The "sniper" lie is the end of Hillary Clinton's hopes for the Presidency.
Her hopes of getting the superdelegates to support her as the "electable" candidate over Obama have been killed by the lie she told about how dangerous and powerful her experience in Bosnia was. Even if there hadn't already been a strong inclination against overturning the election results, no argument about electability is going to overcome the simple fact that Clinton lied, and she lied in a way that would make her dead meat against the Republicans in November.

They launched the Swift Boat campaign against Kerry without even having any evidence--imagine what they'll do to mock and smear Clinton, who incontrovertibly lied not once, not twice, but four times about facing sniper fire on a photo op. It will play into every stereotype in the Republican playbook about Democrats.

Every 527 group ad would juxtapose the video of her talking about running for the car with the video of her and the little girl, in the most sneering and disgusting terms you could possibly imagine, and worse. And above it all is going to be the campaign theme of, "if she was lying about this, what else is she lying about?" And, "how can we trust our troops to someone who only pretends to ever have been in danger?"

The sniper lie is the most perfect setup for every kind of smear the Republicans could ever ask for, and there's not a Democratic politician, official, or strategist in the country who doesn't know that.

5. It is all anybody is talking about around the water cooler today..... I'm in PA....
...

And the jokes are already starting....

"Boss... sorry I'm late for the meeting... I was dodging sniper fire in the parking lot."

"I would've finished that report earlier, but I had to dodge sniper fire."

It's now officially a joke that she won't escape from.... it is to her what "Invented the Internet" was to Al Gore.

9. Wonderful. And she did this to herself.
I made a sniper joke in the supermarket yesterday and everyone cracked up. It's over.

17. One of the things that hit me earlier:
There's people thinking you're scary or sleazy or untrustworthy or stupid or opportunistic or mean or a whole host of other things, but once people think you're a laughingstock.... that's the worst.

31. A very good point... this is far, far worse than "invented the internet."
For two reasons: Gore DIDN'T say he invented the internet... and he was rightly claiming credit for helping to build it.

11. She just couldn't keep it up for an entire national campaign
Once she failed to cruise to victory like she'd planned, this moment was inevitable. She simply has nothing but lies and smears. Someone was going to catch her out eventually.

14. Hillary tells another fib
"I was the first first lady taken into a war zone since Eleanor Roosevelt." Pat Nixon went to South Vietnam in 1969. A true trip to a war zone. Hillary visited Bosnia after the war ended.

It is more excusable since it was nearly 40 years ago and easily forgotten, but it does start to look like a pattern.

That she was the first prominent american to enter the area after the peace accords were signed. ignoring all of the dignitaries/troops, her husband visited two months earlier...unless the POTUS isn't 'prominent'

20. Hillary and BilloO...
I suppose Hillary and Bill O'Reilly both have 'combat' experience. Hillary was under sniper fire with nothing but a scarf to protect her and Bill O was a reporter with a pencil under fire down in Central America in the 80's.

BS on both counts.

I guess this is what happens when Murdoch supports a Dem, they morph into Bill O and any other number of liars at Faux News.

As I write this I am listening to MSNBC and chief Nazi Pat Buchanan is going off about Rev. Wright and comparing Obama to McGovern...

I voted for McGovern, I will vote for Obama, I am a liberal, and Hillary is no liberal, no progressive, not even a real Democrat.

Enough!

23. Didn't seem like they showed the beginning of the question asked her
of Bosnia by the reporter. I want to see the video of the reporter asking the question and her hem hawing for an answer. None of this cutting out parts.
They are really playing this down and WE can't let them get away with this one. She said it more than a couple times. Feb. 29th in TX.

Bill didn't think so. Two months earlier, Bill gave a speech to troops on the Tuzla tarmac.
