. Say what you will about Pat Buchanan, but the man knows what he is doing. He read the rules of the Reform Party and there was nowhere in the rules that said you had to be a member for any length of time to be a delegate or to be a nominee. Anyway, the extreme right-wing of the GOP (Buchanan's supporters) took over the "Reform Party" here in Orange County. God bless them.

24. Good point. That's why Jesse "The Mouth" Ventura bolted
He took the Minnesota Reform Party and bolted from the national party, precisely because they were basically clueless as to go about doing anything. Buchannan taking over the national convention was the last straw, so they left the Reform Party and formed the "Independence Party" in MN.

There's still a few of their folk in the state leg, and they ran a popular ex-Democratic Congressman for governor last time (effectively killing off the Dems-- the Repub won with 42% of the vote).

However, a keen eye might note that both Buchannan and Nader share similar views on trade issues, especially regarding the WTO. This is an issue that both major parties are still avoiding like the plague, and it could come back to haunt us this fall.......
