Clinton: Wright 'would not have been my pastor'

http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/pittsburghtrib/news/mostread/s_558930.html

Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, in a wide-ranging interview today with Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reporters and editors, said she would have left her church if her pastor made the sort of inflammatory remarks Sen. Barack Obama's former pastor made.

"He would not have been my pastor," Clinton said. "You don't choose your family, but you choose what church you want to attend."

Obama's lead in national polls has slipped since clips of the retired Rev. Jeremiah Wright began being played on national news programs. The uproar prompted Obama to give a wide-ranging speech on race in America a week ago. The Clinton campaign has refrained from getting involved in the controversy, but Clinton herself, responding to a question, denounced what she said was "hate speech."

"You know, I spoke out against Don Imus (who was fired from his radio and television shows after making racially insensitive remarks), saying that hate speech was unacceptable in any setting, and I believe that," Clinton said. "I just think you have to speak out against that. You certainly have to do that, if not explicitly, then implicitly by getting up and moving."

Clinton's 90-minute interview covered topics from pledged delegates to Iraq.

Among her statements this morning:

On saying last week that she landed under sniper fire during a trip to Bosnia in 1996, when she was first lady:

"I was sleep-deprived, and I misspoke."

160. forget the kitchen sink. she just gave permission to bring the
Fellowship out from under their rock. Consorting with Nazi sympathizers who want to impose theocracy onto the whole world is a bit more satanic than a man venting his anger over real injustices in the lives of a whole group of people.

She is such a fool, such a tool. What a smarmy, self-absorbed statement. She says that knowing she belongs to a cult so much worse than the Wright controvery that they don't even exist in the same dimensions. BRING IT ON, Hillary. You opend the door, you tool. Now live with it.

the rule of people who would segregate them in worship and every other place (look up the Fellowship) consort with people who affiliate with nazis and lie about things that truly
matter. My nephew was in Bosnia serving with the Danes, attached there by NATO. For her to
use his service in a lie, to LIE!!!!! about her danger when he TRULY WAS in danger offends
me at a level that is hard to explain. Her damned life was NEVER in danger, but she used
the shit my nephew was in for POLITICAL GAIN. Yeah, she's worthy of support. And don't even
try to belittle what I'm saying. My boy had sniper fire every day. It changed him forever.
She lied about her trip, deliberately and willfully, exploiting the troops for personal
gain. WHo does that remind you of?

Hillary's pastor was convicted of molesting a 7 year old girl

Is It Hillary's Turn to 'Denounce and Reject' a Problematic Pastor?

By Steven Reynolds, The All Spin Zone

We hear about Rev. Wright's racism 24/7, but there's nary a peep about Clinton's former pastor who's been convicted for sexual child abuse.

The blogs are talking about it, but the mainstream news is not. Still, this is interesting. Blogs such as AdvanceAmericablog, commondreams.org, the National Journal’s Hotline, and wakeupfromyourslumber.com are talking about the scandal that has enveloped the former Pastor of the Clintons, but it appears only the Utica, NY newspaper is covering the story. The rest of the mainstream media is silent. Perhaps the story isn’t divisive enough for the mainstream media to take notice. Of course, it is as unfair to blame Hillary Clinton for her former pastor’s abuses just as it is unfair to blame Barack Obama for Rev. Wright. Still, that means the mainstream media is far more enamored of condemning Obama for his Rev. Wright’s tirades about 9/11 and race than it is concerned with the plight of a seven year old girl abused by Hillary Clinton’s former pastor. ...

.....The irresponsibility here is on the media, who wish to blow out of proportion those issues which will inevitably divide Americans, by focusing on the behavior of Barack Obama’s former Pastor, while ignoring other transgressions by the pastors of Presidential candidates, even though Hillary Clinton’s former Pastor has actually been convicted of a crime.

The guy was the pastor of a small TOWN called Clinton. Not Hillary Clinton's pastor. Or Bill's. He was pastor of the small TOWN Clinton, NY 13323. 2 minutes of research using Google confirmed that.

I can't believe this is getting repeated, and the fact that it's been posted as a story on Alternet has just shown how crap internet journalism can be. Some people are just terminally stupid.

Did Hillary sit in the pews for 20+ years and watch this pastor sexually abuse children?
_________________________
Did Hillary call this FORMER pastor her mentor? Has she referred to him as being like "an uncle"? Did he become part of her campaign as a spiritual adviser?

Please also note that I have emphasized the word FORMER!

This line isn't going to go anywhere any more that the picture of Rev. Wright at the White House prayer breakfast did. Even MSNBC, aka Obama Central couldn't find a way to run with that one. They won't find any running room with this, either.

39. If Hillary Clinton is going to attack Obama for staying in a relationship with his church...
Is it fair game to ask if her 20+ year relationship with a misogynistic, cheating husband has affected her moral compass?

Are we or aren't we going to stay out of the church and bedroom?

His decision to stay in his church is rooted deeply in a long relationship - a lot of good, a few bad spots emerging.
Her decision to stay in her relationship is also rooted deeply in years of influence - good and bad.

Is she really going to go there??

It's not like they didn't know the comments he made. They were on the freaking Nixon tapes!

49. And Hillary and Bill paid tribute to him in 2007
Billy Graham Library Dedication

May 31, 2007
Charlotte, NC

Thank you. Thank you very much, distinguished platform guests, Mrs. Bush, Mrs. Graham. To Ruth, we’re thinking about you. Billy, I am very honored to be here, grateful to have been asked to a day I wouldn’t have missed for the world.

I was listening to Jimmy Carter talk and thought they just put the real odd couple together. They used to say George Bush and I were the odd couple, but here we may be the odd couple, two Southern Baptist Democrats who were both profoundly influenced by Billy Graham.

Billy Graham has known me since 1985, but I have known him for nearly 50 years. I am here because of both the public Billy Graham and the private Billy Graham. I am here because, beginning in 1989, I have seen firsthand his kindness when following a crusade he preached in Little Rock. He had known that my then pastor was dying of cancer and had only a couple of months to live. With all that he had to do, Billy Graham let me take him to my pastor’s home, who then weighed less than 90 pounds. I listened to them talk about life and afterlife. It was a conversation that will stay with me until the day I die. He didn’t have to do that. No one would have known if he hadn’t. Not a single soul would have thought a bit less of him. He did it because of who he is.

When I was in the White House, on many occasions Billy would come by to visit with Hillary and me, or call, or just write a letter when some foreign crisis or something was going on, and always it was incredibly kind.

Still, do you believe Hillary is unaware of the media's intentional distortion of Wright's sermon?

Well, if you think that the Clintons deserve criticism for saying kind words about Billy Graham, then I'm sure that you must have plenty of criticism for Barack Obama sticking with Pastor Wright for over 20 years.

of the media's obvious distortion of his sermon?

Why is she ignoring her own past with Wright and pretending to be ignorant of the facts, here and here?

The whole thing reminds me of what Kerry went through during the Summer of 2004.

It's time to call Obama out on his lies. There are tons of videos where Obama changes his story on Rezko, Goolsbee, Wright, and, Axelrod leaked the Wright photo to the NY Times as well as leaked the Hillary video. So, it's time for Hillary to step in and talk about the Wright issue among other things. Hillary was very HURT when she heard about Wright talking about her family and Lewinski in church and it's time for her to speak up.

No vote or other vote if Hillary is the Dem nominee. PERIOD.

116. Well Lady Clinton you do choose who to 'pray' with - every bastard conservative on capitol hill:
Hillary's Prayer: Hillary Clinton's Religion and Politics
For 15 years, Hillary Clinton has been part of a secretive religious group that seeks to bring Jesus back to Capitol Hill. Is she triangulating—or living her faith?" />

Kathryn Joyce and Jeff Sharlet" />
September 01" /> , 2007" />

It was an elegant example of the Clinton style, a rhetorical maneuver subtle, bold, and banal all at once. During a Democratic candidate forum in June, hosted by the liberal evangelical group Sojourners, Hillary Clinton fielded a softball query about Bill's infidelity: How had her faith gotten her through the Lewinsky scandal?

After a glancing shot at Republican "pharisees," Clinton explained that, of course, her "very serious" grounding in faith had helped her weather the affair. But she had also relied on the "extended faith family" that came to her aid, "people whom I knew who were literally praying for me in prayer chains, who were prayer warriors for me."

Such references to spiritual warfare—prayer as battle against Satan, evil, and sin—might seem like heavy evangelical rhetoric for the senator from New York, but they went over well with the Sojourners audience, as did her call to "inject faith into policy." It was language that recalled Clinton's Jesus moment a year earlier, when she'd summoned the Bible to decry a Republican anti-immigrant initiative that she said would "criminalize the good Samaritan...and even Jesus himself." Liberal Christians crowed ("Hillary Clinton Shows the Way Democrats Can Use the Bible," declared a blogger at TPMCafe) while conservative pundits cried foul, accusing Clinton of scoring points with a faith not really her own.

In fact, Clinton's God talk is more complicated—and more deeply rooted—than either fans or foes would have it, a revelation not just of her determination to out-Jesus the gop, but of the powerful religious strand in her own politics. Over the past year, we've interviewed dozens of Clinton's friends, mentors, and pastors about her faith, her politics, and how each shapes the other. And while media reports tend to characterize Clinton's subtle recalibration of tone and style as part of the Democrats' broader move to recapture the terrain of "moral values," those who know her say there's far more to it than that.

Through all of her years in Washington, Clinton has been an active participant in conservative Bible study and prayer circles that are part of a secretive Capitol Hill group known as the Fellowship. Her collaborations with right-wingers such as Senator Sam Brownback (R-Kan.) and former Senator Rick Santorum (R-Pa.) grow in part from that connection. "A lot of evangelicals would see that as just cynical exploitation," says the Reverend Rob Schenck, a former leader of the militant anti-abortion group Operation Rescue who now ministers to decision makers in Washington. "I don't....there is a real good that is infected in people when they are around Jesus talk, and open Bibles, and prayer."

Personally I'll take Reverend Wright over this bunch. People need to listen to more of this brilliant man -- not just the snippets that seem to play in an endless loop on TV.

123. This is getting really Old fast
As a person who has attended services at Trinity I believe I'm more than capable of answering alot of the accusations. First I know Jeremiah Wright and I know him to be man of integrity and love. Secondly, I know Barack and know him to be a man of integrity and honesty. The sermons heard on you tube did not happen while I attended. Also If you have listened to the whole entire sermon it makes more sense. Thirdly, what Hillary and others fail to realize is that for Barack Jeremiah is not just a Pastor but a Friend and "family" member. For 20 yrs this man became his surrogate family member if you will. Barack was born Bi racial. He never had any real contact with his other side until he was older. Trinity and Jeremiah offered him that connect to the other part of him. He could not disown him because of some ill stated words by his Pastor,Friend and "family". Lastly Trinity is not some Black Nationalist/Separatist Church as what is being portrayed in the media. Hell Whites even attend services sometime!!!

I would skip something in a speech that was not true. I am also of the impression that she wrote about this 'incident' in her book? Did she confuse two places or various stops? If so, I can understand, but if she's going to chalk this up to reading a poorly written speech, I can't swallow it, personally.

150. It's a desperation move (as usual, but as usual bound to backfire)
Obama has narrowed her PA lead to 10 points, and there appears to be no impact from the phony Wright controversy

Eighty-seven percent (87%) of Likely Democratic Primary voters in Pennsylvania have read, seen, or heard about comments made by Jeremiah Wright, Obama’s former Pastor. Nearly half, 47%, say it has no impact on their vote. Fifteen percent (15%) say Wright’s comments make them more likely to vote for Obama while 36% say the opposite.

Overall, 38% are somewhat or very concerned about Obama’s relationship with Wright. That figure includes 62% of Clinton supporters, 11% of Obama voters, and 36% of those who are undecided.

That's 72% who say it doesn't matter!

Obama: Palestinian leaders responsible for suffering

Published: 04/27/2007

Palestinians suffer because of their leadership, U.S. Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) said.

In the first debate Thursday night of the Democratic candidates for president, Obama was asked whether he stood by his remark earlier this year that nobody suffers more than the Palestinians.

"What I said is, nobody has suffered more than the Palestinian people from the failure of the Palestinian leadership to recognize Israel, to renounce violence and to get serious about negotiating peace and security for the region," Obama said on the MSNBC debate. "Israel has been one of our most important allies around the world, it's the only established democracy in the Middle East, it's the linchpin of much of our efforts in the Middle East, but the United States has to get engaged in this region and that's something this president has not done and that's something I intend to do."<<
