I came here back in 2001 a raw nerve ending after the Supreme Court imposed Bush victory and found solace, a place to argue and discuss the politics of the day, debate and dispute, but all with a certain respect, for the most part. We all suffered through the highs and lows of 2004, chose our candidate (mine is still obvious) and were severely disappointed at the outcome.

Then, 2006, the fury was on our side and we won!! Congress!

Since then I have felt a continuous downward spiral of accusation, recrimination and outright insult such that a mob now rules the roost and dictates the dialog on this site, insults demeans and abuses debate and happily watches the exit of those who DO NOT CONFORM TO THE "NORM". It is very difficult to voice any opinion that does not exalt Obama.

Clinton, I must say appears to be feeling the unrelenting pressure and seems exhausted by the steamroller of abuse. I guess she thought she could take it but I think she is wrong. This level of mean spiritedness from one's own party must be disheartening. This doesn't make me like Obama as a result although I'll vote for him over McCain but I sincerely think we are making a huge mistake. I hope he proves me wrong.

I supported Biden, he didn't stand a chance. After all, all he was was qualified to be president, but he wasn't "inspiring".

I was absolutely stunned at the level of vitriol against Clinton on this site that I decided to vote for her in the primary as compared to Obama, she had more knowledge of world politics. (My opinion, please! ). When I posted in her defense, the freaky people came out en masse and slapped me silly with insults. I was put on "ignore" for voicing my opinion sheesh!

I haven't seen them since they disrupted the 2004 primary. The only time they ever show up is when there's some moderate DLC talking points to distribute.

They're usually much nicer and peaceful, and I even see actual discussions in some of them (just steer clear of the Gun Forum and the Isreal/Palestine Forum...those really are crazy!).

GD-P jumped the shark sometime last fall, and I haven't taken it seriously since then (not that anyone could tell that I did take seriously before that, but I digress). DU is still great, but this isn't the place for too much actual discussion. It's more like a moshpit on ice with whiskey and pcp fueled nutbags...which is why I don't mind it... ;)

It's just that some of these people didn't know that Hillary was a leader of the DLC, is all. And she voted for the Iraq War.

I've thought of leaving too, but that's exactly what the Obama followers want you to do. If one
more person in opposition leaves, that makes it easier for them to drown out all voices of reason.

If you can't stand the venom, get up from the computer, turn it off and walk away for a while.
That's what I do. I sometimes absent myself for weeks at a time, come back, leave my comments and walk away
again.

It is overwhelmingly sad that DU is becoming the "Obama Is Lord and God" forum. Perhaps the moderators
should rename it as such in the name of truth in advertising. But until we can start another site for those
with opposing views, I am asking you not to give up the ship. Your voice is needed.

When the time comes I think the situation will be handled but right now all you can do is wait for Hillary to do her thing. Saw the subject and came over. It is not DU that has gone bad. The success of DU has brought out many that are not Dems at all. Remember even Rush reads us.

Hillary Clinton has no one to blame for this but herself.

Do we need to hear more about the Clinton's marital status? No, but pretty much everything else has been legitimate criticism of Clinton. If it's negative, there's a reason for that. You say, "It is very difficult to voice any opinion that does not exalt Obama." That is not true. You can say anything you want, but you may be expected to defend your position. Everyone here does that. Secondly, this wording contains a not-so-subtle invocation of the "Obama cult" smear that ruled GDP for weeks. We are not "cult members" who are "exalting" our charismatic leader.

That insult, lobbed incessantly at Obama supporters as Obama rose in the polls against Clinton, was part of the genesis of this rancor.
