The Sheer Absurdity of the Tuzla Story
Edited on Tue Mar-25-08 11:08 AM by alcibiades_mystery
I've always said here that I like Hillary Clinton, and - while her supporters have not made me especially happy to vote for her given the present conflagration - I suspect I would be happy enough come November. That said, I'm astonished by the sheer absurdity of the Tuzla Story. I'll even accept the flailing defenses offered by some of her more demented devotees on these boards, that maybe she was talking about her visit to a M*A*S*H unit or something else; who even knows what the cognitive dissonance of their hero peddling obvious nonsense has these people grasping at now?

But, really now. This is Gary-Hart-style daring the media to take you down. We would have to believe that everybody just forgot about an assassination attempt on the wife and daughter of the President of the United States. Now, granted, our media is a laughable cacophony of hysterical hyperbole these days, but it really wasn't that much different in 1996. Are we to believe that if the First Lady and the President's own daughter were rushed from a tarmac under hostile fire, it wouldn't have been one of the BIGGEST FUCKING STORIES of 1996? That everybody with a functioning memory who was capable of attention wouldn't remember the reams of coverage on it? It's just ridiculous.

It's like claiming you won the Boston Marathon.

A bizarre story, and a perhaps historical misstep in Presidential politics.

1. Ridiculous is a good word for it.
There are so many things she could have said to exaggerate the danger without just flat-out lying, repeatedly.

2. It's pretty lame.
HRC appears to be another one of these politicians who doesn't know about the existence of things like back issues of newspapers and videotape.

...her issues with NAFTA are bigger.

Clinton catches flak for Obama by saying really stupid useless stuff knowing the media is distracted by bright and shinny ...anything

7. It's incredible and borders on sociopathic

some of the common features of descriptions of the behavior of sociopaths.

Glibness and Superficial Charm

Manipulative and Conning
They never recognize the rights of others and see their self-serving behaviors as permissible. They appear to be charming, yet are covertly hostile and domineering, seeing their victim as merely an instrument to be used. They may dominate and humiliate their victims.

Grandiose Sense of Self
Feels entitled to certain things as "their right."

Pathological Lying
Has no problem lying coolly and easily and it is almost impossible for them to be truthful on a consistent basis. Can create, and get caught up in, a complex belief about their own powers and abilities. Extremely convincing and even able to pass lie detector tests.

Lack of Remorse, Shame or Guilt
A deep seated rage, which is split off and repressed, is at their core. Does not see others around them as people, but only as targets and opportunities. Instead of friends, they have victims and accomplices who end up as victims. The end always justifies the means and they let nothing stand in their way.

Shallow Emotions
When they show what seems to be warmth, joy, love and compassion it is more feigned than experienced and serves an ulterior motive. Outraged by insignificant matters, yet remaining unmoved and cold by what would upset a normal person. Since they are not genuine, neither are their promises.

Incapacity for Love

Need for Stimulation
Living on the edge. Verbal outbursts and physical punishments are normal. Promiscuity and gambling are common.

Callousness/Lack of Empathy
Unable to empathize with the pain of their victims, having only contempt for others' feelings of distress and readily taking advantage of them.

Poor Behavioral Controls/Impulsive Nature
Rage and abuse, alternating with small expressions of love and approval produce an addictive cycle for abuser and abused, as well as creating hopelessness in the victim. Believe they are all-powerful, all-knowing, entitled to every wish, no sense of personal boundaries, no concern for their impact on others.

Early Behavior Problems/Juvenile Delinquency
Usually has a history of behavioral and academic difficulties, yet "gets by" by conning others. Problems in making and keeping friends; aberrant behaviors such as cruelty to people or animals, stealing, etc.

Irresponsibility/Unreliability
Not concerned about wrecking others' lives and dreams. Oblivious or indifferent to the devastation they cause. Does not accept blame themselves, but blames others, even for acts they obviously committed.

Promiscuous Sexual Behavior/Infidelity
Promiscuity, child sexual abuse, rape and sexual acting out of all sorts.

Lack of Realistic Life Plan/Parasitic Lifestyle
Tends to move around a lot or makes all encompassing promises for the future, poor work ethic but exploits others effectively.

Criminal or Entrepreneurial Versatility
Changes their image as needed to avoid prosecution. Changes life story readily.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Other Related Qualities:

Contemptuous of those who seek to understand them
Does not perceive that anything is wrong with them
Authoritarian
Secretive
Paranoid
Only rarely in difficulty with the law, but seeks out situations where their tyrannical behavior will be tolerated, condoned, or admired
Conventional appearance
Goal of enslavement of their victim(s)
Exercises despotic control over every aspect of the victim's life
Has an emotional need to justify their crimes and therefore needs their victim's affirmation (respect, gratitude and love)
Ultimate goal is the creation of a willing victim
Incapable of real human attachment to another
Unable to feel remorse or guilt
Extreme narcissism and grandiose
May state readily that their goal is to rule the world

(The above traits are based on the psychopathy checklists of H. Cleckley and R. Hare.)

NOTE: In the 1830's this disorder was called "moral insanity." By 1900 it was changed to "psychopathic personality." More recently it has been termed "antisocial personality disorder" in the DSM-III and DSM-IV. Some critics have complained that, in the attempt to rely only on 'objective' criteria, the DSM has broadened the concept to include too many individuals. The APD category includes people who commit illegal, immoral or self-serving acts for a variety of reasons and are not necessarily psychopaths.

12. She's a major con artist, constantly changing personas
Anybody who ever paid the slightest attention to her actions just since she became Senator would recognize this.

But she's good at lying and convincing people she's fabulous. She fooled me once in the year 2000 and I voted for her. I realized early on that I had fallen for her con game too.

Trouble is, now she's been caught. And she keeps on lying. Might her behavior have moved beyond the borderline into complete madness now? What other explanation could there be?

9. I was in the Tuzla valley in 1998 and 1999.
Edited on Tue Mar-25-08 10:59 AM by aquarius dawning
Violence in the area had been pretty much quashed by then but there wasn't a house to be found that wasn't filled with bullet holes. many of them appeared to have been mortared or shot with heavy direct fire weapons (tanks). It was pretty hellish to behold. During these years, we had our little air conflict with Kosovo and things became interesting but remained fairly low intensity. the dayton peace accords, (which is what we were there enforcing), had been drawn up in 1995. The level of violence up until that point was heavy and dramatic. That being said, I can't imagine that the threat level would have been reduced in 1996 by much at all. There were still land mines everywhere and snipers were in the area while I was there and there were more than a few attacks against various NATO installations. If it was widely known that Hillary Clinton and family were in the country, there damn sure would have been plenty of Serbs looking to kill her and I'm sure every precaution was taken to minimize her exposure to the threat of snipers. To be more specific, I am sure she would have been rushed from secure vehicle to secure building every time she got out of the vehicle. And, if she was outside of the basecamp, there is no doubt that she was surrounded by a hostile enemy that would have loved nothing more than to put a bullet in her. The same probably can't be said for Sinbad.

20. And you know what?
If she phrased it just like you did, probably nobody blinks at it and she gets whatever "credit" someone gets for going to a dangerous place.

But to embellish it repeatedly? And then lie about embellishing it, saying she 'mispoke' 4 friggin times?

Its not just dishonest, it is downright stupid, and brings up a severe question of her judgement (or lack thereof).

This incident really surprises me, though. What was the Hillary campaign thinking to allow her to make these statements?

People seem to forget so much of Hillary's past. Does anyone else remember when she destroyed the Death Star, when her plane flying from Sidney to Los Angeles crashed into a strange tropical island with mysterious powers, or when she got beat up by the Gooch on the playground?

15. I have been one Obama supporters that thinks this story is no big deal, but
posts like this make me think twice about that. I had never put the "dodging sniper fire" in the context of an assassination attempt, and how noteworthy that would be had it occurred.

Good Post!

Seriously, if it is too dangerous for the President he is going to keep his family the hell away from the area.

21. Politics of disinformation
First Lady flies into a war zone to comfort and boost the morale of US Troops there. Flies to a couple of different areas in this war zone and does what she set out to do, comfort and boost the morale of US Troops there. Only facts in the story that matter. Were there snipers in a war zone? Was she warned about possible sniper fire in a war zone? How many times did she land on the tarmac that day?

Not a major story, not even close. Grasping at straws by the Obama supporters. Say, has Senator Obama released those records of the cases he worked on for Tony Rezko yet?
