OMG. Clinton Caught In ANOTHER Whopper... about...wait for it...
Edited on Wed Mar-26-08 03:40 PM by berni_mccoy
THE WHITEWATER WHOPPER

On Edit for Clarity: This is about a RECENT lie she told about Whitewater during an interview for her campaign. The author of the article is Carl Bernstein, who is also the author of the Clinton biography.

Anderson Cooper 360 Blog picks this one up. And Oh, is it a doosie!

http://ac360.blogs.cnn.com/2008/03/26/hillary-clinton-truth-or-consequences/#more-470

On her book tour, she was asked on National Public Radio about the re-emergence of dormant Whitewater questions that week, when the so-called “missing billing records” had been found. Hillary stated with unequivocal certainty that she had consistently made public all the relevant documents related to Whitewater, including “every document we had,” to the editors of the New York Times before the newspaper’s original Whitewater story ran during Bill Clinton’s 1992 presidential campaign.

Even her closest aides — as in the case of the Bosnian episode18 years later — could not imagine what possessed her to say such a thing. It was simply not true, as her lawyers and the editors of the Times (like CBS in the latest instance) recognized, leading to huge stories about her latest twisting of the facts. “Oh my God, we didn’t,” said Susan Thomasas, Hillary’s great friend, who was left to explain to the White House lawyers exactly how Hillary’s aides had carefully cherry-picked documents accessed for the Times in the presidential campaign. The White House was forced — once again — to acknowledge the first lady had been ‘mistaken;” her book tour was overwhelmed by the matter, and Times’ columnist Bill Safire that month coined the memorable characterization of Hillary Clinton as “a congenital liar.”

“Hillary values context; she does see the big picture. Hers, in fact, is not the mind of a conventional politician,” I wrote in A Woman In Charge. “But when it comes to herself, she sees with something less than candor and lucidity. She sees, like so many others, what she wants to see.”

The book concludes with this paragraph:

“As Hillary has continued to speak from the protective shell of her own making, and packaged herself for the widest possible consumption, she has misrepresented not just facts but often her essential self. Great politicians have always been marked by the consistency of their core beliefs, their strength of character in advocacy, and the self-knowledge that informs bold leadership. Almost always, Hillary has stood for good things. Yet there is a disconnect between her convictions and her words and actions. This is where Hillary disappoints. But the jury remains out. She still has time to prove her case, to effectuate those things that make her special, not fear them or camouflage them. We would all be the better for it, because what lies within may have the potential to change the world, if only a little.”

The jury — armed with definitive evidence like the CBS tape of Hillary Clinton’s Bosnian adventure — seems on the verge of returning a negative verdict on her candidacy.

Hedda Hopper *gasp*, the use of the word "whopper"-- it's all part of the game to both candidate's minions.

This isn't study hall -- no need to be juvenile in providing information.

How was I being hypocritical?

Or is that just a word that both candidate's minions throw out when they can't think of anything else to say?

Grow up.

To ignore one candidate's mistakes or spin them while wildly pointing at another's is just wrong.

I'm well aware of the prevalence of corruption. I think most Americans are aware of this, but they sure don't like candidates who are up to their eyeballs in it... and by that same token, they are aware that all politicians fudge the truth, but being told huge honking howlers is not quite the same thing.

55. Wow, you're not that bright, are you? The point went entirely over your head, didn't it?
Let me explain; The point was hyperbole, not a comparison of 'Hitler' to Republicans.

The level of corruption we've seen out of Republicans these last several years dwarfs that of Democrats by orders of magnitude.

So here, I'll try it again so maybe we can talk about how lame it is to equate Republican corruption to Democratic corruption without your getting hung up on the devices I use;

"Saying that 'both Democrats and Republicans are corrupt.', is like saying 'Both a cup of coffee and a nuclear detonation are both hot'."

Let's do another one; "Saying that 'both Democrats and Republicans are corrupt.', is like saying that 'There's little difference between last night's thunderstorm and hurricane Katrina because they're both storms."

Now, would you like to focus on the actual point, or is it more important to feign righteous indignation out of either a lack of comprehension, or a need to mischaracterize my use of a device in order to deflect from the actual point?

By all means, pretend the offense is typing the word "Hitler" so you don't have to discuss how ridiculous it is to make any kind of claim that Republican and Democratic corruption is in any way 'equivalent'.

At this point, I think you'll find me condescending and storm off in a huff. Isn't it nice of me to give you an excuse to ignore the subject?

;)

48. I think Americans should know if a politician is just telling us a...
lie or lies just so they can get in office, bush did the same shit in 2000, he lied and actually had allot of people believing him. We should focus on McCain but we shouldn't ignore a candidates lies, this is our childrens future here and we should pay attention to whats going on.

I do agree that the negative doesn't help democrats at all but in my opinion, that has been the Clinton strategy all along. She said it herself that she looked forward to this part of the campaign and they even named it some kitchen sink shit. I agree with you that politicians in general are corrupt and thats why I was behind Kucinich, I thought he was straightforward and putting the real issues we face, out in the open.

If Americans allow the media to distort or hide some of the bad things, we will make uninformed decisions and all lose.

59. Whopperism.....
When people tell outlandish, humurous and ridiculous "whoppers", these whoppers tend to start comming more and more frequently.

We have all known one or two. I think they know it's a "whopper" when they "whop" but telling things the way they wanted them to be, not the way they where, far outweighs the horrible embarrassment that may come later when the whopper is exposed, and sometimes a chance the original whopper might squeeze by "un-whopper" savy lemmings. Generally they start out as little "whopper jrs." and don't morph into hilarious major whoppers until the water has been tested with itsy-bitsy whoppers.

There is a difference between a "whopper" and a LIE. In general terms a LIE is told to cover deciet whereas a "whopper" can come from out of the clear blue with no rhyme or reason?

Thats just my take.
