Why did Obama ship Wright out of the country?
Shouldn't the man accused have a right to defend himself? Funny how he has disappeared. Do you think he'll be out of the country during the whole general election too?

14. If you make an accusation and want credibility it is common courtesy to provide a link
to back up your accusation. Otherwise you simply appear to be a troll or a freeper.

Even if he is out of the country (and there seems to be some doubt about that), so what? Lots of retirees take foreign holidays - my parents spend at least 2 months a year in Greece since they retired.

So it's kind of odd he is coincidentally vacationing early what with the media firestorm and all.

The last time I looked at a US map, Chicago was in Illinois and as far as I know, Illinois in still in the USA.

Are you missing something here? (Like a great deal of gray matter.)

Wright was in Chicago on Easter Sunday preaching his sermon. So...how the hell was he shipped out of the US?

Gawd...IMO, you are so pathetic...just like your queen candiate.

40. You know, Reverend Wright gave those sermons years ago.
Reverend Wright hasn't been an active or vocal part of Obama's campaign for president, as far as I can tell. Somebody went through videos of his old sermons - made years ago - and put together what looked like an "attack" on the U.S.

The man is retired. Nobody in the media cared about his sermons when he gave them back in 2003 and twenty years earlier. Let the man enjoy his retirement in peace.

51. He was on Obama's campaign committee until this exploded in Obama's face.
It looked to me like an attack on the US. The KKK thing, the US government giving black people AIDS, the GD America comment. Think what the Republican 527s will do with this again in October and November. The Republicans have been drooling over this; it dropped right in their laps for free. I have no doubt it will be resurrected right before the election.

61. It wasn't an attack on the U.S. It was a jeremiad.
I have no doubt that the sleazy Republicans will use it and anything else they can get their hands on or make up. There's no reason for us Democrats to help them.

I don't care what Obama's minister said decades ago during a sermon. It doesn't matter to me. Obama has said that he doesn't agree with the bits that so many folks dislike, and his voting record and positions support that. Obama is no radical.

This is just silly, and I'm disappointed to see so many Democrats going along with it.

19. Here's why....to try and keep the fire of this Obama lie .....
nytimes.com — From the New York Times, Obama disinvites Wright from participation in his coming-out for President, dated 3-6-07. From Wright's own mouth, Obama is quoted as saying the reason is concern about Wright's controversial sermons. He now must lie and deny ever hearing such, because staying in the church after hearing that sick trash is tacit approval.

“When his enemies find out that in 1984 I went to Tripoli” to visit Col. Muammar el-Qaddafi, Mr. Wright recalled, “with Farrakhan, a lot of his Jewish support will dry up quicker than a snowball in hell.” Mr. Wright added that his trip implied no endorsement of either Louis Farrakhan’s views or Qaddafi’s.

25. I hope he is far away...
from the maddening crowd. It is disgusting to watch what is being done to a decent human being. People are behaving like vultures, flying around him, waiting for the moment to swoop down and suck the life-blood right out of him. He is a man. A human being, who has led an extraordinary life. I wonder what kind of lives those who viciously attack him have led.

Born on September 22, 1941, in Philadelphia
Reverend Jeremiah A. Wright, Jr. is one of the most widely acclaimed black preachers in the United States. Combining social concern, spiritual growth, and political activism, Wright, who preaches in a black traditional style, brings a message of hope, redemption, and renewal. In 1972 he became pastor of a small United Church of Christ congregation in the inner city of Chicago. After over 30 years in the pulpit, his congregation has grown to 10,000 and is the largest United Church of Christ congregation in the United States.
In 1959 Wright enrolled at Virginia Union University, in Richmond, where he remained until 1961. That year he left school to join the military. He served in the Second Marine Division of the U.S. Marine Corps from 1961 to 1963, achieving the rank of private first class. In 1963 he graduated as valedictorian from the Great Lakes Naval Training Center, and from 1964 to 1967, he served as a cardio pulmonary technician at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Bethesda, Maryland.
During 1965 and 1966, he was awarded with three Presidential Commendations from President Lyndon B. Johnson.

After his discharge from the military, Wright continued his education. He enrolled at Howard University in Washington, D.C., in 1967, and was awarded a bachelor's degree in 1968 and a master's degree in 1969. He then entered the University of Chicago Divinity School, receiving a master of arts degree in 1975. He ended his formal education in 1990 when he earned a Doctor of Ministry degree in black sacred music from United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio.
----------------------------------------------
When Wright joined the staff of Trinity United Church of Christ as senior pastor, the inner city church boasted just 87 active members, most of whom came from the neighborhood surrounding the church. Wright embraced his new congregation took up the phrase coined by his predecessor Rev. Dr. Reuben Sheares, "Unashamedly Black and Unapologetically Christian." Within months the church had adopted the phrase as its motto and vision. Under Wright's leadership, fueled by his passion, and motivated by his preaching, the congregation began to grow by leaps and bounds. By 2004 there were over 10,000 members, with
people coming from across the metro area. The congregation, which proudly notes its diverse socio-economic mix, dedicated a new 2,700 worship center in 1997.
---------------------------------------------------------------
Wright has authored several books, including Africans Who Shaped Our Faith, Good News! Sermons of Hope for Today's Families, and What Makes You So Strong? Sermons of Joy and Strength from Jeremiah A. Wright, Jr. According to Cleophus J. LaRue in The Heart of Black Preaching, in his title sermon of What Makes You So Strong, Wright "demonstrates the power of the mighty sovereign at work in the lives of black people in twentieth century America. This sermon focuses on the root of black strength and survivability. Wright makes it clear throughout the sermon that the source of all strength, and especially black strength, is none other than the Spirit of God." As in his preaching, in his writing Wright focuses on the
dual issues of corporate concern and spiritual sustenance. His latest publication, What Can Happen When We Pray: A Daily Devotional, was published in 2002.
In recognition of his contributions, Wright has been awarded seven honorary doctoral degrees. He has also served on a number of boards and commissions, including serving on the board of trustees for Virginia Union University and Chicago Theological Seminary. He continues to be a highly sought after preacher,
teacher, and lecturer.

has something to do with it, too.

How would you like it if you'd been a respected minister for more than twenty years and then suddenly Fox News started playing the most extreme bits and pieces from sermons you gave over the decades, using them to attempt to destroy one of your parishioners run for president?

Do you think that you might move up your retirement by a couple of weeks and stop talking to the idiot press? I sure as hell would.

ETA: And my dad is a pastor, who often combines events with his vacation. They're going to Nashville tomorrow for a week, while there, he'll be preaching at another church and participating in a community service event for the homeless. I guess he can't do both - according to you. :eyes: Only shows how little you know about ministers.

Read it in some news report and I believe he was preaching at a church on Easter Sunday. I'll look for it.

Obama's Pastor To Speak At Tampa Church
The Associated Press

TAMPA | Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama’s pastor is expected to speak at a Tampa church.

Today’s event will be the first public appearance for the Rev. Jeremiah Wright since gaining notoriety for his incendiary racial and anti-American remarks from the pulpit.

Wright was the longtime pastor of the Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago until leaving last month. Some of his past sermons have received new scrutiny and criticism in recent weeks.

Wright, who will speak at a revival that will be held from 7 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday at the church, has visited this church in the past.

Reporters will be allowed inside the church for the speeches but video cameras and audio recording devices will not be allowed inside - at the request of Wright.

"...And I actually calmed the church to find out, first of all -- first of all, Reverend Wright is out of the country -- to find out, was that the actual date of the sermon? Was that actually right? Or did he make a mistake in terms of where he saw the ambassador, who actually was a Republican ambassador to Iraq under Ronald Reagan?..."

there is a typo - calmed should be called

I've seen other commenting on his being away as well...

66. Wright can't go on vacation?
The man can't talk.
The man can't think.
The man can't even vacation.

I don't see what Obama has to do with it.
