Your thoughts: why would Wright issue have hurt HRC and barely dented Obama?
Edited on Wed Mar-26-08 06:36 PM by npincus
Per NBC/WSJ Hillary's negatives have gone way up, Obama's a wee bit... and the poll was taken before Hillary's Bosnia gaffe hit the fan.

At least until yesterday, HRC did not dive into the Wright affair publicly so not reflected in the poll. Curious why Hillary's negatives have spiked up suddenly. What do you think? (all snark aside)

1. I'm not sure we can link Hillary's increasing negatives to Wright. nt

18. The more you see her, the less you like her
That's been her problem from the beginning--low poll numbers and nowhere to go but down.

2. Why? Because she brought the story back up again when it was for intensive...
purposes dead... I hope it continues to bite her in the ass for weeks to come.

8. I think she only brought it up though yesterday...before that she didnt say anything about it.
Keep in mind, this is a poll. Which means what? Not much really, but its fun to look at i guess.

19. That may be true...but just before Wright, Ferraro opened her big race baiting mouth....
I think it doesn't take much to connect the dots for folks. Hillary coming out yesterday and trying to beat Obama over the head with Wright only confirms what I think most people thought she would do....

This illustrates what is bad about negative campaigning. It does not built a candidate up. It only decreases turnout for the opponent, and sometimes if it backfires, for everyone.

21. Its funny to think of ferraro's comments now...
ya, obama sure is lucky to be part of a community dealing with 400 years of black history in america.

6. Yes... that's probably most of it right there.
From what I remember, Bill ran a positive campaign... I think people just prefer those.

4. Snark aside, she just doesn't come off as credible and likable.
Without even talking about where she really is both or not, she doesn't go over.

I know that's a performance issue and not something more substantial but, there it is.

9. you obama folks cannot be that damn mislead can you? If I
had lied about my relations with my pastor and the anti white and anti american bile he spoke but the whoremedia did not find fault with your lie, but told folks over and over how great his race speech was then I would assume his numbers would maintain....and in those same glowing comments about obama there is always the negative comments about HRC, and thus her number would fall.....

The poll was conducted Monday and Tuesday this week by Hart-McInturff and surveyed 700 registered voters, which gives the poll a margin of error of +/- 3.7%. also they over sampled black voters and of course this would be of help to obama and less so for HRC.....

13. Your candidate had rhythm, but her freak got free.
Get used to it, people prefer two weeks of angry Jeremiah Wright over 4 years of Hillary.

14. to be honest wright's comment on that missing girl from alabama turned me off...
but im not going to blame obama for that. I would say wright should choose his words more carefully when it comes to missing dead people.

10. It has nothing to do with Wright.
People don't like her. I keep saying this over and over again. I think HRC has just been putting herself out there a lot lately, and the more people see her, the less they like her.

Obama dealt with the Wright thing quickly and head-on. HRC was employing the "kitchen sink" strategy at the same time as the Wright thing was happening, but that's a coincidence. To her credit, she didn't get involved in the Wright thing at all, at the time.

15. He demonstrated tremendous grace under pressure and looked / acted presidential,
while she was unable to make any sort of acknowledgement of the grand nature of his speech, afraid that it would detract from herself. It goes straight to one of the points Obama made about the fears people have that helping the less fortunate somehow takes away from "us". In fact, she not only stood silently by while he was under attack (so much for "we were friends before and we will be after", or even "my esteemed fellow Democrat"), but she then contributed to it. She had so many opportunities to make herself look good, but instead ended up showing how small-minded she is.

17. Because Obama handled it extremely well,
and Hillary's been wallowing around in the gutter? It's not like there hasn't been plenty of other nasty shit with respect to Hillary. Maybe people are just getting tired of her.

20. Time.
Whatever negative impact there was to Obama seems to have dissipated. Clinton started fiddling with it after that point, and is just now seeing some backlash.

I expect it'll dissipate, too.

22. It might be sniper fire story. She has an issue with truthiness, anyway, so that sort of story...
might hurt her particularly bad. People are not inclined to believe that she misspoke....during four different speeches.
