MSNBC: Clark Veep Top Choice
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/4565073/

Well Edwards' stock sure dropped this week....slipping from Number 1 to Number 3 behind (holding back the bile) McCain....

Still think Mark Warner should be in the top five contenders, but that's just me....

1. Clark's my favorite. I like Spitzer for AG too.
I wonder if Nader could be bought off with head of the SEC. lol Wall Street would HATE that.

3. Spitzer as AG - nice!
I haven't even been thinking about cabinet appointments yet, but I sure like the sound of that. Spitzer's been great for this state, trying to put some control on a corporate world that has gotten the go-ahead from the WH to do whatever the hell it pleases.....

22. I posted this recommendation months ago on DU.
I was thoroughly bashed for it by New Yorkers, who want him for governor, and others. When WILL people learn to listen to my wise counsel? B-)

2. Looks like the same McCain supporters innundating DU are innundating
msnbc.

And Clark is now exactly where he belongs -- at the top of an internet poll.

7. Nothing is wrong with Clark. He'd make a great VP.
I'm just commenting on the fact that McCain goes up to two in a week when there is clearly a huge internet effort to promote him. It's been really shameless here on DU.

Who are these people?

15. Give AP a pass on this one
He said that Clark would make a great VP, and he expressed no sour grapes about Clark rising over Edwards in that particular internet poll. McCain may be a principled Republican, but he is a Republican. Can't knock any DU'er for not being happy about a Republican being supported for VP on a Democratic ticket, no matter what your personal feelings about McCain may be.

I've always been astounded that Edwards led this poll, and I don't think I've really tried to support any argument about popularity based on this poll or on any internet polls. I don't even think I've made a single argument based on the CNN poll either.

I usually cite the primary results, their exit polls and the informed voter survey by the Stanford/UT professors as reliable indicators of popularity when I've wanted to make an argument about popularity, and I have no problem with Clark winning internet polls.

36. Whuzzamatter? Izzums tired of calling people whiners?
You know you want to.

Bludgeoning derision certainly is your pastime of choice, isn't it? If the only way you can voice an opinion is by slagging an opponent with playground taunts, then maybe you should go play with the conservatives; belittling is much more their style.

Funny how the CNN poll goes for Edwards, while the MUCH MORE CONSERVATIVE MSNBC/GE poll goes for Clark.

4. I like Clark
But as we have said before he would be at much greater value in another position. Although the common public might not understand that. I Don't think it would hurt his election possibilities one bit.

14. stuck in a box
are we so stuck in the box of Edwards and Clark that we can't get out???
shake it up!!!
my choice Congressman John Lewis - talk about inspirational! A true civil rights hero - experienced congressman, would bring diversity both racially and geographically and could show up those faux compassionate conservatives and faith based phonies for what they are.
I keep adding this to VP posts with very little feedback - would love some

28. I LOVE John Lewis.
Did you see him on C-SPAN'S students and leaders last year? He was AWESOME! What a story he had to tell. What a life he has lived! I so admire him. Great guy. If you're interested in seeing the C-SPAN show, they probably have in archived online. More than likely under "Students and Leaders" series.

Clark's still my guy though. I'm invested in him. Financially and EMOTIONALLY. :loveya:

16. Things I like / dislike about Clark
Love his anti-war position, especially a man with his credentials. Love his outspoken nature. Love his grass roots support.

In a nutshell I dislike his lack of domestic experience-and his pandering to this admin early on.

I have likes/dislikes about all of the candidates though, I could easilly live with and be excited about a Wes Clark for VP.

18. You could really really like Clark because
he does know about domestic issues as he taught economics at West Point and he is an intelligent fast learner. He didn't really pander to this administration...he was an independent but voted for Clinton twice and Gore once. He turned away from Republicans long ago...not just for this election. He is more harsh on Bush and his administration than anyone else and has the gravitas to do so.

So...if you agree to these points you can be 100% pro-Clark...you can really like him and be proud of your decision.

19. I think he's obviously driven and intellectual. And, thankfully he
abandon the R's.

As I said, I'd be happy with a Clark for VP. I think it would energize things again. However, I think any number of people would bring strenght to the Kerry ticket.

The most appealing thing about Clark is is anti-war position. It certainly doesn't hurt that he was a General either. ;)

Edited on Thu May-20-04 03:37 PM by Doosh
wow, you know Clark wins every poll at DU, but it doesn't represent the majority of Americans who want Edwards.

seems like somebody is grasping at straws.

when you see the headline of

"MSNBC: Clark Veep Top Choice"

you think maybe somebody from the kerry team leaked the word that clark was the VP choice, or that somebody like Zogby polled clark at #1, but that's no the case. It's just another attempt to prop up the empty uniform. this is extremely misleading.

21. Interesting trend line though, don't you think?
MSNBC is certainly a much broader cross section than DU, and Edwards had consistently dominated the polls there until recently. Several weeks back, outside of DU maybe, few mainstream pundits would have picked Clark to be a finalist for the CNN poll either. Clark is becoming better known and liked by a wider public.

Don't worry, I'm sure most polls will continue to show most people picking Edwards over Clark. But a Presidential nominee rarely feels bound to pick the most popular politician in his party for the VP slot. At this point, for what it's worth which isn't much, Edwards and Clark seem to be the two Democrats with the most appeal for that VP slot. That helps Clark, because Kerry already knew that Edwards could muster a following, the media made sure that would not be forgotten. Clark was viewed with considerably less respect by the media. Frequently they failed to even mention Clark when discussing the VP pick. Given the current situation in Iraq, more and more people in the press are having to acknowledge that Clark is a viable and attractive option for Kerry to also consider.

Edited on Thu May-20-04 04:56 PM by Tom Rinaldo
Showed even Edwards, the favorite at that point, with 5 to 1 against odds (Clark was 12 to 1), only a fool would make that bet (with real money that is lol). But for free what the heck. Sure, pick your horse, I'll take Clark, but you can't have the entire rest of the field.

32. It's funny that the anti-war
position only has a chance to be represented in the VP slot by a General! I think Clark's public positions may be too liberal for Kerry at this point (based on Kerry's latest positioning). But I'm just a hack, what do I know?

I'd sure love to hear "A New Standard of Leadership" again - it's pretty fitting to the current situation.
